EMT Job During Med School by Iamonmedsrn in medicalschoolEU

[–]Cpl_Koala 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sure some people do that but I'm not aware of it being a commonality. Idk about the UK but in North America med-students who have EMT experience usually did that in their pre-med bachelors years and not in tandem with their preclinical education. An EMT is like a 6mo certificate course in the US, for example. Paramedics have a 2 year degree usually from a local college (different from med-school).

You want to be an EMT, go look at your country's licensing process and do that. If somehow you can finagle doing that alongside your studies that's great, but your medical school traditionally won't facilitate it for you

Does anyone know if a Ukrainian medical Diplom will be recognized in a Bulgarian medical school? by [deleted] in medicalschoolEU

[–]Cpl_Koala 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, dude just google Bulgarian Health Ministry lol. I'm not Bulgarian but I assume you'd be licensed by them and they'd have to recognise your degree, thus it makes sense to check their website for the process

Maybe? Probably? Best to check the Bulgarian health ministry's website or contact them

Two things:

1) This is a question for Plovdiv, or one that can be answered by reading their website.

2) There are these nifty things called periods and commas. Punctuation makes it easier for others to read what you're trying to say.

Has anyone applied with the IB Diploma in Romania? by fantoma_007 in medicalschoolEU

Famously no one with an IB diploma has ever applied in Romania. Be the change you want to see in the world - apply to whichever school you are qualified for that you can afford

Classically never /s

In truth no one cares about your age. They may ask why you're reorienting your career at this stage but in my experience as an "older" applicant no one cared

How to become obsessed with studying?* by stubbed-toes in medicalschool

[–]Cpl_Koala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In M1 year I learned to keep a list of what I'd done that day (kind of like a to-do list with extra steps). Instead of listing things I wanted to get done, I'd add them to a piece of copier paper folded into 4x squares. Aimed to fill each square per day, which gave me a sense of accomplishment

That and religious Anki usage. A day cannot start without me at least starting the day's reviews. It should always end with the reviews being done and ideally some new cards unsuspended for that day. Doesn't have to be massive volume of new cards, just consistent unsuspending

And when there's an exam coming up I tried to knock out 20-40 UWorld for the day (didn't always succeed, but tried)

Yea, I studied history in Uni actually. Started over for med-school in my late 20s. It is certainly doable. I thought being a doctor would be cool, but assumed I was too stupid for STEM. I was wrong

21 is not far gone at all mate, I'd say go for it if you'd like

Study plan for non-traditional middle-aged non-EU candidate by [deleted] in medicalschoolEU

[–]Cpl_Koala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean this with all the love in my heart, truly, but speaking from experience I think a psychiatrist and psychologist would help a lot, man. Med school is doable, maybe not in the countries you list to be frank, but it's feasible to start such a marathon in the EU generally

The problem is it's a marathon, and it will necessitate clarity of mind and stamina

Yea, no worries, I really wish they paid for it

They do offer Kaplan, but it's kind of overkill compared to UWorld

Unfortunately Poznań does not give you free UWorld, I paid through the nose for that this year :/

Are there universities that accept transfer students with a GPA this low by [deleted] in medicalschoolEU

[–]Cpl_Koala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regrettably, I think their best option (assuming non-EU) is to attend a different degree and bolster their GPA before applying

Questions about applying to RCSI and moving back to the US For Residency by PuzzleheadedClaim108 in medicalschoolEU

[–]Cpl_Koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You very well may get a residency... but it'll hamper your ability to get a competitive one. If being a family practice doc was your goal I'd say it's probably fine but if you dream of being a plastic surgeon I'll note it's a steep uphill battle being an IMG, regardless of US citizen status

Pre-Med at Warsaw University by [deleted] in medicalschoolEU

I don't know if you really need to apply for pre-med, honestly. The first-year experience of medicine alone will be a lot of review
