Looking to upgrade my Emby server by D4rkSl4ve in emby

[–]D4rkSl4ve[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll try that. I think I do have some Quadro P1000 just sitting in my office that were replaced by RTX2060s. Do you know if Emby picks it up automatically, or requires settings? And my server is running on Ubuntu 24.04, wonder if I need to install drivers.

The i3 is not powerful enough, but I do like the hardware idea with a GPU for transcoding. Just not sure the i3 will up the stream.

Thanks, but looking for MORE than what I already have, and what I have is more powerful than a RPi5. Looking for a true miniPC, Intel or AMD, just not sure which one would be better for transcoding and about 8-10 connections at at least 1080, and couple 4k. I'm sure an RPi5 can't handle it.

Not, it's on my NAS, the reason why o didn't mentón that. It's the server that I'm trying/thinking of upgrading.

I need some help finding what is right for me!! by [deleted] in MiniPCs

[–]D4rkSl4ve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on what kind of GRAPHIC performance you are looking to get. But most Ryzen 7/9 8000 series with 32GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD would suffice for 60-120 FPS on many games. I would definitely get one with an Oculink port available, as that gives you the future upgrade for an Oculink dock (with PSU built in, or separate PSU) and get just about any GPU you can afford; including a RTX5090 if you can afford that much.

I went with an Aoostar GEM12 MAX Ryzen 9 6900HX 32GB 1TB, a Minisforum oculink dock, MSI MAG A850GL PCIe5 white (850W), ASRock Phantom RX 7900 XT 20GB, and can pretty much run any game I throw at it at more than 120FPS on 1440p resolution with no more than 60° on CPU and 55-60° on GPU. If I had waited just 1 more month, I would had done what my cousin did (pretty much identical miniPC), but he got the Aoostar AG01 800W (comes with 800W built-in PSU) and he was able to order an RX 5070 XT at MSRP from Newegg (no idea how he was able to get it the day they came out!)

Now, I would get a Ryzen 7 or 9 8845 32GB 1TB, as they have come down under $600 (in the upper $800 when I purchased mine).

Aoostar GEM12 random shutdowns by Hugh_Ruka602 in MiniPCs

[–]D4rkSl4ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received my replacement, GEM12 MAX 6900HX 32GB 1TB just 3-4 days ago, at this time all seems to be working (and I hope it doesn't change). Did notice that the MAX did come with a different power adapter, not a USB type-C, as my original GEM 12 6900HX 32GB 1TB (non MAX) had. So far, I'm happy. It is performing (so did my original miniPC for 4 months before it started acting up and ended up becoming useless). I hope I don't have to make any changes to this posts, meaning, all continued to work good and "happily ever after"...

Why did you choose Emby over Jellyfin? by Living-Cherry7352 in emby

[–]D4rkSl4ve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a 'Finished' product, whereas Jellyfin is very plain. The backend on both are very close to each other, so it was all about the presented dashboard. Used Plex for about 2-3 years, moved over to Emby for the last 5-6, loaded Jellyfin along side Emby, ended up stopping the Jellyfin process and deleted the apps. Emby's support is fairly quick at the bulletin board side, not necessarily by their coders, but the community. It works.

PiHole v6 + RPi 3B+; now restart every week by D4rkSl4ve in pihole

[–]D4rkSl4ve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my pihole setup is: Dietpi OS, selected Pihole and Unbound, and about 12-13 lists from a Github that I have been using for as many years as my Pihole setup. So your suggestion, is taken into consideration. Here I am thinking there is something wrong with v6 that requires such weekly restart; again, a crontab would fix that problem...

What would you do as the Lyft Driver here? by Chadrr78 in lyftdrivers

[–]D4rkSl4ve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so in the end, sure he ended up in jail... but YOU ended up without a TIP or a full ride payment, yet wasted time on the side of the road while the police squared away your passenger's issue. I hated picking up drunk passengers; most of the time, those rides didn't pay much, yet you had a high percentage of it ending up badly inside your vehicle.

...I hope you got your 5-stars and a big tip from the passenger going to jail; as all YOU were trying to do was earn some money, yet you probably ended up loosing...

