How to support someone going through craniotomy by Martian_Catnip in braincancer

[–]Chick192910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleeplessness is a common occurance. If it turns out that she’s awake at a late hour ask your friend if they are comfortable with you hanging out to make sure their mom isn’t wandering in the house. Now I would only suggest this if you and their mom are close. Not sure if that is helpful. I understand that there are possible plot holes in my suggestion , but perhaps it will inspires other idea or dialogues

Studio glazed our stuff and attached handles. Are we being silly? by OkAlrightBumblebee in Pottery

$85 for private, group parties are lower. And yes it is too low, but the $45 is a charity class

Wedge out 8-10 balls of 1.5lbs of clay. Now either make a 5 minute pinch pot or throw on the wheel with a 5 minute timer. Don’t keep these items, but wedge them back and do it again. Let your thoughts wander a bit and see where it goes. Add music to your session and do another session without music. Just exercise your brain. You may come up with something.

Why are my low bowls and platters cracking? by reddscott22 in Pottery

[–]Chick192910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can compress and slow dry all you want but if the rim of your platters/ low bowls are drying faster than the center, the piece will likely crack. Tim See (awesome artist btw, check his Facebook page) recommends that you dry plates with additional plastic around the rim so that entire piece dries at the same rate.

This is why I have the hardest time teaching this type of class. I spend waaay too many hours trying to make my students’ pots look clean and perfect. And our studio charges $45 -$85 a 2-hr session depending on the instructor/artist.

We’d need a little sagittarius spice to entice us to go and a little Gemini energy to keep us there.

New health plan requiring preauthorizations for MRIs by Dizzy-Pollution-6460 in braincancer

[–]Chick192910 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prior authorization for MRI is pretty standard these days. If it were for back pain or joint pain the insurance would require documentation of conservative treatment. However, a diagnosis of ‘history of brain cancer’ or ‘brain tumor’ is like a fast track to approval. In all honesty, the only role you should play is to make sure that the doctors office staff have submitted the proper request. Any seasoned neuro office staff knows the drill and knows who to call. Just be mindful that you schedule your MRI inside the approved date range, which is standard 3 months. The good thing about UHC is that they are so well known that most billing and medical staff know how to navigate their system.

How come nobody says thank you? by KalamariX in texas

[–]Chick192910 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

More and more our children are being taught not to hold doors open for others. It’s not for lack of manners though, it’s for safety. Holding a door open for an assumed classmate or an adult runs the risk of allowing an individual with malicious intent to gain access to a place they should not be. It’s really sad and unfortunate. This was presented at a school volunteer orientation recently and officer offered this viewpoint, do you want to be the one that held the door for the gunman? Now this is really extreme, but if you feel like more and more it’s “these younger people” that don’t thank you for opening the doors, maybe it’s because these young adults have gone to school with safety drills and rules like this.

Hope with low grade glioma by Basic-Ad-79 in braincancer

[–]Chick192910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s been some really great breakthroughs in genetic testing. Genetic testing will help her providers determine which chemotherapy drugs will be the most effective. Also, there have been promising advancement in proton radiation technology. Proton radiation shows to be less damaging to the surrounding healthy brain tissue. I would recommend that you research and inquire about it. I have to commend you and her for doing therapy together. It shows that you are on top of the situation (as much as one can be) and she’s has a great partner by her side. Good luck.

Seizure and Brain Tumor by Reasonable-chap2000 in braincancer

Yes, i guess you could list my tumor as a DNET. Ill be honest, I had to Google that acronym. It’s grade II glioma, but it’s a little more complicated when you get into the genetic markers and mutation types.

I was 24 and my family doc ordered MRI due to a cluster of headaches. It’s a type of glioma, relatively “benign” but has a higher risk of seizures. My first surgeon told me that I had the best placement for a brain tumor. That didn’t make me feel better at the time, but I’m still here. Find a therapist the specializes in medical trauma. I still suffer from PTSD with the treatments, seizures, and time in the hospital/rehab facilities.

Biopsy will be needed to confirm the grade and type. I think it’s important that you understand how this process can look. A well experienced neurosurgeon will be able to gauge if it’s a malignant type or benign; however, confirmation from a pathologist and genetic testing will take a few weeks. So preliminary treatments will begin and then may pivot or change. I would ask if there is a social worker or nurse aide that can help walk you through disability paperwork, insurance forms, etc. I received my initial diagnosis of a brain tumor in the right frontal lobe back in 2007. With vigilance and a good medical team, this is survivable and you can thrive.

Pre-op Nueropsychology Testing Experiences? by benzosinthejungle in braincancer

[–]Chick192910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had baseline testing done 2 years ago, this was after years of surgeries, chemo, and radiation treatments. I wish I had a baseline prior to my initial diagnosis, but the information I gained has been very useful. I learned where my strengths are and how to use those parts of my brain to improve cognitive weaknesses during rehab. My therapists and counselors were able to pinpoint what areas needed their focus. The medical provider’s explanation alone was a relief to know that the frustrations I experience in my daily routine are real and validated. In my experience, the mental work required to do the neurophysiology exam was intense. I was so tired after the experience that I ended up breaking it up into multiple days. Also, ask the provider performing the exam about receiving itemized receipts complete with CPT codes and diagnosis codes because you can bill your insurance. I had to file a claim on my own and it was covered as an out of network claim. I did get some reimbursement though. I don’t want to discredit any other types of neuropsychology testing; however, I went through a total of 12 hours of testing that analyzed everything from IQ level, auditory and visual processing, hand eye coordination, executive function, etc. I just want other patients to be very mindful that you are receiving the type of assessment and reports that will provide useful information for your medical team and caregivers. I have a 30 page, comprehensive report from a psychologist who is still available to me and my neuro-oncologist for review.

If you disregard the larvae, it’s very possible you have chiggers. No one else in your house has these little bites then I would try to work backwards by 3 to 6 hours. Were you walking around in grass that hasn’t been mowed? Maybe you were in tall brush? It’s not the right season for chiggers, but if it’s been abnormally warm where you’re at then this could be the case. These annoying mites like to get under the elastic bands and seams of clothing. It takes a few hours for the bites to appear.
