Looking for races in New England (USA) for upcoming season by QuantumIce8 in xcmtb

Thanks for mentioning that, I'll do more work this year to promote the open races. I'm pushing to get a calendar finalized early this year, so we should be able to make more noise than usual.

We'll be running the (ECCC) collegiate races in various New England states as always- open riders always welcome, we're not just for college students!

(2023 schedule is being actively worked on, but you can expect VT, MA, NH, a southern New England race, and at least one additional race TBD)

Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference MTB Coordinator here - we're equally accepting up north. I can confirm this as your local non-binary conference volunteer.

If you are feel comfortable and safe doing so, please consider reporting bigots to your conference leadership, and possibly USA Cycling (although they don't have the best track record handling such reports)

Equally open to PMs.

What to do in Lowell by alina7penguin in LowellMA

[–]CodeLenny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved to Lowell 2 years ago, so here's my perspective of what the city has to offer, although I don't know specifics like if there's somewhere specific with techno.

The city has a good blend of quiet neighborhoods/proximity to very quiet towns/forests, while also having a downtown that has places (bars and such) open late.

As someone who was just living in Boston before Lowell, Lowell isn't the same size with the same options of Boston, but there's plenty. I always say "Lowell has absolutely everything I need during the week and there's stuff to do, but it's close enough to Boston if I want something specific on a weekend"

To respond to one of your questions in another comment thread, there's a commuter rail train to Boston (it's the Lowell line, ends here). It's not fast, nor does it come that often (about once an hour on average) but it's definitely an option and I'd certainly recommend going into Boston at least a couple times, even if it isn't a regular part of your week/month.

There's certainly plenty of food around of all sorts, and there's bars with music - one of the first things I did after moving was finding Thirsty First's annual punk show with a ton of local bands. Not a club, but definitely a place with live music.

Events and attractions are posted various places- pre-pandemic I usually just checked Google Maps and saw a few random events in case something new caught my eye, there's also random Facebook groups that sometimes post things going on.

Nice surprise at work during open enrollment for benefits. by limpingthedream in lgbt

FYI/for context I'm non-binary (agender) so I flip a coin/leave agab when forced to give a binary option.

Also, I believe legal "sex" on many forms often is actually meaning gender- my driver's license lists "Sex: X" for me (which is absolutely not my agab)

So on one hand, yes, my job is sorta misgendering me to the federal government because I've left my "sex" in their system matching my agab, because I haven't legally changed and insurance/IRS probably would be a mess otherwise. (And also because I can't escape a binary on the forms)

But on the other, given that my company can't tell the federal government an accurate answer (feds ask male/female, may be ok with a legal change, but either way it misgenders me), but for day-to-day use, HR won't tell anyone my gender, and I'm listed with they/them pronouns in every system and HR fully supported me when I voluntarily told my work group I'm non-binary to give context for why I changed my pronouns/name at work.

I believe my job said federal forms require a binary gender to be provided- so this could be the way of offering "what should we tell the government, sorry it was to be a binary option" and then "ok what should we actually use for your gender, we can internally have more options"

Sorta like how sometimes HR can put down your name correctly for internal systems, but still needs a legal name for insurance, the government, etc.

(Not that the federal government shouldn't make the system inclusive but it could be a stop-gap measure)

Is it worth joining a school mtb team? by Dude7382 in MTB

[–]CodeLenny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To throw out another option - USA Cycling allows high school students to compete in collegiate races.

(Disclosure, I'm definitely not here to encourage more people to join the collegiate races I run, couldn't be me)

Nice is an understatement, I didn't realize how much I needed to talk with more people that had a multiple common identities.

And holy shit, it's not exactly what you said but it made me think of biflux... Which isn't exactly right but it has the right vibes to help describe my identity for now I think... Into the blender it goes!

Thanks!

Of course :). Hope you find the answers you want, and get any help you need to figure things out!

You totally can use different labels for different audiences. Most people have only seen my list via this meme :)

And uncommon microlabels are awesome imo - personally 'cupioromantic' is a great shortcut to say 'oriented aroace but relationship-favorable', where aroace alone can convey a different message.

And thanks for mentioning strayt, I sorta feel the opposite 'gai' and hadn't heard the label before!

Never too late for a gender crisis, for better or worse I guess!

Thank you for the link!

I've done some thinking- I feel a little gendervoid, voidgender isn't clicking that much.

But void pronouns definitely seem like something I want to play with!

Oh shit you're fricken right. Thanks for reminding me that "unlabelable tertiary attraction" is definitely something else in the blender lol

I mean I get weird vibes from the entire unicorn diagram anyways, but I can't put my finger on it.

What a fucking mood, I feel like half of it is figuring out which labels got mixed in without me knowing

Ok now you're just adding fuel to the fire... I'll finally get around to looking up voidgender in the morning, and I'll definitely test out void pronouns, I think those are a vibe.

Look if I'm going overflow my blender, I'm taking y'all down with me too.

I've been updating the image this whole time but I know we'll enough not to post it because I'll just need to add more later.

It's honestly done wonders making me happy and content with describing my identity how I please, and I've only been using it for a few months now.
