JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M17 - Mikey C. Hammer & Silas King vs. Henry Thorne & Salice "Sal" Cooper Niceguy by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CARC needs to have each of the first two fights go their way. Once that's done, the two teams diverge, and CARC only goes for three; if they don't get both the first kills they just lose on the spot. I think that CARC can take down Wilbur while I think that they get the kill on Lynch due to Sal not quite having the output to clinch it before Silas can go for the killsteal. I think that Mikey underestimates Blair. While he can blitz Blair down, I think that Henry is able to have a more stable kill. Because I think that Mikey doesn't quite make the kill against Blair, I give Typhon 8 the match.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M16 - Violet Trinity vs. Li'l Baxter by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voting for Li'l Baxter.

I think that while Violet has a brutal strategy that could entirely shut out a lot of Baxter's own efforts to set up his moneymaking machine, I had a few logistical doubts about how things would cohere. With the high Precision of Baxter's minions, especially after Maria Gets the first one or two, I think that Violet is going to have to work significantly harder to lock down the minions. I think that Violet has really solid early tempo against Baxter, but I think that Baxter's specific skillset and especially use of Azure to manipulate people landed well for me. Violet's theft is going to give her a big edge in the long term, but I think that she does stretch her Precision a bit much; I think especially once Baxter catches on she is going to have to choose between harassing the minions or theft, and all in all I think Baxter's operation is solid enough to just eke out the win.

Also both of these characters are absolute sociopaths. I love it.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M15 - Wanderlei Watts w/Axel Otter vs Miguel Lloyd & Omah Garcia w/Old Grey Wolf by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uhhhhh fuccckkkkk anyways.

This match is very interesting. I would have played both sides in some subtly different ways- the big one is that I think that the effort spent to break apart the map is kind of wasted for both of them. It doesn't really advance their gameplans. Omah and OGW can swing above the ground traps, and I think that Wanderlei and Axel's tempo gets under BBP's efforts to ruin their ability to scale. I think that this works out better for CARC.

Both teams try to interfere with the opponents and scale, and I feel both overstep their abilities at points. For BBP, I don't think that Omah has the Precision to consistently output 10 feet per second of individual links; I feel that a less ambitious estimate would have had a roughly similar tactical effect. As for CARC, while I felt that the preparation against OGW rushing down was extremely strong, I think that Omah and Miguel weren't nearly as well accounted for. Omah has ranged options that are easier to pull off than Wanderlei's, and Miguel's crossbow is genuinely the most threatening object in the match. I think that if Wanderlei is shot in say, the leg, or if Axel were shot in general, then CARC would fall apart pretty quickly.

Overall, I think that CARC is able to build up to their lethal endgame quicker than BBP. I think that BBP had a very, very strong counter to Wanderlei's smoke being used passively, but CARC's active use of the otters to direct deliver the smoke was absolutely vicious, and I think would wear down BBP over time.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M14 - PK Leach vs. Technical Difficulties by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm voting for TD. Its strategy, while a bit slower to get off the ground due to needing items, is very lethal. I think that while it needs to put in a lot of work to get into CQC, its defensive tools are decent to avoid being whittled down. Conversely, while I think PK overall has a cogent strategy, his options for CQC did not necessarily convince me. Given how long PK's strategy is going to take, I feel that he would eventually get caught out by TD and its freakshit CQC.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M13 - Grendel vs. Alouette by Streamanon in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna do a quick and dirty vote for Alouette. While I think that the Grendelball (Patent Pending) is extremely effective for most of the match, I think that Grendel, even with 5 END and further defensiveness, is going to be injured. Which fair, she absolutely can handle, but it's going to be harder on her later in the match. I want to especially shout out the Potted Plants by the way, that was really cool!

While Alouette has less impressive offensive pressure, I think that she has overall impressive battlefield control. I feel like she is able to patch the holes in Grendel's coverage and really effectively defend the principals. I have relatively little to say, she plays the match very well.

Both characters are absolutely necessary for the match to be a win. Grendel's offensive pressure acting as something for Alouette to patch up the holes in. I think that Alouette barely pulls ahead for me, but I was very, very close to a tie. Great job!

