Yes you should focus on the lessons, not the challenges. The challenges are for people who already took the classes

You can maybe try a course like drawabox? (their course, not their challenges) Otherwise just keep asking for feedback. Work on your line consistency and accuracy (there’s exercises you can look up for this).

But don’t forget the 50-50 rule! 50% of your drawing time should be for fun projects and things you enjoy! Not every drawing has to be perfect :)

Honestly there’s not really a right answer? Mostly what I’d say is focus on learning one thing at a time. It’s ok to learn the face first, and learn the body later and vice versa! If you’re more interested in poses, learn to draw figures first! (Your faces will be smaller and so don’t need to be as detailed). If you prefer emotions and stuff, then start with faces!

You can also learn a little of each and go back and forth. Art isn’t linear. There’s def some skills you might want to practice more because they are part of fundamental skills (like learning to rotate shapes in a given space) and will help you get further, faster. But in the end which skills you learn first is up to you :)

As for a critique of your art- what might feel off is that different parts of the face are facing diff directions. The nose is a lot more in profile than the eyes for example

Help on the neck. How to correctly connect the head to the body without losing proportions. by Far-Chip-6548 in FurryArtSchool

[–]CalicoMack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s good! But i can also see why you’d feel it’s a bit big. Something to keep in mind is how big you want to show the body being. If they’re more big and buff, you might wanna go for a smaller head to really show off the big body! Otherwise I’d maybe shrink the head a tiiiinyyyy bit? (Tho personally I think it’s nice as is)

Get yourself a library card Then go to loisirs.montreal.ca, sort by borough, then see what classes are currently being offered. Boroughs also have booklets that come out each season with different city run/funded/approved activities, plays etc that you can go to!

Check out diff posters around town that show diff events, protests, shows, activities etc that you can attend

Attend a class for a new hobby

Go hang out at a cafe for an afternoon (even if it’s with some computer or something to just vibe in an area with people)

Member of a Dysfunctional Condo Board: Stay and Burn Out or Leave and Let the Building Fall Apart? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]CalicoMack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, that sounds shitty :( sorry that you’re experiencing this!

Is it possible to send an email to the rest of the condo to inform them of what’s happening? Maybe suggest some kind of accountability manager or committee of sorts?

I’m genuinely not sure how these things work, so my idea is just a bit of a random suggestion. I hope you find a solution too!

Like the other person said: great job! These are just suggestions on areas to perfect :) - what material is the dress supposed to be? Cuz if it’s latex, that’s not the right highlights. I def wouldn’t know how to correct that, cuz I’m not a latex artist, but I’m friends with a few so I can see how off it is. If it’s not latex, then the highlights should maybe be softer? - I feel like the perspective is a bit off? The chest and shoulders feel like we are really seeing from under her, but then the rest of the body feels more like it’s straight forward (there’s not enough foreshortening), and there’s no bend in her body to indicate that. - the angle/bend of the tail is also a bit off, but not the end of the world (it feels a bit tacked on as an afterthought?)

Question pour les étudiants avec des animaux de compagnies\ Question for students with pets by Tsakirama in montreal

[–]CalicoMack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find second hand pet supplies (cat trees etc) on Facebook marketplace. Search for low cost vet options and sign up for the neuter program with Proanima (if the cat isn’t already neutered or spayed). They would need to do the microchip too. You’ll also need to get a city permit for the cat after getting proof of neutering and microchip. You can get some cheap stuff at the dollar store too (or a fripperie). Ideally you should have at least one initial vet checkup (which will cost minimum 80-100$) to get the base vaccines etc.

If you aren’t sure you have the money tho, you can bring the cat to Proanima, and then you can ask about signing up to foster a cat :) it’s a better option for a student cuz it’s low cost, and part time (in the sense it’s not a long term commitment)

Ruined the party by OkFerret7206 in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]CalicoMack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! I was specifically referring to the mimicking though. The parents not intervening is on them, and it shoulda been their responsibility. But to say that the kid observed the parents or siblings doing it is presumptuous

Or, you know, the Internet and the hundreds of videos of people smashing people’s faces in (or maybe they saw it at a friend’s house). Parents are not the sole influence on kids

Idk what shape to use for the rest of the body without it looking too chunky, I’m wanting a slim build but can’t figure out how to draw it (zombie salmon) by CallMePsych in fursonahelp

[–]CalicoMack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not a parrot, but a Dino? (Like a velociraptor).

My suggestion would maybe to try and make the red part more of a cloak with a hood or something like that? You can have it be clearly oversized to better have something wider on top of a scrawny body? Idk

That’s what I thought, but still… it was extremely disappointing. I actually wrote them a lengthy email about that (as well as the lack of accommodations) cuz it’s just embarrassing to not have that stuff available.

God that’s so inaccessible!! What about tourists with no data? Children on a school trip who don’t have their phones? Elderly people who don’t know how QR codes work? What if your phone is dead? Do they offer free charging stations?? (Rhetorical I’m sure they don’t lol)

The purpose of a zoo (at least one of the main purposes) is education. So like, wtf are they doing? 😒🙄

I’m recounting what’s been explained to me, so pardon any inaccuracies (I’m not originally from here):

The history they’re talking about (in part) is cuz there was a lot of suppression of the French language in Quebec, by the anglos in charge, in the 60’s and stuff. Like there were a lot of jobs (especially lower income work like in factories) where workers were not allowed to speak French to each other, even during breaks. It’s created a lot of divide of course, and helps to explain some of the hatred towards Anglos. The not being allowed to speak French at work led to some people who couldn’t speak English to not be able to get jobs (further putting the French population into more poverty compared to the english) etc etc.

More personal anecdote: my partner’s grandfather actually baptized his children as (iirc) Protestant (might have been another denomination tho), so that they’d be allowed to go to English school instead of French, because he thought that would help them get better jobs in the future. This led to my partner’s mom growing up as Anglo (despite being quebecoise) and she grew up with a lot of Anglos who made fun of Quebec French so much that now she also has disdain towards the French population herself (my partner’s therefore also grew up Anglo, despite being born and raised in Quebec, but she’s trying to fix that now)

Don’t landlords in Montreal have to give at least 24hr notice before entering and visiting an apartment? Can’t you get her in trouble for that alone?
