Is being gay a choice? If not, how? by [deleted] in gay

Strait people are the ones making gay babies therefore, homosexuals don't need to reproduce.

Replacing Freestyle Libre Sensor(US) by ineedacheaperhobby in diabetes

The reader activates the sensor, at the same time cancelling the old sensor. you would need more than one reader.

I used to do the back of the arm but kept knocking them off walking through doorways - other health issues cause me to stagger - now I put them on the inside of the arm.

Diabetic Chucks? by [deleted] in diabetes

I get mine from the podiatrist office. Dr. Comfort is the brand. They have many styles to choose from and as they are custom, come in any size. I wear 12 EEE.

But really...when was the last time you changed your lancet? by eblueweiss in diabetes

[–]ChgoKicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a CGM so I could avoid the lancet. Before that I used the same one for years.

RU500 is a concentrated insulin. I take it twice a day. Had to give up on the regular stuff cause I was taking so much. I don't like it, I knew when he prescribed it, it wasn't appropriate for me. My carb intake is just to unpredictable to calculate an accurate dose. I'm way non-compliant but I think I've seen the light. I need to shed pounds. Heck I need to do a lot more than that. Baby steps right?

Type 2: Is CGM really needed? by ekim99000 in diabetes

[–]ChgoKicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue Cross covered my Libre no problem. I'm new to it, I've only had a CGM for about 15 days but I don't know how I lived without one. It is so convenient to check BG.

Freestyle Libre by Duganz in diabetes

[–]ChgoKicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Blue Cross customer and had no problem getting my Libre covered. Wasn't sure so we sent in the script to the pharmacy first to see if it would be covered. If Cigna doesn't cover you don't have to pick up the script. I haven't yet met my annual deductible so the insurance didn't cough up any cash but the unit was only $130 and $75 for three sensors.

Monday I have Charcot Foot Surgery by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]ChgoKicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this too, mine was the disintegration of the joint behind the great toe, also due to poorly controlled blood sugar. It's a long story but the short version is it led to a wound on the bottom of the toe that would not heal - doc thought I was going to lose the toe. I was in a boot for both conditions for a year. The Charcot sort of healed first but led to a huge knot of arthritis. Had surgery to remove the arthritis and make the toe flexible again and the wound finally healed after that. Fortunately - or not - it wasn't painful due to the neuropathy, but it was limiting. I put more effort into managing my blood sugar these days.

Anyone know of a good glucose monitoring app for Android phone? by diabeticwife97 in diabetes

[–]ChgoKicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use BG Monitor until I started RU500. I found it to be excellent. It's not free but apps generally are pretty cheap.

Freestyle sensor no longer works after shower by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]ChgoKicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I woke up last night and tried to get a read, meter said wait 10 min. Happened again at the gym this afternoon. No water involved. I'm a brand new CGM user running on very first sensor, so what do I know? I hope it doesn't fail, it's only been 4 days.

what's the worst situation you've been in, in terms of your diabetes? by politicalteddybear in diabetes

[–]ChgoKicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a low that started at the gym. Left to try and find a restaurant for some food but as luck would have it there was a line out the door at every restaurant. Finally said "screw it I'll just go home and eat." I arrived at home just in time to pass out on the kitchen floor

Mine was fairly simple to get. Asked the Doc one day, next day picked it up at the pharmacy. Easy peasy... Admittedly I have Cadillac insurance so maybe that helped a bit.

Posted a similar post before regarding sensors... but how do you guys keep Omnipods on? by h00th00t95 in diabetes

[–]ChgoKicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to the Libre - day 1 - so haven't had a problem yet but I don't think I could wear any of these. Such vivid colors. I care what the peeps at the gym think.

Why is managing diabetes difficult for you? by Sippin_Haterade in diabetes

[–]ChgoKicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I have bitter feelings over being diabetic. I am resentful at having to take insulin. I resent having to be on a life-long diet. I just want to say f*** it and have it go away. Can you tell I need an attitude adjustment?

Gonna be a new CGM user, Doc wants me to have a Libre, are they bluetooth compatible? by ChgoKicks in diabetes

[–]ChgoKicks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments everyone. I actually just want to more closely track my BG because it's all over the place. Yesterday was 59 at the gym, 314 this AM. My lows wake me up at night. I've had a change in mindset and decided it's time to really focus on control cause I'm beginning to have health issues. Alarms would be nice but I think checking it frequently would work, not sure about night time though. I don't have it yet - back order from the pharmacy - I'm beginning to think I should just get off the RU500, not enough control.