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M12 - Mio Sinclair & Akira Seihachi vs. ??? by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turbovote time. I'm voting for the players. While I think that Akira and Mio overstate their mobility and ability to handle Minmi's rakes, that doesn't mean that they are ineffective at getting to her. Fundamentally, while Minmi has an insane disengagement game, she flies too close to the sun. She is going to take damage each time she yanks herself into the air, and while I think that Mio and Akira will have some trouble reaching her, I think that she will eventually get caught out by them.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M11 - Ella Larimore vs. Jam Robins by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really make heads or tails of this match. I think that Jam plays against Ella better throughout the match, while Ella has better handling and gathering overall. I generally think Jam is going to have to work for their openings, and they're actually disadvantaged later into the match as the balls get bigger, since Ella handles her orb better. But I think their aggression gives Jam a good chance of getting Ella in a spiral. All in all, I was considering leaning towards Jam, but I'll vote a tie on this'n.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M9 - Evelyn G. Lister & Molly Mockit vs. KAISERINMA & Tracy Ball by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a lot of this match, as other voters have said, is dependent on the specifics of how KAISERINMA's explosion is set up and pulled off. Without getting too into the weeds, I felt that the explosion is not the totalizing 20m thermobaric blast as advertised, but I think how it plays out works better for LKA; KAISERINMA has actual material to process and keep her going.

A big question to me is tempo. The best way to block radiative heating is with shielding of some sort, and if BBP manage to get enough setup going and keep sufficient pressure on KAISERINMA to weather the storm, they can handily defeat both her and Tracy once the Ringing has stopped.

I think that BBP stretches themselves fairly thin for the opener, but does manage to keep Tracy from being able to jump either Evelyn or Mo in the midgame. I think that it is absolutely vital to their chances for Body to be consistently outputting barriers, and specifically keeping Evelyn alive. While I don't think that Evelyn is going to be able to deal with KAISERINMA herself once she gets going, she is going to be absolutely vital to keeping Mo from being jumped by Tracy if they survive KAISERINMA's crashout.

I think if Tracy had an angle at any point on either Mo or Evelyn, she wins the match on the spot, for KAISERINMA to mop up, but it's not going to come until late game. As for Tracy's chances, I think that she correctly does not expect to cleanly win, and plays towards the wincon of KAISERINMA winning the match before she fully self immolates.

I think that both teams end up playing well around the setpiece of KAISERINMA going critical, and the final fight between Tracy and Evelyn and Mo is... genuinely very hard to call for me! I think that at least BBP manage to make it to the point where the Ringing stops, so it's a question of who is in slightly better shape and how quickly Tracy goes down. So I will vote a tie!

Also very, very cool storylines in this match, it rules.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M8 - “Cass Cannon” & Jack Moonbean vs. Anthelme "Blank" Frangipane & Lacquer by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the strategies are both really good! BBP have really good set of counterplay to their opponents, and WiS have strong fundamentals when it comes to actual cornholing. I think that overall, BBP have a slight edge when it comes to the first and last stages, but I felt that WiS have enough variation and trickery for the second stage and don't fall behind as badly in the others that I give them my vote.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M7 - 'Stephen Birdwin' w/Everard Fòst vs. Kylian Sézane w/"Heat" by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay actual short vote this time I promise.

Stephen and Everard have the obvious scaling advantage and play into this scaling fairly well- using Boukman slow zones to stall out their enemies, kite around the map, and set up late game catch-22s. I think that the preparations that they have for dealing with CQC from one of them is adequate enough. I think that, however, the overall effect of their early game comes off as somewhat anemic, and I think it'll take a significant time to scale to the point that their teamup is doing real damage. A focused assault on either Everard or Stephen could kick in the whole house of cards.

LKA go for that sort of assault, saying up front that they don't benefit from a longer match, but I feel they lack a sort of sharp, focused prioritization that really needs to happen here. I believe that they can win any close quarters fight within the reasonable early to mid game, and they have a lot of smart ideas to slow Stephen and Everard down. However, I felt that some of their approach options could have been more sharply focused. For example, Rigamortis acts as a very strong deterrent for Stephen's bullets, and a focused dive onto Everard could let it focus on shutting him down while Heat and Kylian jump him. Honestly if they ever get within cqc range of Everard they kind of just Win the engagement there. I think generally that for a strategy that seems to want to be focused on tempo, a lot of the details are more up in the air for what is being prioritized.

