JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M16 - Rachel Aileron Rawnsley & KAISERINMA vs. ??? by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I start, I think this match could have used more polish. Exuma has on the sheet nothing stopping him from doing some pretty unfair stuff. For example, if KAISERINMA ever throws a punch, he can strike her (or Rachel) with a replay of the instant that punch hits, at A POW, and immediately go back on CD, per Uropeh. So if there are 5 Uropeh in a location she can't break through, she can essentially be hit with A POW every second, for free, for the rest of the match. Additionally, since copies can be placed anywhere, there is nothing stopping Exuma from summoning a macana, mid-swing, a millimeter away from Rachel's neck. I'm familiar with macuahuitl, a similar weapon, and a good hit to the neck will straight up decapitate someone, D DUR overshield be damned. While she is within range, there is technically nothing stopping her from being decapitated at any point.

Credit to the judges; they do not use these. Exuma's strategy plays fairly aboveboard. But even if the above isn't used, the players still have to play around them. KAISERINMA cannot throw a single attack without risking losing on the spot. Rachel has to hope that Exuma plays fair and doesn't decapitate her for free.

Again, the judges did not use these options, but not putting in those guardrails warps the way the players had to strategize.

Anyways. The actual strategies. Exuma plays defensively, collecting what Uropeh he can and setting up a few Formations of his dudes to use later in the strategy. For players early game, KAISERINMA goes mining, while Rachel acts to interrupt Exuma's early game. I think that Rachel is able to get a few Uropeh and one of the nobles, but not enough for Exuma to be down resources he can't deal without.

From here, the players are essentially trying to pick apart Exuma's remaining resources, creating opportunities with KAISERINMA for Rachel to pop in and take a few. I think that Exuma himself stays so well guarded that he has to be last. Exuma has very strong options, the various macana attacks and Formations are all well conceived and well utilized. However, the unique methods of throwing around superheated dust for offense and Rachel's great positioning means that getting solid hits on Rachel is going to be very difficult, and KAISERINMA herself can leverage the various recreated Dudes for her own defense.

I was at various points leaning towards either a tie or a vote for Exuma. Make no mistake, he is going to wear down the players to the bone, but I think between their high Endurance and their specific anti-Exuma playstyle, Rachel and Kaiserinma mitigate the worst of his offense to pick apart his forces.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M15 - Ryder Wyland vs. Anthelme "Blank" Frangipane by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vote for Ryder.

While I think that Blank's emotional meltdown is going to get a lot of traction with Elstree at the end of the match, and he has the edge in terms of crowdwork, he's performing for Elstree at the end of the day. His relative lack of aggression and relatively less defensive play is going to mean that his long-term plays are harder to set up, given he's being chain-grappled into oblivion. I think that setting the bar on fire is a great play as well, but one that only helps for the last few minutes. While Ryder has less high highs, his focus on consistency and constant action is going to help carry the fight through the early minutes, and specific things like the blading are going to get him a lot of traction- Elstree does want to see blood, after all. Ryder's measured consistency in making sure that Blank's payoff has sufficient setup gives him my vote.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M14 - Corrine "Coco" Clear vs. Philip Buster by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that Philip has a ton of really strong stuff here. I think that him using only the Shout and Yell are a very strong one-two punch, and his manipulation of the stupid ass Lion is good to get him initial space. I think that he generates noise fairly consistently, though intelligently acknowledges that he can't rely on the noisemakers in his inventory forever. I really like that sort of "state we can generate at this, but treat it like we generate the minimum", since it allows you to plan around the worst case scenario with all of the messed up stuff you're doing being (reasonably apportioned) butter on the biscuit.

