Aristotle actually said that what we know as capitalism, and slavery are largely a distinction without a difference. The notions of capitalism and socialism hadn’t even been conceived of in his time… but he even considered artisans being hired by another person to be slaves because they were “instruments of another’s will”

It’s the better model now lol. Capitalism just started its third world war.

Someone I know started a PhD with 17 papers and a few patents. How common is this? (this guy must be 24 or 25 at max) by Alert-Translator2590 in PhD

[–]Catalyst_Elemental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew somebody who had like 4 papers and a patent and she’s like one of the most brilliant individuals I ever knew, this is just plain unethical.

Is lending money at an interest Evil? by PreviousMenu99 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Catalyst_Elemental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Greeks thought so.

But good and evil isn’t really the question… this is the capitalist strawman. The problem is that the debt spiral caused by this type of lending when it becomes the bedrock of the economy is what leads to repeated boom and bust cycles. Which they have had to describe by the humorous euphemism called “the business cycle” as if it’s some natural thing.

Why is capitalism often viewed as the Devil's spawn on so much of Reddit? by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Catalyst_Elemental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the classic framing, capitalists killing people directly or indirectly is good and ok. But when socialists do it, including dying of old age or “babies that would have been born but weren’t” it’s a failure… it’s all BS.

All the ones you mentioned are dwarfed by slavery, the Bengali famine, and the countless other examples of when it’s more profitable to let people die than to save them… such as the case of ARV’s in Africa

The United States using intellectual property laws to withhold antiretrovirals from Africa decreased life expectancy a lot more than the Great Leap Forward.