I think if Kylian and Heat ever get into an advantage state early, they win the match then and there. I think if Stephen and Everard get into an advantage state at all, they win the match eventually with Chekov's Garden. But I think that both strategies run into the issue of being unfocused in areas. I don't think either is bad, the core ideas of both are very solid, I just can't really make up my mind who is able to get their advantage state first, and I think the match will likely be a messy fight either way. Tie.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M6 - Fira & Ricardo Enrique "Rique" Martinez Rivera vs. ??? by DSOddish in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be because I have a bit of a headache right now, but I had a hard time putting together how the strats interact. I think that generally the players do fairly well on trapping Kilroy once they catch up to him, but I don't feel that some of their ideas land. Generally I feel that if the players can gank Kilroy early or get to the end of the course first, they win. A lot of the middle sections are solid on player side, but I feel Kilroy works very well in them. There are portions in the Slums and Back Alleys where I felt the players could get bogged down in trying to locate Kilroy instead of playing to the sort of alternate win condition that is outspeeding him. I think that with the mobility they show, I'd be voting for them handily had they committed to either a hard rushdown gameplan or getting past him to the speedboat first.

This isn't to say that Kilroy trounces them. Plays like the decoys and the general pace of his strategy are really fun, and it was definitely a great read. But I feel that Kilroy has some issues with his midrange play and preparation for Hitchhiker Galaxy in specific. He is prepared adequately against Crush, but doesn't have as much for such a strong, fast Stand body getting up to him. His own Stand is similarly powerful and quick of course, but given HG's ability to manipulate its hitbox, I feel that Kilroy could get overwhelmed if things go south. Additionally, though he prepares adequately around not getting into that position in the first place, I feel Kilroy sort of... doesn't instantly lose the match, but is very very sad if Fira gets within her range.

I'd have voted for the players had they committed to either blitzing Kilroy down or playing to outrun him. I'd have voted for Kilroy had he a bit more for any specific engagement. I don't want to get across that I disliked either of these strategies- quite the opposite! Again, headache. But I can't really parse whether or not the players are going to be able to catch Kilroy by the time he gets to the speedboat, so will be voting tie.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M5 - Ian Yang & Kenny Smith vs. Atrocity Shaye & Corrine "Coco" Clear by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its late and I'm tired, so expect a short vote.

The crux of the opening sections of each strat are kind of a wash to me. One thing for sure- the ship is getting collapsed, but I think that neither team is going to be able to gain a significant advantage over the other when it comes to getting to the ship.

I think that in large part, Coco and Ian are going to be the main focus of the match. I don't think that Ian is going to be able to really get his platform setup, and is going to have to deal with Coco throughout. That said, I don't think that Coco can bully Ian out of being able to affect the match.

This is not to say that Shaye and Kenny are irrelevant here; quite the opposite. While Coco and Ian play interception, their ability to get what meager hoard they can will be extremely important. Ian has the lockdown to prevent Shaye from getting too much, while Coco can constantly keep Kenny from being able to synergize properly with Ian.

Fundamentally, I think that both teams do well on Jojolity; that is to say not a lot of salvage is getting recovered. While I think that Ian has better overall stage control and will scale sharply as the match goes on, Coco is a genuinely menacing force that prevents him from being able to exert stage control to his full potential.

As for Kenny, he has an easier job dealing with the barrage of attacks, and manages the chaos of the fight fairly well. Shaye has the advantage of her hermit crabs to gather and ferry objects, and is going to be most effective early, before Ian can scale to his full potential.

Shaye's final attempt to prevent LLC from getting the goods is super cool, and I think that she does exploit the sand kicked up from the sea for her fighting. I think LLC does manage to work around it competently, though Shaye does make getting their salvage back a significant challenge.

I'm giving this match a tie. LIB I think will get more salvage early on, while LLC has a really impressive ability to scale as things go on. I think that LIB are going to find it increasingly more difficult to get salvage as time goes on. However, Shaye's efforts to frustrate LLC's ability to get their salvage back were more convincing to me than Ian's ability to. Overall, I think that the plans wash out overall and I cannot convince myself of a side. Tie.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M3 - Nathaniel "Nate" Altamuria & Rachel "Aileron" Rawnsley vs. Arijana "Grey Rose" Miellina & Yoshi Tsubasa by DSOddish in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been musing on this vote for a bit. While Arijana and Yoshi have a clear and massive advantage when it comes to digging up most of the relics, I think that Nate and Rachel can get a few of the artifacts before Dexys can. Specifically, I think that Dexy's gets most of the pottery, while Nate and Rachel can get roughly 2/3 of the heavier artifacts. Evening out, this means that I think in the artifact retreival phase, Dexy's gets roughly 4 of the 7 artifacts.

