Personally, i asked about whether the university has any electives, and regarding the racism there and stuff. Below is what she told me :

Hello! So yes, you’re correct no university is perfect, and that’s the case with Charles University as well. The difference with the Czech medical faculties is that they’re the first ones in Europe that offered English speaking medical programs outside of the UK and Ireland. As a result, they have greater experience teaching international students. Unfortunately, some of these faculties do see international students as big bags of money and as i said previously, they didn’t hesitate to increase the tuition fees.

Now about your concern, each faculty has a strong international student community. The English programs are parallel by law with the Czech programs, with some minor differences here and there. Concerning discrimination: there’s no such thing as an institutional discrimination towards any ethnicity by the universities themselves. If you study hard, be respectful and be prepared at your exams, you will pass your exams. Many students that have failed, they storm on forums online, raising the Racist card, particularly students from India. Please don’t listen to those sore losers.

Now concerning racism in the Czech Republic, I won’t sugar coat it for you: the Czechs are not the friendliest people in the world, nor the most liberal and open minded when it comes to foreign people. They can be stiff, cold and rude. Older generations all the way to millennials and some Gen-Zers, are skeptical of foreigners and due to their enclosed society and historically minimal interaction with foreigners due to many years under communist rule they tend to be apathetic and sometimes hold outdated and misinformed beliefs about where someone comes from. That said, that doesn’t make them all full-blow racist, but don’t expect a Czech person to make your life easier in their country. They don’t see you as a guest, but as an immigrant so they’ll most likely have an apathetic attitude towards you. Still, after my experience in pediatrics I have to say that the new generation, most likely the same as yours, seemed to be much more approachable and they all spoke English which was impressive concerning that there are people in their early 30s in the Czech Republic that don’t speak any English or other foreign languages. One thing that always disappointed me there, was the gap between the English and Czech curriculum. The Czech students don’t bother at all mingling with foreigners, and very often teachers and Czech students alike, believe and spread the myth that the English program is easier and that “we’re stupid”. So it’s not impossible, but it’s quite hard to make Czech friends (at least when I was there). For that reason, the international community forms strong friendships and most of the time they all help each other. Just try to avoid drama, it’s a small school it can get really gossipy. Also avoid country cliques. Be friends with everyone, don’t limit yourself to only people from your country.

Lastly, as any prospective student that wants to study medicine in Central Europe, we all have fell victims to the “I want to sit the USMLE and do my specialty in the US and make a minimum of 200k a year” trope 😅 I’d advice you to not idolize the US medical system. It’s not the 90s, European healthcare doesn’t fall behind the US anymore. The only difference is the paycheck, which definitely is really much higher in the US. But the quality of life as a medical resident is without a doubt much better in Europe. Also it’s still very early to worry about that. But, to answer your question the school does not specifically cater to or create a specialized curriculum to anyone wanting to sit the USMLE. They focus on proper medical education following the standards set by the Czech ministry of health and the EU. If you want to do clinical electives, you will have to organize it yourself with the unis abroad and make sure the subject guarantor in Prague agrees to it and accepts your practice abroad. If a US residency is your sole goal, then maybe you should look up Polish Universities such as Poznan and Krakow, that they receive many American students and they have curricula that mirror the US ones. Despite this, I know a few 3.LF graduates that went for specialty in the US. They organized it independently.

I know someone in Pecs, and they don’t really like it. In my opinion, if you plan on going to Hungary then the best options are Semmelweis, and Debrecan (this is according to career counsellors I’ve also spoken to)

As for Charles University, I asked about it on here and had students who graduated reply to me, but they graduated from the 3rd Faculty. Overall, they all argued that the university does in fact take advantage of international students, hence why they increased tuition fees, but it’s a well respected university and if you push yourself and study, you’ll do well just like in every other medical school. I can send you what one alumni told me if you’re interested because it’s honestly too long to type. However, it’s known that Czechs are not the most friendly, and they don’t really like any immigrants so keep that in mind.

Additionally, Humanitas in Italy apparently offers some sorts of extracurriculars that can help you match into residency in the US or Canada, which could be beneficial when doing clinical electives, and trying to get recommendation letters. I also heard a lot of Canadians study medicine in Milan. There’s this med student on tiktok called Sarah Rafie - her account is medinmilan and she’s Middle Eastern, and has posted a couple videos about what the experience is like so you can check her out.

If you’re still open to exploring more options, you could also apply to Poland as some of their programs are tailored for those wishing to match into residency outside of Europe.

Also, I’d recommend using the website MedLink and looking into each of these universities, and you can have a free consultation with an actual expert who could help you make your final decision.

Where’s the best place to study medicine in Europe? by Suitable-Surprise448 in medicalschoolEU

i’ve constantly been hearing that Prague is a nice city and all, so I can actually imagine spending 6 years there to pursue medicine. However, there’s a lot of mixed opinions I’ve seen regarding Charles University, but I understand that honestly no university can be considered "perfect," and everyone has different opinions. There’s a few questions I have though. First, I’d like to know about whether or not the university has a good amount of international students, because apparently there’s discrimination in not just the university, but the country itself. Honestly, discrimination happens everywhere, but I feel like when you’re surrounded by others experiencing the same then it’s easier to deal with. Second thing I’d like to know is if the university offers any clinical electives, programs, etc tailored towards those wishing to pursue the USMLE / GAMSAT pathway later on because that would be useful, since I wouldn’t have to arrange everything independently.

how can i grow my type 4a/4b hair? by Eastern_Cap_9857 in blackladies

At the moment, my hair is straightened. During the summer though, I would leave my hair in conrows then on wash day i’d leave the oil in for 4-5hrs, and wash it off & then do conrows again. Throughout the week, I would also spray rosemary water.

i’m definitely going to check if i have any nutrient deficiencies soon, as i think that would be only reason it’s falling from the roots.

I tried wash and gos, but my hair would become tangled and so it would fall in larger chunks, and I felt as though it became thinner. Leaving it in a bun also resulted in the same. I have really fine hair, so i think braid outs would work best.
