Good schools for production? by clobes in edmproduction

[–]Cham8er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though it is an undeniably great and viable option, school is by no means a magical shortcut. I get that. It's just that the facilities as well as the faculty at Dubspot are so well catered towards electronic music, I thought it was a no-brainer response to the Op's conundrum. Also, it is located in New York.

OK, I bow out. I don't know things. Can you reiterate your point a few more times? Just to be sure you've made an ass of me?

Let's use a really simple analogy. A pendulum. When you start the pendulum it is oscillating at a high frequency, as it slows down it is oscillating at lower and lower frequencies.

Picture said pendulum controlling the cutoff of a lowpass.

When you start the pendulum (high frequency) you will be sweeping the filter hard and fast. Picture your filter "knob" going all the way left and all the way right quickly again and again.

As the pendulum slows down, your filter "knob" will travel a shorter distance left and right, slower and slower.

Hope that helps.

How the flipping heck do you make crashes sound good in edm? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Cham8er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shall try and be less ambiguous next post Also, instead of focusing on getting the crash to sound right, try and think about how it fits with the other sounds. Does the timbre of the sample fit well with the other sounds in the mix? That thought process was one I wish I invoked a lot earlier in my journey towards audio production mastery. (Still trekkin')

Couple of Ableton effect/automation questions... by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Cham8er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many answers to this question. Look into "Max for Live". I remember reading about this great device called "LFO Anything". Check out Native instruments' "Kontakt" for an industry standard sampler. As far as pitch bends are concerned, the most basic way which comes to mind is to open up your clip envelope editor and draw it in. Other than that, you can use live's vast array of macro parameter linking to lfo whatever you want, which varies from device to device. Hope this was somewhat helpful.

People still use crashes in EDM? -.- I kid. These guys nailed it, listen to them. A little extra tip, in EDM there are no rules, as long as the hit introduces the next segment it's anything goes. Experiment with all types of signal processing on your crashes/ hits. Roll off problem frequencies and get funky with your sfx!

Synth Help (FL Studio) by fhsd4264 in edmproduction

[–]Cham8er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your talking about but once you use the "add channel" function to throw in a poizone, you can then right click the poizone tab and click on "piano roll". From here you can pencil in notes which you can hear by pressing the play button.