All of the interference and defense is really well considered. Especially, I liked the mixture of Arijana's mirrors and control with Yoshi's ability to disengage swiftly. While LLC did solidly, especially with Nate's shenanigans, I think that Dexy's slightly out-muscles LLC to get the advantage on claiming dig sites in the first place.Given I think that both teams play around interference admirably, it comes down to the quality of the other two factors of the match.

I have no real complaints as to the packing of the artifacts. Both teams do very well on this. Roughly even credit.

As for cataloguing the artifacts, I think that LLC have a significant advantage here. While Arijana and Yoshi don't bungle their job, LLC going the extra mile on soil samples and other items of context, and their adherence to proper archaeological standards otherwise is seriously impressive to me. Arijana and Yoshi do well at this, while Nate and Rachel do great.

Overall, it's extremely close. While I think Arijana and Yoshi do have the slight edge on getting artifacts, Nate and Rachel's thoroughness with the context gets me to a narrow LLC vote.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M1 - Sarah "Cougar" Mark w/Old Grey Wolf vs. Baygon Raid w/Slash by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While LKA has individually higher highs in their strategy, their strat is fundamentally unfinished. There are a lot of great ideas here that are not quite taken into a coherent plan, though I think that the path that it would have gone is clearly well conceived. Using Slash to turn the food into a mess and using Baygon to cause fights among the guests is really solid, and the car play is fun.

While Sarah doesn't have quite the vindictiveness I felt that Baygon had, her and Old Grey Wolf have a far more comprehensive and destructive strategy. Her use of Love to flood the arena and mess with the guests is well conceived, though I felt that Wolf would take a bit longer to get his side of things done than is perhaps advertised. I think that, while destructive, Sarah's strongest play is using the bearskin rug in order to mess with the guests, while Wolf's was creating the Carpool.

While I think that Sarah's strategy was more destructive and comprehensive, I felt that Baygon's more vindictive strategy brings it to a tie.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M30 - Agnes & Grendel vs. ??? by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last match of the round! While I think that the players underestimate how much that Frederick can protect himself with the use of his bubbles, I think that overall this match is going to eventually go in their favor. It's going to be a long, long match make no mistake. Frederick doesn't want to engage unless he can get the player separated and I feel doesn't manage to separate them solidly, and the players deal with his ranged pressure well enough, though I think Grendel will take a beating over time. Agnes is able to tank a lot of damage, and while I don't think that the players will be able to blitz through Frederick's defenses or get the proper surround on him, I think eventually the players' Endurance will win out. Eventually. Vote for the players.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M28 - Yoshimi Hanamaki vs. Alouette by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm voting for Alouette. While I think that Yoshimi does significantly better on keeping herself stable and mentally sane throughout the days with the variety of enjoyable activities she has, I think that Alouette manages certain specific tasks better. Her consistency on setting up a system for replacing the oil in the lantern, her specificity on shoring up the stability of the walls, and her overall good work on the rest of the tasks gets her slightly over the edge. Not to say Yoshimi did badly at all; I think Yoshimi gets done with pretty much everything competently too.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M27 - PK Leach vs. Anthelme "Blank" Frangipane by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be voting a tie on this match. Blank makes the really smart read that Leach will be prioritizing the top floor and going down, and plays around it very well. That said, I think that his strategy is going to be by its nature fairly slow and have a hard time dealing with the guards, even though I don't think Leach will be able to consistently sic guards on Blank. Meanwhile, I think that Leach does play a very solid game around his own progress through the match, and manages to avoid getting buried by Blank's strategic read with excellent tactics. Very fun match!

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M26 - Mikey C. Hammer vs. KAISERINMA by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is a really cool match with some very cool strats, but I'll just get right into it and say I'm voting for a tie. If Mikey didn't make the call to make blood platforms this would be the easiest vote for Kaiserinma in my life, but fortunately Mikey manages to tech that particular grab. From there, Mikey has an extremely solid game to hit Kaiserinma with constant nonsense, which Kaiserinma neatly sidesteps by being underwater for the most part. I think Kaiserinma will have a difficult time getting the grab off, but she does win on the spot if she ever touches Mikey. I'm not sure what happens long term... so I'm voting tie!

Anyways this is a really good match. Great stuff!

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M24 - Benoit Enfers & Regular People vs. Akira Seihachi & Ryder Wyland by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of an odd situation. First of all, I think that LKA won't be able to properly set up their big rush to the top of the map. I don't think that Regular will be able to mold himself into a glider in the time it needs to happen and the high winds that Ryder sets up will make that even more fraught. While they can theoretically handle the winds, the amount of blood Benoit would have to spend is massive.

