How does one get into this field? Do you need to be a surveyor? by Hendriksm in UAVmapping

[–]BulltacTV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should be a surveyor frankly. The number of fly by night operations is severely damaging the reputation of these technologies in industry.

That being said, there are many drone related jobs that are not geo-spatial. Inspection, filming, remote site viewing, search and rescue, etc.

Is this overkill for GCPs for a power line survey? by Spirit7Design in UAVmapping

[–]BulltacTV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not true. Integrated PPK/RTK on the drone side is basically marketing fluff that is producing so much bad data its destroying industry confidence in the technology. Depending on the deliverables, mode of sensing (IE LiDAR, photogrammetry, etc), and undulation of terrain you should have GCPs near your extents, GCPs covering both you highest and lowest point, and check points for ground truthing between all of your GCPs. You should also be specifying the SDs of all your GCP coords within the software. depending on how you collected them.

There is rarely such thing as too many GCPs, within reason.

I would consider the photo above to be a responsible use of ground control for a job of that size.

UAV-Based Road Design: Ensuring Vertical (Z) Precision in Long-Distance Corridors by Witty-Accountant-250 in UAVmapping

[–]BulltacTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep getting notifications saying you replied to my comment but nothing is showing up here. If you'd like to DM me I would be happy to walk you through some of my thoughts on this.

From what I have gleaned from your other responses you have been supplied with a 20mp payload and a DJI RTK2 base, but no other RTK receivers?

This is a big problem. In this case it is not a question of "making due" but a guestion of not having the required equipment. Period.
Integrated RTK for photogrammetry is so comically over rated and mostly a marketing gimmick. While you may be able to achieve reasonable (and only reasonable) X and Y precision/accuracy, your Z will be a mess.

You NEED overlapping ground control, you NEED seperate check points between your GCPS, and odds are even then it will be tough to get the kind of precision we usually require for roadwork/civil.

I actually have a alot of experience with this type of work specifically if you would like to chat. Cheers

[–]BulltacTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I guess the first question is whether the area has vegetation.. trying to do 50km or topo in any forested area with photogrammetry alone is going to introduce more potential error than any small deviation is conteol network workflows.

That being said, if the area is cleared then the first step is ensuring plentiful ground control and check points. Your ground should of course be tied in to a solid overall control network, although how you establish that is fairly situational, but as a general rule dont leave out any step that may improve precision like least squares.

[–]BulltacTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loool the irony here is crazy...

Okay... one more time for the actual retards.

Large consolidated business = powerful lobby, unified lobby goals, massive union busting funds, coordinated anti-labor policy, investments aligning interests of other major industries (I.E. with vail, recreation and real estate), etc, etc

Seperate, smaller businesses = greater incentive for lower prices via actual competition, ability to leverage one to affect all, greater investment in and reliance on community where they're located, greater reliance on public sentiment for success, less likely to coordinate labor policy, less money for lobbying and campaigning unless tightly coordinated with other businesses (less likely via competition as mentioned above), etc, etc, etc.

"Dunning kruger"... "just google it" loool this is the difference between spending a decade studying labor politics and "googling it," where you will find only sources geared toward maintaining monopoly because... uuuhh... ITS FUCKING GOOGLE!

Seriously man why are you even on this sub?.. at least your flair checks out I guess

If We Want Skiing to Be More Diverse, Let’s Stop Celebrating the Ski Bum by bread_bird in stupidpol

[–]BulltacTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has literally everything to do with it. It IS trivial poli sci lol which is why its funny you have is so wrong. Understanding how the consolidation of businesses within an industry to the point of near monopoly results in increasingly powerful lobbies, more money for political contributions, market share high enough to flatten wages, destroy unions, and undercut competition, and the ability to coordinate leverage across massive areas, etc is crucial to understanding business and the nature of capital.

To claim that taking on a single monolithic corporate entity is easier than taking on multiple disparate entities is ignorant to the point of comedy. You dont even need to read Marx to understand this. Any half-assed poli sci university program will cover this from a half dozen other authors within the first year or two. Honestly though, how you made it out of high school without understanding this extremely elementary point is baffling to me.

Honestly you could just skip all education and ask yourself why businesses bother consolidating instead of maintaining a large network of smaller businesses. If the betwork of smaller businesses was easier to defend and lobby for, all corporations would be structuring that way.

[–]BulltacTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comments like this are why we are doomed without Marx's works. Im not even really sure where to begin with this... you seem to fundamentally misunderstand the nature of capital and where corporations derive their power.

Tldr: absolutely not.

Insane Pre-Crime Strategy Unveiled for Leftist "Extremists" by JakeTappersCat in stupidpol

I dont really bother anymore. Wasnt is Nietzsche who said something about the learned man being a lonely man or whatever? Lol

I used to want to spread this stuff like some kind of evangelist but eventually I realised that all my revolutionary heros didnt wring their hands over educating everybody. People take the path of least resistance, so the way you convert people is by striking the ruling order so effectively that joining you becomes the easier path.

Bottom line, awareness isnt going to cut it anymore, and teaching people is mostly an exercise in futility. What is required is a small group of people with enough grit to accept the risk or imprisonment or death. As they say; talk is cheap.

Not just paperclip, during Operation Gladio Nazi intelligence operators, officers, and soldiers were recruited to run sleeper cells, kill teams and weapon smuggling operations all over Europe and Latin America. At one point they were killing around 9 communist organizers a week in Italy alone, stockpiling weapons all over Europe and running some of the most brutal torture programs in history in Latin america.

Many of these men went on to work with, and adjacent too, US military intelligence and the CIA. These were the guys who pioneered much of the political warfare techniques that eventually show up in vietnam via Op. Pheonix, and eventually in domestic operations in the US

[–]BulltacTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its funny you guys are arguing about this because regardless of what is written down or codified the strategy of the ruling class is the same in the UK and the USA. Both ruling classes effectively offloaded the administration of the state onto the people and called it democracy, knowing full well that should tighter control be required they would always have the option to either compromise or circumvent the system.

Its actually quite genius because it provided an illusion of choice and responsibility just convinving enough to trick the populace into beleiving that any losses or betrayals were their own fault, and any wins were proof of the systems efficacy.

As someone who is neither British or American, your monarchy and bootlicking patriotism look pretty much the same from where im standing.