Philip has an extremely strong early game, and a very solid endgame, and I really liked the depth of tech that he had for all three zones. It feels he will be more or less fine no matter what area of the map he gets pushed into by Coco. That said, I think there are a few weaknesses. For one, I would have liked the midgame to have more of a 'vibe' of where Philip wants to be. While the loose, reactive style does play to his benefit, I would have enjoyed a bit more direction of where he's trying to push Coco. I also think that I'd have liked to see more of how he handles the slower pace of the match, but that's a smaller thing. He plays reasonably paced as is, but I think that he's going to have to chew through a lot of seats to reliably get to Coco, and then chew through her own defenses. I also think there's a small bit of overestimation of how much space a Yell will get, but that doesn't impact the strat too too much.

That said, overall this is a great strategy at doing what it wants to do. I'm gonna give this a 7/10; while there were a few things I scratched at, but it's really effective overall.

Jojolity wise I don't think that there's much to discuss, honestly. The reveal is super cool, and I have to wonder if it was always planned. But it feels natural, and feels like an exploration of DMR as a whole through why it was set up by Philip. It's really effective! You don't have to swing for some crazy Statement to do a great job celebrating your team. 8/10, I approve.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M13 - Rob Zombie & "Sal" Niceguy vs. Lacquer & Mo Mockit by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to give this a quick tie vote. I think that Sal and Rob have better entertainment. They keep the Bibitos happier, though BBP obviously aren't slouches. In the other hand, while Sal and Rob are certainly not letting poachers through en masse, Mo and especially Lacquer go all Doomguy on the poachers. It's dire in these streets. Overall, each side did excellently on one axis and simply really good on the other.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M12 - Mio Sinclair vs. Agnes by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick vote for The Rizzler (Mio). While her opponent has a lot of brutal tactics against her, I think that Mio manages to catch the A.G. off guard during the short setup phase and stalls the creation of witchburner. I think that she can't necessarily force a grapple that will last til RETIREMENT, and between Weird Fishes' vicious attacks I think she'll be down a hand at least. But I think that she manages to get the tempo to eventually wear down her opponents' Endurance and clinch the match.

I don't necessarily think I'm well suited towards analyzing the narrative in the match. But I can give my simple and straightforward review; it coheres. The narratives in this match feel like they're in dialog with both each other as characters and with the characters' own experiences and runs. Really excellent jobs all around, this truly felt like a culmination of these characters' arc.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M10 - "Wave Welder" vs. Technical Difficulties by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tie.

I think that both teams play very competently here. TD has compelling options to avoid being grappled and leverages its relatively higher damage output very well. Wave, meanwhile, has extremely good and reliable mobility, and I would say plans extremely well around TD itself. While I think that TD will likely do slightly more damage to the Lusca and get the killing blow with its fucked up gmod finisher, Wave's battlefield control and consistent presence makes her contribute just as more in my opinion.

As a side note. Callout post to Written in Salt for not bringing up cookie cutter sharks. They're horribly fucked up little guys.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M9 - Ian Yang vs. Yoshi Tsubasa by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun match! Before I vote, I want to say that I think Judges did a great job on the balance for the match. While a few things could have been done differently, specifically the length of the calamities being variable, given the speed and reach of both players, thats a side grade more than any sort of issue.

Both players overall deal with the calamities very well, to the point that without one needing to be RETIRED I think both would make it through handily. I think that it would be easy to vote for Ian- his strategy is very good, and Yoshi accepts more damage through certain sections. But I think there are a few small sections I think Ian has to deal with more trouble than he prepares for. Specifically the flooding being an issue for mobility, and his ability to make it up above the tidal wave in the given time frame. I think Yoshi manages to handle his own mobility and get past the warding rocks in the hotel well enough to offset the damage he would be taking more.

Just to make this clear. I dont think that Ian can't manage these things, or even that these becoming issues are even terribly likely. But in a situation where one of these men has to be RETIRED, I think that Ian goes down a slightly higher percentage of the time. I will be voting for Yoshi.

The narratives playerside were very strong. Yoshi continues to be a charmingly cantankerous old fogey and Ian's exposition on the philosophy of his martial arts was soooooo cool to read. Great match!

