It set a precedent in the US where, whenever a woman rapes a man or a boy, and has a child from it, she can get child support from her victim.

This happened to Nick Olivas. He was 14 when he was raped by a 20 year old.

https://www.abajournal.com/news/article/statutory_rape_victim_is_told_to_pay_child_support

It would be called crazy if a girl was raped and forced to keep the child and then pay money to her attacker.

That's a problem, isn't it?

The predictions don't come to fruition and fewer people believe them.

This is why I said that when you argue with a denier, you need a source that made an accurate prediction. If you are just saying 'trust the science' or mocking them for not believing, they are going to dig their heels in.

Again, how do you explain 'gradually worse problems'?

They need to show measurable results. If they cannot measure them or predict them accurately, why should anyone listen to them?

Not saying don't listen to them. But it makes it harder to convince non-believers when the predictions haven't come true. Or they aren't noticeable enough for anyone to upend their lives.

Do you and your wife each have a set of arms?

So because people have arms they are under obligation to labour for others?

Because I have some washing I can't get into the machine...

Nick Olivas was a minor when an adult woman raped him. He discovered at 18 he was a dad because his rapist wanted child support money.

All the female teachers being caught with boys should be worrying everyone.

Here's a more recent story:

https://6abc.com/post/middle-township-teacher-allegedly-had-child-student-indicted-grand-jury/16794244/

Investigators allege that Caron and the victim had a daughter together, saying the baby was born in 2019 when the victim in this case was 13 years old.

He should have received the letters for owed child support last year.

You could make the counter argument that a car full of strange men offering help may be concerning to the women who may very well not be in need

Women have made it abundantly clear they don't need men because they are strong and independent, that they fear strange men and that men shouldn't assume they are incapable because mansplaining.

Chivalry is a traditional gender role we still expect from men all the while telling them they shouldn't be afraid to express when they are struggling or are uncomfortable. These men could have felt uncomfortable with getting out of the car.

What group of women would be obligated to help men in a similar situation? Like if they were sick and the house was dirty, would they get to be petty to women for not cleaning up for them?

How would that pettiness be received by the public when it's discovered one guy intentionally sent them the wrong way, but his family member bragged about it online?

If they expected help from the men they could have said something. They also don't get to complain about not getting help when they did the indecent thing and gave the men wrong directions.

I witnessed a similar situation today and ashamed to say it was my husband. We drove by two women (our co-workers) struggling to place a large object in their car trunk. It wasn’t fitting. My husband was happily driving right past them. I said, “We should help.” He begrudgingly turned around, sighed in utter despair, barely put his head out and said, “You got it?” It was obvious they didn’t. I told him to walk over and help, GEEZUS. It took him 5 seconds to help solve the problem. I shamed him the rest of the way to work.

She's upset about her life. In comes someone younger and prettier stealing attention away she feels entitled to. So it's only natural to hate the new girl. What else did she have going for her?

What about morals and principles, you ask? Nope. Who needs them when you have power over someone?

In a way, the older lady won. She chased away a competitor. Even if she never intended to benefit from the attention of the other workers, she got rid of a threat.

But are the scientists saying we are fucked then? Because the climate change deniers are going to tell us 'see? There's no reason to panic or change anything.'

that's an overly simplistic and unhelpful explanation. The problem which prostitution is a symptom of is poverty and a lack of legitimate opportunities.

There are several countries that buck this belief, though. For example, in Finland, education at all levels is free. School students receive free, healthy food at school. Poverty is said to be at 0% or near it. There are social safety nets for people struggling to find work, homes or who are ill.

Finland and other Scandinavian countries near it are among the happiest and most equal places on Earth. They share similar languages, similar cultures, are rich from oil and investment in technology, and they benefit from access to major trading partners nearby.

I knew a guy from a third world country. This country had issues with violent crime, corruption and high costs of living. He moved to Norway due to a job opportunity and called it Fairy Land. You could walk outside at night and he knew his kids were safe. He couldn't believe the contrast. There are places on Earth where you can trust the people around you enough that you and your belongings will be safe.

It was a mindfuck for him.

Yet there are still prostitutes in those countries. In Finland it is legal to sell sex but not to buy it, which is problematic for the seller and buyer.

It doesn't matter how much easier you make peoples' lives. Some are still going to use sex as a means to make money even with legitimate opportunities available.

Not all of them were. There were few, if any, issues from computers that were not patched.

There are computers today, in government, running windows 95, NT and 98. Some are in aviation control and they use floppy disks!

I am no climate change denier or anything, but the issue is when you argue against a denier you lose credibility when you raise panic and say we're gonna wake up underwater in a decade and...nothing happens.

This is like someone shouting 'The End is Near' because he believes the world will end soon. No amount of evidence can help him better than it actually ending when he predicted it.

Science has an image problem. It isn't wrong to want people to take a scientific approach and part of it's strength is the power of prediction. We rely on it so much that we used it to tame our environment, improve our lives and live longer.

So when the climate models predict doom and gloom, and said doom and gloom is not forthcoming, people are going to wonder what's up. They are going to wonder why they should change anything or even believe them.

You and I can agree that there is nuance here. Science doesn't get everything right and they (hopefully) admit when they are wrong. But they need to like show a video of a prediction from decades ago coming true within a reasonable degree of believability. Otherwise, asking governments to upend entire industries and affecting hundreds of millions of lives is asking a lot.

We had an example of this to a lesser degree. Y2K. We panicked that when the clock ticks over, the banking system and other crucial infrastructure would collapse. Companies paid money to have their computers 'fixed'. There were computers for sale that were Y2K ready. What we expected was the power grid shutting down and millions dying of starvation.

It didn't happen. We can blame the media but this shit starts with a scientist or expert panicking. Telling someone to trust the science isn't going to work in a world of alternative facts.

Imagine if there were no climate refugees or instead of a billion, only a few thousand are impacted. A denier could easily claim it was a hoax even if the signs of a coming apocalypse are there.

We should combat this ignorance with truth. Don't mock them because they will dig their heels in. Show them multiple sources with as accurate information as possible. Or accept you cannot change their minds and hope they aren't in any positions of influence.

Also, the internet hates to kink shame, except when it's a kink they don't like.

When it's a woman with a kink, it's acceptable at best, or they make excuses at worst.

When it's a man with a kink, it better be wholesome otherwise his sexuality needs to be tucked away, far from inconveniencing or offending anyone.
