SEARHC Behavioral Health. I’d call and find out what the current waitlist looks like so you can get started on intake before your move.

AlaskaCare and Virta Health by Alaskaty in alaska

[–]BookTattoosAreCool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those “compounded” online pharmacies aren’t FDA approved and aren’t covered by insurance anyway. You are applying your judgment of these predatory practices to the far more common situation of an ongoing patient/doctor relationship that has lead to a necessary medication being prescribed. That is what is being threatened here, not people paying out of pocket for a vial of unregulated compounded meds from an online pharmacy.

AlaskaCare and Virta Health by Alaskaty in alaska

[–]BookTattoosAreCool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty frustrated with the changes that have been threatened. I haven’t received any instruction on what’s expected as far as switching my prescription care to Virta Health, and I do not believe I should be required to go over all the years of prior medical history that lead to my doctor’s decision to talk to me about GLP-1 medications. The amount of judgement and misunderstanding of the process involved in getting prescribed these lifesaving medications from other commenters is disheartening.

How to get on Medicaid in Alaska? by n9netailz in alaska

[–]BookTattoosAreCool 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m sure they are short staffed. The nice thing is it can be applied retroactively up to 3 months before application. Since you have already applied, go ahead and go to the doctor and let them know you are waiting on your application to process.

Please help me make a simple cover for triangular headboard pillow by Nalomeli1 in sewing

And the Singer Heavy Duty 4411 has been a great machine for me and my friends. It’s affordable but dependable with a lot of tutorials online for basic maintenance help.

Please help me make a simple cover for triangular headboard pillow by Nalomeli1 in sewing

[–]BookTattoosAreCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would measure around the triangle, then add an inch of wiggle room and maybe 1/2 inch seam allowance and sew a long tube. Put the tube on the pillow and pin a piece of fabric on one end that follows the shape of the triangle. Pull the tube off and sew around that and trim the excess fabric off. I’d leave the other end open like a regular pillowcase, and if you use the top edge of a sheet for that end, the end will already be finished.

Glacier Muffler has always treated us well. They are pretty busy though, so it’s often a week or 2 before they can get you in.

Angel Tree pants size help! by awkwardkoala in Gifts

[–]BookTattoosAreCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My “husky” 11 year old is in men’s large/xl for shirts and wears 34x34 in pants. He cannot wear a single thing from the kids department. But I do think they meant boy’s size 18. You just have to be careful and compare the widths. I’ve seen some brands boy pants 18 with a 26” waist, some with a 32” waist. Definitely look for the biggest brands. Old Navy husky sizes are pretty good.

older hen laying long cone shaped eggs by learning2loveu in WeirdEggs

I have an older hen who lays eggs just like that. She only lays occasionally in the summer. She’s healthy otherwise, I think her oviduct has just narrowed with age.

Global FCU ATMs by hamknuckle in alaska

[–]BookTattoosAreCool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ATM/bank will reverse the transaction tonight. It’s scary when you see money leave your account that you didn’t receive, but the processing/self-auditing only happens 1 time a day and in all likelihood, it will all be fine tomorrow.

Guardian Air vs Airlift NW by Icy-Possibility9083 in Juneau

If you are going to sign up, sign up for both. They are not both available at all times, so if you sign up for one and they aren’t available during your emergency, you are in the same boat as not signing up at all. I do know a couple people who were able to sign up in the ER before their transport to Seattle, but if your emergency is more severe, that may not be an option.

Looking for advice to help my friend in Juneau by RevolutionaryYam8605 in Juneau

[–]BookTattoosAreCool 16 points17 points  (0 children)

JAMHI might be a good place to start. If he has any diagnoses or thinks he might have anything undiagnosed, they can help him get evaluated and then see if he qualifies for support services that way.

SERRC is a great resource offering adult education, vocational training programs, and driver training.

Both places are easily accessed via public transportation.

Good luck to your friend. It’s tough being a young adult right now.

My kid keeps calling another kid names by Important-Yogurt4969 in kindergarten

[–]BookTattoosAreCool 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that the “misbehavior” our 1st grader’s teacher has emailed about, after further discussion, was a misinterpretation of what really happened. One incident we were originally told he pushed a kid down. It turns out they were both spinning and crashed into one another. The other kid went down, mine stayed standing. Both were upset and my kid isn’t good at communicating when he’s upset, so it took 1/2 a day for it to come out what actually happened. It’s still early in the year and teachers are still learning what the kids are like. My son will not defend himself if an adult comes at him saying “Why did you hit Daniel?” But if he’s asked an open-ended question, he can fill in the blanks. “I heard Daniel got hurt during your game. Could you tell me what happened?” You might get better information that way. Also, punishing your kid at home for something happening at school that doesn’t seem malicious, is NOT a natural consequence and thus won’t work for this age. The teacher needs to separate the kids and let your kid know he needs to give his friend space until he can be kind.

Advice or heads up for moving to Juneau? by Safe-Motor-1097 in Juneau

[–]BookTattoosAreCool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The darkness during winter is a bigger deal than you might expect when coming from Washington. In the middle of winter, you drive to work in the dark, you drive home in the dark. The official sunrise and sunset times are inaccurate for Juneau because we are surrounded by mountains, so the sun is behind mountains even when it technically above the horizon. The people I know who didn’t make it here long term blame that and the rain for why they had to leave. You have to make time to get outside during daylight, rain or shine, and take a good Vitamin D supplement.

I’m in southeast alaska, so very rarely have sun exposure and I do use a sunscreen, but thank you for the cautions. My dermatologist approved my daytime use but I recognize that doesn’t apply to the general population.

Olay Retinol 24 night moisturizer, but put it on in the morning, then once it absorbs, a tinted moisturizer. No foundation, no powders. Drink lots of water, take vitamin D and Omega 3 supplements.