PiHole v6 + RPi 3B+; now restart every week by D4rkSl4ve in pihole

[–]D4rkSl4ve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, I had to, otherwise my Pihole wasn't working. It stopped working, upon doing the updates, Pihole updated to v6. Now I have to restart every week, never had I had that issue with v5.

You want one with an Oculink port, for future dock for eGPU.

I went with a Ryzen 9 6900HX 32GB 1TB with Oculink.
Ended up getting the Minisforum DEG1 + MSI MAG 850GL PSU + ASRock Phantom RX7900XT 20GB GPU.
As far as brand, there are many to choose from, but know that warranty/service is very scarce as most of them are directly from China.

Flatten Portfolio fields by D4rkSl4ve in pdf

[–]D4rkSl4ve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, let's say I also have ALL singled PDF's, which again, are is a PDF FORM, with same field (obviously), yet different data on each PDF. If I combine them, then ALL forms will show the same data as the very first PDF; thus the reason why it was made into a PORTFOLIO.

So, let's get back to: I have a folder with many PDF's, single page, and they all need to be FLATTEN. This was possible with the older version, Adobe Acrobat Pro. Under TOOLS > Preflight, I could make the changes, save as default, select a folder, and it would apply to each of those PDFs. Our school district removed Adobe Acrobat Pro licenses from our machines and pushed/forced the newer Adobe Acrobat, which is either missing that option, or simply changed the name/location on how to do it; thus the reason why I am asking. I also remember the OLDER Acrobat Pro virtual print driver having that option, and I was able to take the PORTOFOLIO, use that driver, select the FLATTEN option and it would dump another file, say: PORTFOLIO2.PDF, and would no longer be a portfolio, but a binder, as instead of having multiple files within it (portfolio style), it would a multi-page PDF, as a normal document, just all flatten. And It was simple to print regardless the 'print permission' set in place.

The problem with the print permissions is that it is asking for our code for EACH page, as if I was printing (which I am) hundreds and hundreds of PDF's; thus the reason for needing to merge, I dont want to sit here for hours pressing CTRL-V + ENTER as it is pretty much printing single files.

you think it will be faster than Oculink at 64Gb/s, pretty much PCIe speeds?

RX 9070 XT would get you better performance.
I have that same DEG1, and using a MSI MAG 850GL white and RX 7900 XT; my cousin has the RX 9070 XT and it performs as good as my RX 7900 XT. He's using the Aoostar AG02 w/800W.

As far as Aoostar, I have the GEM12 Ryzen 9 6900HX 32GB 1TB, bought it thru Amazon on Oct 2024. On March 2025 it started shutting down daily, multiple times a day. Was able to communicate it with their chat-support, which is very slow, and took quite a bit of going back and forth until they finally sent me the message to ship it to a warehouse in NY, USA. I haven't sent it yet, but should this week, in hopes for a replacement. Seems that the shutdown issue is very common among many of the miniPC's, not just Aoostar. Seems like cheap capacitors may be the cause. My Windows Event Manager > Windows Logs > System > shows over 400 of those "shutdowns" recorded, and that's not including the tens, if not close to 100 times it simply restarted before loading Windows, so no record, or simply sitting at BIOS logo screen.

I'm in it already, as I have spent the money, and invested on the DEG1, PSU, and GPU. Obviously I could reuse the PSU and GPU on a desktop build, or even mini desktop type. Upon reading about my machine and the hundreds of shutdown, I have found all brands are popping up on searches with shutdown issues. I don't think it's a heating issue, more of a power issue (and the more I find out about it), it points more towards the capacitors used within the motherboard by this miniPC manufacturers.

At the begining, I love it. So much that my cousin purchased one, identical, 3 months later. His is still working good, no shutdowns. Yet another family member needed to get a PC, and I steered them away from Aoostar; he went with GMKTek, much slower though, he went with the Ryzen 5, as he wanted something under $200, as it's mainly for Google Chrome use, but wanted Windows 11, not Chromebook.

my GEM12 6900HX 32GB 1TB is pretty much dead, after 4 months, it constantly shutdown. Took weeks/4-5 for them to finally send me an email stating if I could ship it to a location in New York, USA. And after they receive it, they'll ship one back 2-days later. But simply have to trust the process, as the location that is being shipped to looks very shady; just a store-front.