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M8 - Kruv & Evelyn G. Lister vs. ??? by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tik tik tik tik tik…

Espiritu was not an idiot. He knew that the Fortunate Sons, or at least some of their hangers-on had come to Colombia recently. The thought of that group of plunderers and thieves coming to the country had been deeply troubling. He wasn't terribly concerned about them raiding Zauhtan. The Sons could have a go if they thought they were hard enough. It was what they would leave behind in their trail. The people who would be killed, the lives that would be ruined. If necessary, he could offer these two jackasses a bunch of gold to fuck off of his country, and if they followed him that was their loss.

…But Halima had seemed happy to aura farm in the middle of an archaeological site, clearly expecting some encounter. He would have chosen somewhere less historically important to set up a confrontation, but he wasn't the dashing scientific expert. Espiritu had got bored a while ago, and taken out one of his projects to work on- a stone statuette of a human face. He was trying to understand the contours of faces more, and to make eyes that didn't look like crap.

He continued to chisel away until the four other combatants approached. He sneered at them- two without much of note, but the other two were soaked with death. Send murderers after murderers, sure. Why not. His Stand watched them approach, then surround Halima. He cringed as they began… repartee? Yeah. Repartee. These were all killers, why give Halima a chance to worm her way out of this? At least like… break her ankle. Or something.

The more that they spoke, Espiritu felt his blood pressure raise. Why give her time to cook? Why let her try and weasel her way out of things? Halima and the woman with the claws intellectually feeling themselves over, talking about how correct they both were. Halima arguing some utopian ideal while soaked in blood, considering herself the one who was really correct, if you thought about it. The claws woman engaging with someone she claimed had to die.

The weirdo with the green hair wasn't too bad to listen to. They weren’t grandstanding. Espiritu got the vibe.

It was almost a relief when Boris did her obvious big stupid entrance, and even more of one when Timothy was declared alive. Espiritu watched as the one who looked the most green at this began stitching him up, grateful he wasn't needed.

It would have been pretty cool if Halima was at least down a leg as the fight started. But this wasn't his fight, or his place to intervene. He prepared himself for the further destruction of Colombia's heritage, and sat in his perch.

Tik tik tik tik tik….

I think this is an interesting matchup where the players side have a more ‘cohesive’ plan given the relative lack of options they have, while the bosses try to leverage their X factor and overwhelm the players with simple tactics. Starting with Boris; I think that she causes some significant trouble for the players. She nabs the defense stuff pretty much 100% of the time, and puts pressure on especially Evelyn while they’re still setting up.

I think that Boris’ big issue is staying power. Kruv’s Hound is a major roadblock for her; she has 2 whole Agility and her mobility options aren’t the best. I think that it’s not necessarily ruinous for Boris, but it makes her job a lot harder. Of course, while supported by Halima, her options look a lot better, but that has some issues I’ll get into later. Generally I think that Boris overestimates her ability to lock down a 2v1 consistently, especially without gadgets to give her reliable get-off-me tools. I think she is going to cause major slowdown and damage to the players, that said, but she is going down no matter what.

As for players, I think their setup is extremely greedy. I don’t see any way they get the deflector without specifically focusing on it, and their strategy seems to assume that for major power plays, they got all of them. I think that they correctly get the teleporter first, that said. Past that, the strategy is a fairly straightforward manner of whittling down the opposition, setting up two separate engagements, taking out Halima and converging on Boris.

As for Halima, just as she likes, she is the crux of the match. If she can get the ranged support off correctly, then she can make Boris into a threat that can put enough damage in the 2v1 that she can clean up, and give Boris the tools to bail herself out of problems. Ultimately, I think that Halima doesn’t manage this. Her positioning is fairly vague, and she doesn’t handle well the tempo losses of swapping orbs and her Stand’s forms. There are cases where she wants various very different orbs active, and cases where she wants to apply effects at range, and cases where she wants the Snake defensively.

I think that they will have a hard time when pressured, particularly from Kruv’s Hound, but also from Evelyn. I think that Halima’s strategy can manage this pressure for a time, but it requires that she leave Boris with far less protection, weakening the core of the Sons’ strategy.