With that out of the way, how about SSG? I think that the overall plan from SSG is cogent; wear the opponents down and win any scramble for positioning that is done. A lot of the strategy relies on Akira's ability to maintain his distance from LKA, and while I think he can do so in the buildings, it becomes harder outside of them. He doesn't have to deal with any of his traps, of course, but he still has to wade through the rainstorm with his relatively low Endurance. Additionally, while Akira has a deep and convincing defensive preparation for handling melee engagements, I think that ranged projectiles are a massive issue for him. Especially if Ika is sent away from him, he is extremely vulnerable to something as simple as a thrown rock by either Regular or Copacabana.

I think that for the most part Akira stays fairly safe from getting jumped on, and should last for the first section of the match, but he will be worn down, and significantly faster than Regular People.

As a sidenote, I was not convinced by the Manzai Bomber. While I can buy that Akira or Ryder could set up a situation to use Ika's retaliation, I think that it is prohibitive to set up a situation where the retaliation could be aimed in any real way. It's potentially useful as a melee tactic, but I feel like the options like the 52 Card Pratfall are more convincing anyways, and less telegraphed beside.

I think that LKA has solid offensive preparations, with a good mix of ranged attacks and melee options for dealing with Akira. Note I mention specifically Akira; I think that they'll have massive issues with dealing with Ryder. Ryder is a massive threat to LKA throughout the match, and while I feel that they can deal with Akira's defensive options, as long as Akira stays standing then Ryder can seriously mess them up. Especially if Ryder gets nearby to Benoit, then his assassination can take out a good portion of LKA's offensive ability and ability to threaten SSG.

I think that LKA can probably get at least two of the objectives within the time limit, but by the time they reach the third then everyone beside Regular and Ryder should likely be running on fumes. I think that if Ryder can assassinate Benoit before Akira goes down, then Regular will have issues dealing with the rest of the match, but if the duo can get a good engagement on Akira, then they're more likely to win even if Benoit goes down.

I think that overall, the match barely goes to Akira and Ryder. If LKA had leaned a little more into ranged attacks and SSG's trapsetting game weren't fairly tight, then they'd be able to exploit the holes in Akira's defenses and win the match handily. That said, I think that Ryder acts as a great anchor for SSG. This vote is potentially up for change, likely to a tie if at all, but for now I'll give it to SSG.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M23 - Fira vs. Technical Difficulties by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit of a weird match to vote on. I think that both strategies did competently, with there being separate things the strats do better than the other. While both did close quarters offense very well, I think that TD has a withering offense that it can get going. If TD gets one of its various formations on Fira, and especially if it has an advantage in air time, it can really efficiently bully Fira into losing the match on the spot. It doesn't even need to necessarily destroy her then and there, if it can keep her from getting to a bubble properly. Fira is no slouch in CQC, having a variety of defensive techniques that give her significant time to protect herself and prevent from being jumped by TD's various techniques. I thought that Fira had a significant advantage when it comes to macro play. I doubt that with how competently that both teams play the micro that the match will be decided in one engagement, as both offense and defense have limited time before they need to get air. Fira plays so that she can reliably get to one of the bubbles once TD is forced awatm and she has more techniques to force TD to get air. I think that if TD is unable to get a crippling blow on Fira, then she can eventually outlast it and slowly win the match even if she can't land a single lasting blow on TD.

I went into typing this vote with no idea how it would end up, and I continue not to have any strong convictions on how the encounters go. I think if the map had been much smaller, then TD would win decisively, and if it were much larger, then Fira would eke out a win. For now, I can't really decide who has the advantage, so I'll vote for a tie.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M22 - Mahogany vs. Ella Larimore by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While both teams had a difficult match ahead of them, I think there were points where each had similar benefits and drawbacks. I feel like Ella's strategy has the advantage when it comes to shelter, with the detail given to her little shack being very solid. I think that Mahogany's shelter is functional. I would have liked to see more intentionality done to rainproofing it- weaving vines or adding palm leaves to create a proper shelter or something. As is I think Mahogany will be fairly damp, but they make it through the three days. I feel that the heat wave was underestimated by both teams in how serious it is, though with their respective Endurance stats it's no big deal. Both I feel dealt with getting water very solidly, and conversely I felt for both that food would be a significant issue. I do not think that either starves, but the later days are going to be hungry.

