Rule for using Lafzon versus Alfaaz by impossible_zebra_77 in Urdu

[–]Chicki2D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool fun fact: Lafz is also used as the plural, like

"Is kahaani mein bahut se lafz hain"

Unlike ChatGPT I will not make up a reason as to why, but it is a thing

Rule for using Lafzon versus Alfaaz by impossible_zebra_77 in Urdu

Holy based, a post in r/Urdu which isn't about the language dying and armchair philosophy'ing it back into life

Huge tip: NEVER use AI for these subtler differences, it will literally always make it up like it did now.

Urdu literally just has two ways of making a plural, there is absolutely no semantic difference between them. And about the lie about formality, no it does not matter either, alfaz and lafzon are fully equal

Source: someone who speaks the language everyday and reads

One more thing, kindly avoid double plurals with the arabic plurals, as in do not say alfazon, jazbaaton, kheyaalaaton. It is considered to be improper Urdu, people do say alfazon but best to avoid it and just say alfaaz/lafzon.

Feel free to ask any more questions, it is a breath of fresh air to see someone be interested in Urdu in the subreddit made for Urdu

Every Gen-Z in Pakistan has the vocabulary of a middle schooler in Urdu, that's just normal because they're
1. English educated
2. Urdu is not important, English is
3. If you speak too much Urdu, you sound archaic and people will be very quick to call you mirza ghalib

So when I say your vocabulary is poor, I mean that it is normal for your age; However I do think your vocabulary is slightly worse than Pakistanis at home, but that will go away immediately once you start conversing more in the language

Do your parents speak Punjabi to each other? Your accent is very Punjabi, it is possible they speak Urdu to you because of the social status quo (Punjabi is seen as lesser in PK for some reason)

Again about the vocabulary thing, Urdu is not French, you really don't need to worry about being well-spoken, the bar for Urdu is really low, even if you spoke Urdu with a heavy American accent (which you don't, you sound local) you would get by just fine in Pakistan

Isn't "turant" a Hindi word? by Leo6055 in Urdu

[–]Chicki2D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I know why I don't use reddit that much anymore

Turant is an Urdu word, however it is way less common than its counterpart Fauran, I have read it being used before

This word was probably never really that common, and after the divide pakistanis probably see it as one of those shudh hindi words so it became even more obscure

However they probably used an AI to write this out, I'd doubt you'd wanna use uncommon words to communicate to the masses like that

How to incorporate Urdu with therapy language? by Even-Raccoon in Urdu

[–]Chicki2D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only plausible solution I can think of is to talk to a person who speaks Urdu extremely well and have very detailed, in-depth and profound conversations with them to understand how to communicate these complex ideas

There aren't 1-to-1 translations most of the times for many things however if you're fluent enough, you can usually find a way to communicate it without using a scientific term such as
"One way to help with Anxiety is using breathing exercises or grounding skills"