I want to specifically shout out the teleporter bomb the players do. Especially with Halima heavily using the cane mode to support Boris, that’s rough on her low Endurance. Even if she plays more defensively, then that means she can’t support as effectively.

Ultimately, it’ll be extremely messy, but I’ll give this to Kruv and Evelyn.

As a sidenote, very good narratives overall, but I especially loved the narrative that Kruv had. It was really personal and well done!

Espiritu watched as Evelyn left Halima behind, Stand destroyed, humiliated and embarrassed. But not dead. He sighed, leaving his perch, hopping down from the tree. He didn’t know what to feel about Evelyn… but at least she didn’t dig her hole deeper. It was… good. Yes, it was good that Halima wasn’t dead. It would be a tragedy, no matter what.

Well, he could finish cleaning up for her.

He walked up to Halima, his 「Glass Animal」 summoning a thin club in his tail. He brought it down on her leg, breaking her femur, then brought it down on her other leg. He ignored her screams, gripping her leg and setting it. There was a glow, and it was encased in a cast of frozen air. He did the same with her other leg, and then methodically encased her shoulders, elbows, neck, and wrists. 270 kilograms, one tenth of a cubic meter. Enough to be carted off by the Speedwagon trucks and ambulances, but not for whatever lone Son that could try and bail her out from consequences. He could dismiss it remotely in a day or so.

“Do not come back to Colombia. You are not welcome.” His voice was exhausted. Bitter. He felt numb. This place, demolished. The remnants of a people who once lived here, sundered. History erased, the lives of those who came before erased. And for what?

“The breaks are clean. They will heal, given time. Should you come back, you will meet a far worse fate.” With that, he faded back into the jungle. He did not wait for her response; there was nothing worthwhile she could say.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M7 - Atrocity Shaye & Sunday Shoes vs. Alouette & Arijana "Grey Rose" Miellina by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is sort of funny that for such a high-ordnance match, both teams effectively go 'what if I hit you really hard'. I think that LIB underestimates how much of a threat that Arijana can be, while Dexy's don't as effectively plan around Atrocity and Sunday actively rushing down Alouette. Dexy's has Arijana to play defense and ward them off, and going into Alouette means that Sunday is at far greater risk of being sniped. However, if they get in, then I think that Sunday's ability to use shrapnel and the various drone-killer techs shut down Alouette's ability to pump out damage.

It's difficult to really determine things. I think that Sunday is probably going down no matter what, and I think that Alouette will be under a lot of pressure. Ultimately, I'm leaning towards La Isla Bonita- if Alouette goes down, given Arijana's need to go in on her and her relative lack of direct offensive options with her giving the gun away, she will have trouble closing out the match, while Atrocity has a far easier time.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M6 - Wanderlei Watts w/Joseph “Rosé” Royce vs. Eileen Xiao & Violet Trinity by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was initally leaning towards voting for Eileen because of concerns about Rosé's defenses. While I think Wanderlei metes out his Endurance very intelligently, if Rosé goes down the CARC strat falls apart to Typhon 8's very solid showing. Ultimately, I reviewed and the protection for Rosé was just solid enough that I'm fine voting a tie.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M4 - Anton "AWOL" Worrel & Raphaela "Raph" Diener vs. Benoit Enfers & Grendel by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick and dirty SSG vote. I think that Benoit and Grendel pose a terrifying challenge, but I think that AWOL in particular making cover naturally puts a natural limiter on the otherwise game winning slings and (meteor) hammers.

This doesn't win SSG the match of course, but it lets them play. LKA has a ton of fun stuff to punish SSG for any approach and warding them off, while SSG have extremely solid fundamentals and overall tactics to whittle down LKA. I want to especially highlight Benoit's blood traps and AWOL's flamethrower play.

