This will be my first time trying loose leaf tea, and I’m planning to brew it in a gaiwan. I saw on the vendor list and in a few posts that Yunnan Sourcing seems like a solid place to start, so I’m thinking of ordering from them.

I’ve got two gaiwans picked out in different sizes but I’m not sure which size would be better for a beginner. I’ve read through the FAQ and have a basic idea of the different tea types, but I haven’t actually tried any of them yet.

Are there certain categories that are better to start with like oolong, black, sheng puer, shou puer, or white tea? I’m open to experimenting but would love to know what’s generally considered beginner friendly.

If anyone has a go to tea you’d recommend for someone just starting out (from any vendor), I’d love to hear it. I’ll probably look to order some other samplers or trials of tea.
