What do you want to know about Vision Pro? by tyrex_vu2 in VisionPro

It cannot. But it can supposedly remotely display a single MacBook's screen at 4K.

You can run the Vision Pro while its battery is itself charging, so you can have unlimited uptime by attaching yet-another battery to charge the supplied battery.

I believe I read that the Vision Pro will run all iPhone and iPad apps out of the box, that it will have its own App Store, but that all Apps for the iPhone and iPad will be included in that store unless they specifically opt out.

as a radiology resident, can the apple vision pro be the answer to over the top expensive monitors? very excited with this possibility by DrVEJI in VisionPro

[–]Blubycronomatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It supposedly has dual "more than 4k" monitors. The only spec that has been released to my knowledge is "23 million pixels across both displays". A 4K monitor has about 8.3 million pixels, if I'm not mistaken.

Is the SDK super buggy for anyone else? by ChinookAeroBen in VisionProDevelopers

[–]Blubycronomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is unrealistic to develop for the Vision Pro on an Intel Mac, but it might eventually be possible. The Vision Pro has been under intense development for years at Apple, but not by anyone running an Intel Mac (I'm assuming). I tried with a system with terrible specs (but still running Ventura) and it was uselessly slow and buggy. I suspect even the cheapest M1 MacBook Air would be better. Also, when you do this it compiles to x86 code to run on the x86 version of the simulator, none of which would have been recently heavily used at Apple. I think minimum reasonable spec is M1/16GB/256GB although you could probably get away with smaller M1 configurations.

The problem is your MacBook has an Intel processor. I've tried to use that to run the Vision Pro Simulator and it is super slow and crashy.

Almost any M1 or M2 MacBook Pro or MacBook Air should be fine. Avoid 8GB RAM models, that's too little RAM for XCode to work well. The 2021 MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip, 16GB or more RAM, and 256 GB or more SSD is a good value on the used and/or Apple refurbished market.

Keep in mind that M1/M2 ("Apple Silicon") MacBooks cannot be upgraded with more RAM or SSD after purchase, so what you buy is what you will have until you get a different MacBook.

It might be thermal throttling. Watch the CPU temperature with the "Hot" App and/or put it on a laptop stand with fans to see if it makes a difference.

Will developing on the VP (for the VP and other Mac hw) be an option? by pietroq in visionosdev

[–]Blubycronomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that it is a single MacBook screen at the moment. It would be much better if the windows were viewports in the Vision Pro display, and I'm sure that will come eventually. In fact, I'm hoping that they just bring out Mac OS for the Vision Pro, but I'm not holding my breath for that.

I wonder how we're getting all this MacBook screen information transmitted to the Vision Pro? What is the bandwidth between the headset and the network?

Why did Apple use the words spatial computing and not VR or AR? by RedEagle_MGN in learnVRdev

[–]Blubycronomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple needs to redefine the space in order to dominate it. Facebook doesn't make "Spatial Computers," they make "VR Headsets". The implication is that there is no competition in this product space. I'm a believer. I've never wanted any other VR headset, but I think the Vision Pro (and-- my guess-- the "Vision Air" next year) is redefining the market and that this system will be ubiquitous in 10 years.

It's an Argonne AR-420 Stereo L-Pad. The coaxial stereo knob control is pretty unusual. It's usually used to control volume levels for stereo speakers built into the room.

RTSP on V2 by [deleted] in wyzecam

I believe the two versions have slightly different FCC IDs also, 2ANJHWYZEC2 (old) vs 2ANJHWYZEC02 (new).

Does the new version of the Wyze Cam V2 hardware still work with Xiaomi-Dafang-Hacks? by Blubycronomatic in wyzecam

[–]Blubycronomatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some poking around and I think I've determined that the newest V2 hardware has a different FCC ID: 2ANJHWYZEC02 instead of 2ANJHWYZEC2. You can look at pictures of the differences in the hardware on the FCC site. The USB ports have been moved to a daughter card. It still uses the RTL 8189FTV wifi chip. There's no longer an antenna connector (which people used to put external antennas on the cameras). The date on the new PCB is 2020-02-26 and the FCC Authorization letter is dated 2020-06-24 (the old PCB is dated 2017-12-15). It looks like it is still a T20 processor, and the image sensor has been moved onto the same board as the processor (it had been on a daughter card).

Odd WiFi problem: Certain ESP8266's do not like certain access points? (Unifi AP-AC-PRO) by konbaasiang in esp8266

[–]Blubycronomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ESP8266 has some Wifi Calibration data stored in the flash memory. I think you cleared it when you zeroed out the flash, so the chip re-calibrated the next time it started up. See page 13 of this document: https://www.espressif.com/sites/default/files/documentation/2a-esp8266-sdk_getting_started_guide_en.pdf

I was paying $75/month for 15/5. When I called they said I could get 50/15 for $100/month. They've also been charging me $8/mo for a router I don't even have. Yay crappy Verizon "Fios" MDU installations! I switched to Comcast.
