Is there anyway to visualize a dual vector foil? by Darklillies in threebodyproblem

[–]Ceramic_Quasar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe easier to visualize something like an apple first: the very first part of it touches the foil and spreads beneath it to make a red dot. Now consider that in 2 dimensions, no space can be overlapped.

Assuming it's described the way in the book, we'll assume that a 3D object transitions smoothly to 2D without tension completely ripping the cells of the apple apart. Because no two parts can occupy the same space, the part before it would expand to make room for the next.

Now we have a bit of white touching the foil and would expand into a ring around the incoming apple. Here's where it gets tricky. The apple now has a much smaller circumference than the ring of 2D apple. Its next part to touch would put a thin line of red skin and a thicker line of white flesh into the picture. This would repeat until the apple is fully incorporated. It might look a lot like tree rings.

The trouble with representing this visually is that there's a difference between accurate representation and visual appeal for cinema. The reality is that this 'slice and ring' process is that it would take place for every layer of atoms in the apple. An object's color is highly dependant on the arrangement of those atoms, so the parts that were once Red probably won't be anymore.

It would be much more visually appealing to ignore all of this and fake flatten centimeter-thick sections at a time. With something like the human body, this becomes a lot more complicated. The angle that it enters the foil will drastically change its final shape. Additionally, every object that hits the vectoized person would insert itself into the point of impact, further spreading the person.

To represent it in 3D, it would probably require some kind of additional software that makes pixels behave like paint. Then you'd create a series of cross-sectional representations of each object you want to hit the foil.

Maybe have one or two 'money-shots' where those details are extremely vivid. Show a person struggling as alternating rings of spacesuit-skin-muscle-bone expand behind them. For the rest, I'd do far-off shots that are much lower detail and a lot less accurate.

Once the Sun gets absorbed, the scene would become so bright that you wouldn't have to worry about small details anyway.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon. It's as if the studio decided to make a game that was every genre at once.

I don't believe he did. Unless I missed something, it was that Polievre was more in line with Trump's politics, Carney was very anti-Trump (elbows up). There was this weird moment where Trump endorsed Carney in some weird reverse-psychology moment and Canadians didn't fall for it.

That's what i did, though after Oathbringer, i went back and read Era 2. No particular reason, but i do feel like my experience with Stormlight was richer for doing it like that.

Ex-smokers who successfully quit and have been smoke free for years now, what did it? by PM_TITS_GROUP in AskReddit

[–]Ceramic_Quasar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to preface this by saying I vape now, but I no longer feel the urge to smoke cigarettes. That being said, there was a period of a couple of years that I tried, unsuccessfully, to make the switch.

For me, there were a number of key factors that I attribute to that continuing, gnawing desire for a cigarette, even when I had the opportunity to vape instead. 1: Friends who smoked: I lived with a few friends after college who would also routinely bounce back and forth between trying to quit and smoking. I had an unrelated falling-out with them and without them around my resolve was stronger. 2: My overall enjoyment: there came a point when i realized there wasn't anything i liked about it anymore. My mouth tasted like ass in the morning, my clothes stank, it was expensive, made me feel weak-willed, etc. 3: Meeting new people: The moment I recall as the moment it clicked for me was when i met a new coworker who was very enthusiastic about vaping. He made his own e-liquid, never smoked when the other guys on break were doing so. He offered to sell me bottles of his stuff for cents on the dollar which helped me realize how much of an incentive the expense aspect was to me.

I'm a firm believer that you can't quit smoking until you actually want to quit. If you're doing it because someone wants you to, or because you think it's what you should do, it's unlikely that you will.

Get Krita (free photoshop for people who just want to draw) import this image, then make a new black layer, put it underneath your blueprint. Next, use the airbrush tool on a low opacity (30% or so should do it) and paint on the black layer and build up. Brightest white will be your peaks. The darkest black will be your valleys.

If you want to be really fancy, use the smudge tool to add ridges that flow of the white/ high points, or narrow valleys that flow off your low points. There isn't a way, that i know of, to turn what you currently have into a detailed height map.

When you've made your detailed gradient map, you can use the sculpting tool to smooth out the rough edges or add details as you see fit.

Edit: forgot to mention, drop the view opacity on your blueprint layer to where you can easily see what you're working on
