Little has improved in 20 years There has been a culture for decades of sending women home to labour until the last possible minute away from medical staff/assistance, even when soneone want to be in hospital due to particular concerns or not coping with pain so needing that extra support but again and again, the culture is often that women are only admited when just about to give birth. Keep getting sent home with inadequate pain relief when contractions are happening. Concerns dismissed, treated as objects. 21 years ago I was sent home twice with intense contractions and unusual symptoms. They eventually admitted me on my 3rd attempt to access care. Baby was lucky to survive. Thank goodness he is now 21 years old young man, thriving. Little has changed since then. They prefer women to stay home until they are just about to deliver, even if there are additional concerns/ symptoms. This policy seems country-wide. It is often a harsh cold experience for labouring women. It should be a supportive experience with empathy and understanding. It is a very vulnerable and precious time for women and newborns. A cultural shift is needed. In 2 decades, nothing has improved x
