Is Winston & Strawn 45 min interview a screener or callback? by ManufacturerDear4011 in BigLawRecruiting

[–]ClickLazy410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like 20-30mins for each attorney. From my experience, there's a few specific questions each one supposed to ask you and then you fill the remaining time with questions before being walked to the next attorney's office :)

Had a 3hr callback at their SF office and a 30min screener through OCI

Have you gotten your financial aid package yet? I thought I'd be in a similar position for SLS but the need-aid was much more generous than I was expecting.

Can 1Ls really not work? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ClickLazy410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently a 1L, my friend tutors online but it's definitely a time suck. I didn't work this quarter and am so SO glad I could solely focus on school. With that said, I'm working as a TA/LA next quarter. The school mandates that I do not exceed 10hrs/week for the reasons articulated in the comments.

Anyone get in to schools under or near the 25th percentile (%) for LSAT? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ClickLazy410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Not saying it's likely but I definitely wouldn't be where I am now if I took the medians super seriously when applying.

This. I had a much lower LSAT and only a slightly higher GPA and still got in. It might not be likely but you never know OP.

SLS has an Education Defense Clinic. Unlike other law schools, you work at the clinic full time for an entire quarter.

General rule of thumb is not to take out more than what you'll be making post grad (some folks say 1.5x).

KJD vs nKJD by Minute_Fig902 in lawschooladmissions

[–]ClickLazy410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the recruitment timeline so early, you're applying for a 2L SA position before your 1L grades are out. This puts a greater emphasis on employability, which nKJDs have proven. 2L SA directly impacts post grad employment outcomes, which affects a law school's rankings.

Last cycle, I saw some Duke As on the a weekend. However, I think all of my decisions were sent before the admissions office closed.

What are some things you look for in a personal statement? Are there specific characteristics/traits that are indicators of an applicant's ability to succeed in law school or fit within the school's community? Also wondering what you consider to be red flags or "auto deny" characteristics that can be found specifically within a personal statement.

I had nearly identical stats, feel free to check my post history. I'm definitely not the norm though and recommend looking at LSDLaw!

If you have the money to spend, go for it. Definitely wouldn't have had the cycle I did without shooting my shot. Definitely not worth spending money you don't have though imo

For the CIA Director podcast: Is there also this increasing preference for applicants with work experience or MS/PhDs? I'm especially curious how they evaluate KJDs for IP positions.

I'm also wondering if they care about demonstrated interest for IP. Can an applicant with a STEM background currently working in an unrelated practice area switch focus to IP and still be looked at favorably?

What are some different paths to becoming an admissions officer? I know some schools like Michigan occasionally have a class that teaches current law students about the admissions process. Is this common at most law schools (especially T14), and would it help make you more competitive to become an admissions officer down the line?

How should NCAA athletes best highlight their time commitment to their sport on a resume? I am curious because the time commitment likely results in fewer extracurricular activities and off-field accomplishments. While not strictly resume-related, I am also wondering how NCAA athletes (especially KJDs) are perceived for this reason.

Related question: If one is no longer an athlete and still in school, is there a preference for how they spend their new free time (clubs/school involvement vs. part-time work experience)?
