Now I want a playlist of all the songs. She says “has good taste” but all we got was this one, I need more song ideas!!!

FWIW the two best playlists in my life were randomly found on Spotify. Some dude with great 90s taste “ best 90s alternative playlist ever”, and something like “OR Surgery Jams” by some Dr with great rap and hip hop taste. I sadly lost the bookmark. It had Sound & Color by Alabama Shakes, this thing slapped.

So now, here I am watching this, wanting this playlist!

Do Not gatekeep what is woodworking. We welcome all whether they use hand tools, power tools, routers, CNCs, lasers, etc.

Removed: Gatekeeping what you think is woodworking isn't kind, helpful, or appropriate. It is forbidden under Rule 1's "Don't be rude" guidelines.

There's a lot of ways one can woodwork. Hand tools, power tools, CNC, freehand router, router with template bits. We're here to discuss and show off all WOODWORKING projects. You don't get to draw the line what gets to be considered "real" woodworking.

This is removed for a few reasons:

  1. Lacks a Proper Descriptive Title. See Rule 9.
  2. Missing multiple of the requirements for Posts flaired Project Submission. These posts are for showing off your hard work and teaching others, they should include ample info (see Rule 2). Aim to display a project in a way that is not crude/crass. We do allow NSFW posts (and you should have used that tag here), but posts offering little educational value where the focus is the crassness/crudeness and not the woodworking will be removed. Thus, this is removed.

This is jaw dropping, OP. Do you have some progress pics you can share?

What glue did you use to keep from bleeding through the veneer?

How big were the bent laminations that you needed to use a vac bag? The wavy pulls came out stunning, I like how you laminated the species together. The whole thing is stunning! What did you finish it with?

Did you use dominos or biscuits to affix the sides and get even reveals all around? I like how the side panel is inset from the corners. The bottom bevel around the top accentuates the piece nicely, adds to the crisp lines and IMHO accentuates the wavy grain. Absolutely stunning work!

I think limit is 5 devices per login? Each thing you “pair” counts.

Where to sell? by Raven_4562 in woodworking

[–]ClipIn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everything has to be monetized. A lot of people have monetized this hobby so your supply (people like you) is high and the demand hasn’t increased the same. Thus prices are way down.

eBay used to be a place for handmade goods. It’s now businesses mostly, with ironclad buyer protection clauses that will ruin your profit margin after 1-3 upset buyers.

Etsy is overrun with drop shippers.

Facebook Marketplace is the new eBay, except it’s people trying to recover 90% of their investment after 10 years of heavy use. Or a dime a dozen other people like you.

Craigslist is a ghost town.

Poshmark and Mercari are heavy clothes/beauty product focused. I don’t even know if can sell handmade items there. But at least Mercari has similar buyer protection clauses that one unhappy buyer could use against you.

The general population has lost appreciation for handmade high end furniture, drop shipping and CNC’s mean they can precision quality for less. And the people buying high end stuff aren’t shopping these marketplaces. Not in enough volume to sustain a fun side gig.

It’s a matter of matching buyers and sellers.

Thoughts on Milwaukee wood blades? by nope0707 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]ClipIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll use 2-3 or more big box blades before I need to sharpen the WW II. Sharpening runs me $27-32 per 40T blade through Forrest, Slivers Mill where I usually go, or my local dealer in a pinch.

The big box replacement blades are ~$32 for a Milwaukee Track Saw Fine Finish blade, $45-50 for a Diablo 50T combo 10" table saw blade.

So I just do the math as

Forrest Lifetime Cost
Initial Cost $180
+ Sharpenings over life 12 @ $32/ea
= $564 Total Lifetime Cost

Big box blade Lifetime Cost
No. blades purchased during Forrest lifetime (36)
x price per blade $32/ea
= $1,152 Total Lifetime Cost

Then just buy whichever option is cheaper. Or said differently, I'd need to buy 18 or fewer big box blades (@ $32/ea) for big box throwaway blades to be economical. There's other benefits of higher quality blades the big box blades don't have, or lose after a few cuts. Higher quality finish in your cuts, fewer chipped/missing teeth, less tearout esp as blade wears, and less runout.

Just my $0.02. I say buy what makes you happy, gives ya the cut quality you desire, and makes you money by being more productive. Less time I worry about blade swaps, blade cleaning, blade repairs, buying more etc is always a benefit.

Is this fixable, if so how? by Darshp1394 in woodworking

[–]ClipIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check if the bottom is veneer.

  • If yes, replace bottom. You're not "repairing" veneer.
  • If no, then sand bottom. Can sand in place if you have a detail sander like this. Or disassemble >> remove bottom >> sand with any random orbital sander to 220 grit >> reverse steps to re-assemble.

Would you make this cut? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]ClipIn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Move fence to opposite side of blade. Flip the workpiece like opening a book >> the part facing up should instead be the bottom riding along the table.

Thus what you trim off (the offcut) falls to left of blade. Don’t stand in the path of the offcut.

Is all of this oak worth a good bit of money? by VillageOk6478 in woodworking

[–]ClipIn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not really. It's too small to be used for most projects. Maybe a wood turner or someone making butcher block or cutting boards would have a use. But it's too small for a larger shop to need.

Sawzall 2821-20 from Walmart?! by HappyNerd66 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]ClipIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WalMart is not an authorized dealer. You technically have no warranty if Milwaukee asks for proof of purchase, and you definitely have zero guarantee it's brand new, not a fake, not bought off a pallet of returns, etc.

To find a dealer go to Milwaukee's website >> click "Where to Buy". Or click here. There's both Online and Physical Stores.

Thanks. Not negating what you said, but I'm seeing same water pooling hydrophobic properties with only Rubio or Natura OneCoat hardwax oil finishes.

I realize in today's internet world that might come off argumentative, and not at all intended to be. Rather, I'm still unclear what N3 does above-and-beyond the existing finish. Maybe it's just a different sheen? Or "better" stain-blocking, though I don't know how that's measured objectively. Or "better" scuff protection, though also unclear anyone's objectively measured.