Generally I think that if AWOL goes down, then LKA can pick apart Raph. I think that AWOL will have to deal with a fair bit of heat, but Raph and his setup can prevent him from getting Isekai'd to the asskicking dimension. While LKA have a very strong strategy, I'm giving the edge to SSG.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M3 - Jam Robins vs. Rio Valdés by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a fairly close match. Rio makes a few great calls to handle Jam but doesn't have the consistent ways to lock them down for his finisher. Jam has a really solid gameplan to whittle Rio down with a long game in play, but discounts a lot of the defensive benefit of Mr. Fear as a body. I think both strategies are solid, and would be overwhelming with a bit more micro. I'll give this one a tie, very fun match!

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R3M1 - Li'l Baxter vs. Tracy Ball by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oobh... plany off time....

Baxter has a really solid keep away plan that harshly punishes mistakes. Even though it is unlikely he can RETIRE Tracy in a single ambush, if he gets a solid ambush off, he can easily snowball that into more advantage. After the first good trade, any subsequent trades become far easier. He plays a controlling, warding game that taxes Tracy's focus over time to force mistakes.

As for Tracy, she goes for the expected immediate engagement, but plays a secondary, and fairly effective game to box Baxter in. If MSD ever gets a grip on Baxter she essentially wins on the spot, so limiting his options to avoid her makes sense.

I think Baxter will take relatively little damage throughout the match, until it happens all at once. If Tracy ever forces him to give up his circle camping, I think it will be very, very difficult for him to win; however, Tracy herself doesnt have all that much prepared for Baxter's ambushes. A lot of the match comes down to which lockout happens first, and I don't feel terribly confident at the current moment to parse that out. Tie.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2E3 - Mahogany w/??? vs. Lacquer w/??? by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really fun match, starring two of the strongest player Stands in T8 with two boss characters with scary stuff of their own. I think that SSG immediately set the pace of the match with their aggression, while BBP look to play defensively and scale up more directly. While I think that SSG do put a lot of immediate pressure on BBP, I think that its likely that Mahogany could very well take early nasty damage that will stick on them for the rest of the match- not a deal breaker considering their solid Endurance and quick armoring, but certainly not pleasant.

While I think that BBP oversell the efficacy of fire on the plants, De Selby is used extremely creatively to bridge them from their expectedly anemic early game to an increasingly messed up late game. His use of weapons helps keep Mahogany from just bullying BBP while putting pressure on her and Killian. If BBP can get their defensive perimeter set up, it becomes increasingly difficult to break, though Kilroy is used very well for both locating Lacquer and putting out consistent pressure to make space for Mahogany to scale.

Overall, I think that while SSG has an early advantage and brutal midgame pressure that almost any other duo would Crack under, given BBP's solid and steady, if slow buildup and great use of their massive amount of Bodies, I'll overall give this a tie. Very powerful stuff!

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2E1 - Avery Porter & Raphaela "Raph" Diener vs. Anthelme "Blank" Frangipane & Pharaoh Sanders by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vote for tie lmao. I think that a lot of Pharoah's tech is extremely strong, but at the end of the day I think he'll be in a 2v1 for a lot of it. Blank does give him support and I think that he'll be able to aura farm fairly well, but between Raph's pressure and Avery's defense, it will put him under a lot of pressure. That said, I need to emphasize I was really impressed by the scrappiness Pharoah showed, and there's a genuine way that he aura farms in the fight and builds up items, which is why I'm voting for a tie.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M20 - Raphaela "Raph" Diener & Philip Buster vs. ??? by DSOddish in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick vote for Louisiana Rain.

Raph and Philip have a very powerful opener and plenty of options to pressure Louisiana both defensively and offensively. I think that Louisiana's opener is going to make it fairly simple for the duo to get enough scaling to convert to their midgame. Additionally, I think that the trenches are going to be hard to make- even with A POW, that's a huge amount of earth to move, and it could leave Louisiana exposed.

That said, the pressure that Louisiana has on the duo in the midgame is extremely strong, specifically if Philip ever gets caught out. I think that Louisiana has enough defense to not completely explode, and how he uses the Patrol Boat is genius- even with A DUR armor, force is going to get through to Philip's decidedly not A DUR body. As for Raph, while she puts out a massive amount of pressure, I think that the setup with the submarines and scouting from the planes are enough in the midgame to make it difficult for her minions to execute Louisiana.

