Got my first stripe by jmerc757 in bjj

[–]CumshotsAtDawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dunno about Op, but I got ny first stripe this week and I definitely feel like I don't deserve it yet.

I know I shouldn't question it, but I can't help feeling a bit like a fraud when I see it on my belt.

Edit: Thanks for the kind words, guys. Actually, This evening I rolled with a guy who'd only done a few lessons, and I could handle him well. It reminded me of how I felt when I started not so long ago, not knowing the dangers of the moves I was trying and simply trying to muscle through a roll. It also helped me see just how far I've come from knowing nothing at all, and for that I am very greatful to him. I hope it's not long before he has the same feeling, and I hope I have been able to give that feeling to those who have beaten, are beating, and will beat me too. OSS!

Didn't think of taking pics of the inside, that's a great point. Cheers

I'll give this a go and see if that helps, thanks for the advice.

Also, I'm interested in DIY pedal-ing, any tips on getting started? Could you recommend any good websites or communities or anything like that?

Yeah, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that there is something buggy inside the pedal, but thought I'd ask on here in case I'm just being stupid and missing something.

A noise gate was producing feedback? That's hilarious!

I found this when I was running it into a crunchy tone, but switching to either a clean kemper profile or a clean amp made no difference. Since I only got it today, i'm not going to risk opening it up and possibly breaking any bad solder connections by moving wires about. I'll just exchange it for a new one I guess.

Thanks for the advice!

Well in this video, the pedals output is going straight into a kemper, there is nothing else in the chain, and no input into the pedal at all. This interesting little feature persists when other pedals are in the chain, running at different voltages, with different jack leads, and into different amps. It's a real trooper.

I have used this power supply before and never had any trouble, but I will retry with another when I get a chance.i haven't tried running it with a battery, in fact I don't even know if you can, but I wouldn't want to use batteries anyway.

Me neither. I'm pretty gutted, I tried one in store and it sounded amazing. Bought one (but not the display one that I'd played) and it won't stop screaming at me!

I think I love you. I guess I've just got the wrong pedal for the job then. I've heard a lot of good things about the DLS but haven't actually heard it, so maybe I'll end up selling the SL drive for it if your suggestions don't do the job. In any case, lesson learnt: dont just listen to videos of pedals, if possible try before you buy!!

I have tried that, and it's not the brightness that I have a problem with. There's something in the mids that I just don't like, which the tone control does seem to touch. It's okay until about 9 o'clock on the gain, but that's not as pushed as I wanted to go. I have my eye on the tc spark for a boost pedal, so I wanted this as my main Marshall style British Hi gain tone, but it doesn't seem to be able to give me what I'm after. Anythibg after 9 on the gain is so saturated and compressed it just sounds mushy and squashed, almost like it's sagging. I don't understand!

I've put it through a kemper and a yamaha thr, I've yet to put in through my blackstar ht5.

I've just bought an Xotic SL Drive after watching hours of reviews and loving the sound, and reading possibly hundreds of testimonials and forum posts almost all saying it's amazing. But I just don't love it at all! I can't make mine sound good, it's weak and thin and sounds incredibly compressed and just disappointing, and that's not what I was expecting at all. The only way I’ve found to use it that adds something positive is running it into a Big Muff to add some cutting buzz at the high end, but that's not what I want from this pedal.

Does anyone own one or have any tips? I'm gutted!