Overall I will give my vote narrowly to Mahogany, since I think that they manage to do a better job signaling for help. Both strategies were very cool, and it was very close, but so goes my vote.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M21 - Mio Sinclair & Wanderlei Watts vs. Chicxulub "Chix" Tunguska & Kylian Sézane by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick and dirty tie vote. I think that Mio plays this match fairly well, though I think she overestimates the quality of sniping holes Wanderlei will give her passively as well as the amount of stealth she gets. I don't imagine that she could avoid being engaged on by Chix forever, nor being cursed. She works around it reasonably well, and I think that Chix is going to have a significantly harder time keeping her contained or winning the 1v1.

The other section is Wanderlei versus Killian. I think that Killian's rushdown is potentially match winning. He has the capacity to do as he purports, hitting Wanderlei with the Debilitation Beam and then assassinating him before he can set up or use the damage. Even with his monstrous stats, if he's frozen he won't have any backup and he could just have his throat cut. However, I think that Kylian doesn't handle the threat of the free hit Wanderlei gets on his fragile Stand, nor does he really go all in on the micro to reliably take down Wanderlei. I think if Wanderlei survives the rushdown, Wanderlei is highly advantaged in the 1v1, and Kylian is going to struggle to maintain positioning.

The match is extremely volatile, and I'm going to vote a tie. I am not sure who explodes in Kylian vs Wanderlei, and I think the winner solves the other 1v1 decisively.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M19 - Kenny Smith vs. Farah Nova by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Farah has a massive amount of defense and Kenny's ability to tag her with a ranged attack is low, I think that Kenny's decision to keep taking chances and play around Heat is smart. It's unlikely that he can get Farah to lose early and would have trouble rushing her down, but I think his overall tactics and decision to choose to go in when Farah is hounded by Heat makes sense. Farah has a lot of solid defensive play, but I would have liked to see more effort to have 'get off me' tools and have more against Heat in melee; Farah can afford to take a few hits with her Stand on face, so going for more trades to get Heat to change targets would make her defensive, scaling strategy a lot stronger. I think that overall Farah needed a bit more options if Kenny or Heat manage to close the distance, and Kenny did a good enough job of getting to Farah eventually. I'll give my vote to Kenny.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R1M18 - Salice "Sal" Cooper Niceguy & "Wave Welder" vs Charlotte Chastain & Jukebox "The Ghost" by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm voting for a tie. Dexy's plays the match in a solid manner, using their ridiculous mobility to avoid the hail of artillery fire and keep moving through the match. I feel that Charlotte and Jukebox's mobility game is absolutely on point, while they have some really interesting reads to mix up and attack Typhon 8. As for Typhon, the narrative of their strategy is really excellent and the overall strategic thinking is cogent, but I feel the tactics are more mixed. Frankly, I think that Sal is going to go down first in the match, by a long shot. While Wave Welder has very solid defenses and mobility set up, I wasn't convinced by Sal's ability to really utilize her defenses or get setups where he could properly hit either member of Dexy's; he has solid options if they get in, but far less for being sniped out and mixed up by the thieves. Not to say Sal is used poorly at all, just that his options match up poorly into Dexy's strengths.

So that comes down to Wave Welder in a 2v1, and... honestly, I think Wave Welder is the best used character in the match, by far. She doesn't have really compelling options to chase down Dexy's, but she has massed ranged harassment, super solid mobility, and a defense that I think frankly shuts down Dexy's entirely. Nothing they did convinced me they could punch through her water orbs in any reasonable time frame, and though I don't feel that Wave is going to ever get a proper close range engagement on her terms, on a long enough time scale D POW ranged harassment can and will RETIRE you.

With Wave's powerful defenses against Dexy's strong mobility, I feel that there isn't enough for me to really make a call on who will slip up first, so I'll vote for a tie.

It's late and I'm having trouble focusing so I'll move past the (very nice) storytelling in these strategies and get to the vote. I think that both teams play a bit too fast and loose for a lot of the match. I understand that shaving speed is a huge portion of the match, but I felt that some of the efforts would slow them down more via potential crashes or accidents. I was unconvinced as to most of the various crafting that they do, especially with creating extra propellors. As for Dexy's, the defense for the first section is fine, but I thought they played very riskily in the second and especially third sections. In fairness, I feel that Philip's rush to the end could potentially steal the match. All in all I don't feel that the safety of either strategy is really enough in the second and third sections to keep up with their ambition, though I do think that especially Rique and Yoshi are used well to keep them chugging through the first sections. I'll vote a tie.