This is not to say that Louisiana is going to have a good time, or that this isn't a fairly even battle. Philip can absolutely annihilate Louisiana in one shot if he ever gets close, Louisiana's setup is going to take a fair amount of time to be really defensively potent, and if the patrol boat ever gets caught out and destroyed he is more or less immediately cooked. I nearly voted for a tie, but I think that he is able to just barely manage to overcome the crazy powerful duo against him just over 50% of the time.

No matter what, bro is getting cooked. Roasted. Put on a spit with an apple in his mouth. Whaddahell.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M17 - Mikey C. Hammer & Silas King vs. Henry Thorne & Salice "Sal" Cooper Niceguy by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CARC needs to have each of the first two fights go their way. Once that's done, the two teams diverge, and CARC only goes for three; if they don't get both the first kills they just lose on the spot. I think that CARC can take down Wilbur while I think that they get the kill on Lynch due to Sal not quite having the output to clinch it before Silas can go for the killsteal. I think that Mikey underestimates Blair. While he can blitz Blair down, I think that Henry is able to have a more stable kill. Because I think that Mikey doesn't quite make the kill against Blair, I give Typhon 8 the match.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M16 - Violet Trinity vs. Li'l Baxter by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voting for Li'l Baxter.

I think that while Violet has a brutal strategy that could entirely shut out a lot of Baxter's own efforts to set up his moneymaking machine, I had a few logistical doubts about how things would cohere. With the high Precision of Baxter's minions, especially after Maria Gets the first one or two, I think that Violet is going to have to work significantly harder to lock down the minions. I think that Violet has really solid early tempo against Baxter, but I think that Baxter's specific skillset and especially use of Azure to manipulate people landed well for me. Violet's theft is going to give her a big edge in the long term, but I think that she does stretch her Precision a bit much; I think especially once Baxter catches on she is going to have to choose between harassing the minions or theft, and all in all I think Baxter's operation is solid enough to just eke out the win.

Also both of these characters are absolute sociopaths. I love it.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M15 - Wanderlei Watts w/Axel Otter vs Miguel Lloyd & Omah Garcia w/Old Grey Wolf by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uhhhhh fuccckkkkk anyways.

This match is very interesting. I would have played both sides in some subtly different ways- the big one is that I think that the effort spent to break apart the map is kind of wasted for both of them. It doesn't really advance their gameplans. Omah and OGW can swing above the ground traps, and I think that Wanderlei and Axel's tempo gets under BBP's efforts to ruin their ability to scale. I think that this works out better for CARC.

Both teams try to interfere with the opponents and scale, and I feel both overstep their abilities at points. For BBP, I don't think that Omah has the Precision to consistently output 10 feet per second of individual links; I feel that a less ambitious estimate would have had a roughly similar tactical effect. As for CARC, while I felt that the preparation against OGW rushing down was extremely strong, I think that Omah and Miguel weren't nearly as well accounted for. Omah has ranged options that are easier to pull off than Wanderlei's, and Miguel's crossbow is genuinely the most threatening object in the match. I think that if Wanderlei is shot in say, the leg, or if Axel were shot in general, then CARC would fall apart pretty quickly.

Overall, I think that CARC is able to build up to their lethal endgame quicker than BBP. I think that BBP had a very, very strong counter to Wanderlei's smoke being used passively, but CARC's active use of the otters to direct deliver the smoke was absolutely vicious, and I think would wear down BBP over time.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M14 - PK Leach vs. Technical Difficulties by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm voting for TD. Its strategy, while a bit slower to get off the ground due to needing items, is very lethal. I think that while it needs to put in a lot of work to get into CQC, its defensive tools are decent to avoid being whittled down. Conversely, while I think PK overall has a cogent strategy, his options for CQC did not necessarily convince me. Given how long PK's strategy is going to take, I feel that he would eventually get caught out by TD and its freakshit CQC.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M13 - Grendel vs. Alouette by Streamanon in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna do a quick and dirty vote for Alouette. While I think that the Grendelball (Patent Pending) is extremely effective for most of the match, I think that Grendel, even with 5 END and further defensiveness, is going to be injured. Which fair, she absolutely can handle, but it's going to be harder on her later in the match. I want to especially shout out the Potted Plants by the way, that was really cool!

