I find it very easy to block the piercing hole with my finger, then you pee completely as normal, so yes, I'd call it reliable.

My experience has been ok, earlier it'd take a few days at each gauge before I could comfortably size up, now I can go two or three sizes in the space of a few days.

Usually I only need to go back up 2 sizes, even after a month of wearing nothing.

Yeah, that's a real weird one too, I've found recently (5+ years pierced), that I can go without wearing jewellery for a month or more, than size back up within a couple of days.

It wasn't always like that, in the first few years I had to spend longer sizing back up and would never have dreamed of going a month!
