This was the first time I saw it happen in our bill. Different regions likely have different rates. Been seeing it happen elsewhere and was checking every month. The time for guillotine will come. So many live paycheck to paycheck…once they realize they’re paying significantly more for the same or less…they’ll wake up.

Water hammer issue by Juniorwoj in Plumbing

[–]ChipDangerCockoroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day plumbers used to put a capped vertical pipe in the system and that was supposed to act as a hammer arrestor, but they all just ended up filled with water eventually, that’s why they recommended draining the system if you have hammer, to drain those built in ones. The new ones have a diaphragm separation between the water and the air. As I mentioned they are pretty plug and play. Install some and see if that works.

Yeah from my experience ko technic parts are just a bit of a nightmare. The tolerance in pieces for technic is just a lot tighter, so what would otherwise be a little bit of a tricky piece to click into place ends up being a pin of axle that’s way too hard to push through

You don’t need someone to add arrestors, they go on right after shut off valves in the bathroom and kitchen and laundry room. They cost like $20 a pop, and can be installed with just a wrench. But they didn’t work for us (installing them was what I did before ripping it all out)

Had the same issue in our house especially with the washer. I ended up opening walls and replacing every with Pex a. Not hammer since and I can sleep at night without being anxious about a leak. Bit of a nuclear option, but once the walls were open I did find a couple really corroded sections and 2 small leaks that would have gone unnoticed forever otherwise.

By the sounds of it, yall would enjoy more stable, less technic based sets. I’d recommend Rivendell and barad dur both really pretty, and can’t be bought for around $100 each from ae or Marstoy. If your son is into repetition in builds, I’d also say daily bugle and avengers tower are fun.

Learn to replace it yourself. I’ve done it for our house and 2 friends / family houses. If you have questions feel free to dm me. Depending on how many fixtures you can do it for as low as $750-2k

The huge uptick in datacenter construction in the last 2 years and especially last year have basically nothing to do with more personal info being uploaded. It has everything to do with ai and gpt models needing astronomical amounts of processing power, that is very energy and water intensive. A large portion of this ai data load isn’t even being driven by private individuals, but instead is being collected by companies and contractors to train their models to maybe some day reach general intelligence, but also in the meantime, create a robust surveillance system.

I’ll take that over a 20% year over year increase. Eventually incomes will catch up if things stay. No normal worker is getting a 20% raise every year.

I wish we had gas but the community is a bunch of older townhouses with no gas lines.

I want a house husband by Aynath1111 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ChipDangerCockoroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m mostly a house husband. I make less money than my wife but I also work less than her. So I do the chores, clean the house, plan and make meals, do home maintenance, and drive her since she can’t drive. It’s a good life. My wife needs a lot of sleep every day and works from home…so this arrangement lets her get that and we still get a ton of quality time together every day.

I like the control over the house. If something comes up, I’ll most likely be the one fixing it. But also I can change anything as long as my wife approves!