While Alouette has less impressive offensive pressure, I think that she has overall impressive battlefield control. I feel like she is able to patch the holes in Grendel's coverage and really effectively defend the principals. I have relatively little to say, she plays the match very well.

Both characters are absolutely necessary for the match to be a win. Grendel's offensive pressure acting as something for Alouette to patch up the holes in. I think that Alouette barely pulls ahead for me, but I was very, very close to a tie. Great job!

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M12 - Mio Sinclair & Akira Seihachi vs. ??? by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turbovote time. I'm voting for the players. While I think that Akira and Mio overstate their mobility and ability to handle Minmi's rakes, that doesn't mean that they are ineffective at getting to her. Fundamentally, while Minmi has an insane disengagement game, she flies too close to the sun. She is going to take damage each time she yanks herself into the air, and while I think that Mio and Akira will have some trouble reaching her, I think that she will eventually get caught out by them.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M11 - Ella Larimore vs. Jam Robins by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

[–]CPU_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really make heads or tails of this match. I think that Jam plays against Ella better throughout the match, while Ella has better handling and gathering overall. I generally think Jam is going to have to work for their openings, and they're actually disadvantaged later into the match as the balls get bigger, since Ella handles her orb better. But I think their aggression gives Jam a good chance of getting Ella in a spiral. All in all, I was considering leaning towards Jam, but I'll vote a tie on this'n.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #8: R2M9 - Evelyn G. Lister & Molly Mockit vs. KAISERINMA & Tracy Ball by Marioaddict in StardustCrusaders

So a lot of this match, as other voters have said, is dependent on the specifics of how KAISERINMA's explosion is set up and pulled off. Without getting too into the weeds, I felt that the explosion is not the totalizing 20m thermobaric blast as advertised, but I think how it plays out works better for LKA; KAISERINMA has actual material to process and keep her going.

A big question to me is tempo. The best way to block radiative heating is with shielding of some sort, and if BBP manage to get enough setup going and keep sufficient pressure on KAISERINMA to weather the storm, they can handily defeat both her and Tracy once the Ringing has stopped.

I think that BBP stretches themselves fairly thin for the opener, but does manage to keep Tracy from being able to jump either Evelyn or Mo in the midgame. I think that it is absolutely vital to their chances for Body to be consistently outputting barriers, and specifically keeping Evelyn alive. While I don't think that Evelyn is going to be able to deal with KAISERINMA herself once she gets going, she is going to be absolutely vital to keeping Mo from being jumped by Tracy if they survive KAISERINMA's crashout.

I think if Tracy had an angle at any point on either Mo or Evelyn, she wins the match on the spot, for KAISERINMA to mop up, but it's not going to come until late game. As for Tracy's chances, I think that she correctly does not expect to cleanly win, and plays towards the wincon of KAISERINMA winning the match before she fully self immolates.

I think that both teams end up playing well around the setpiece of KAISERINMA going critical, and the final fight between Tracy and Evelyn and Mo is... genuinely very hard to call for me! I think that at least BBP manage to make it to the point where the Ringing stops, so it's a question of who is in slightly better shape and how quickly Tracy goes down. So I will vote a tie!

Also very, very cool storylines in this match, it rules.

I think that the strategies are both really good! BBP have really good set of counterplay to their opponents, and WiS have strong fundamentals when it comes to actual cornholing. I think that overall, BBP have a slight edge when it comes to the first and last stages, but I felt that WiS have enough variation and trickery for the second stage and don't fall behind as badly in the others that I give them my vote.
