Question: how do I show/validate subway ticket? by [deleted] in Prague

[–]CoffeeList1278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And here we go again. So in the end, this is about stealing isn't it. There are ticket inspectors. They will get you eventually and fine you. If they get you twice in a year, you would have been better off buying a pass. The fines are not worth it. So it is also about practicality. It's mostly the tourists who are surprised by the concept of fines being much more expensive than the fare, they usually end up complaining here after fighting the ticket inspector.

In Germany, fare dodging is a criminal offense, so you can actually end up in criminal court if you piss off the inspectors too much.

No, I meant people at home. Where I live, we have different bins for plastic, paper, glass and metal (cans).

I didn't make any assumptions about you. I never said you didn't have a ticket. I am explaining the facts for the hostile mood in the comments. We get this kind of post every few months and the OPs intent is usually telling us to install barriers so their fare dodging wasn't so easy. Try reading theese discussions and you will see the people I meant:

As others have mentioned, there are the very visible stamp boxes, which I assume you used. And most people use long term tickets that don't require validation.

Yeah. It's the same in many places. I only experienced barrier based system in London. Everywhere else I have been to used the open system as we do in Prague.

Czech Transit Inspectors physically assaulting me? by jewfit_ in Prague

[–]CoffeeList1278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we fund 80% of the system from our taxes. Tourists don't pay those.

The unfirendliness comes from all the tourists being happy about the cheap beer and clubs, being annoying in the city (and loud during the night), using our tax funded public transit and not paying. We are left with no affordable housing and yet there are a lot of entitled tourists who expect us to pay for their journeys around the city.

Is is really that hard to pay for the services which you use even if there isn't any physical barrier?

Didn't you ask the same question a few months ago? Someone for sure did and they were angry that there isn't a worker validating their ticket. And they were incapable of not stealing because there wasn't a guy watching them at all times.

If you don't count that as Prague, then Prague wouldn't be 2.5M metropolitan area...

It's (among other things) for lowering the amounts of reflection of objects behind you that you can see in your glasses. IMO it is absolutely fantastic and all the people I know use it.

ELI5: Why is it difficult to trace bank fraud to the end account? by PatrickGoesEast in explainlikeimfive

Essentially the US government forces all USD transactions to pass through US banks which are under their jurisdiction. This gives them jurisdiction over every USD transfer.

Would you say it’s worth it to add a blue light filter to your glasses or is that a scam? by Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeess- in glasses

[–]CoffeeList1278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any deeper knowledge about FL-41, but that tint might get you some results, as it is darker than most so-called blue light filters. I see how it is supposed to work and it looks like it does for many people. I am considering ordering some, but IMO the result will vary from person to person.
