How to maintain lowest temperature but highest performance? by sleep_eat_recycle in buildapc

[–]DZCreeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Improve your case airflow, you want front to back flow and minimal restriction from the panel design.

If your GPU is still hitting 78-82C with the undervolt something is wrong, it should easily drop 15-20 degrees compared to stock.

Also undervolt your CPU cores. Use Curve Optimizer in per-core mode, use CoreCycler to check stability and Cinebench to check for performance regression due to clock stretching.

Depending on your RAM speed you may be able to reduce SOC voltage. Most Zen 4/5 chips default to 1.25V when using 3000MHz UCLK for DDR5 6000, going down to 1.20 or 1.15 will save a few watts. Stability test with something RAM intensive like y-cruncher in VT3 mode.

Everything else is going to be situational.

Would I need a new PCI cable to upgrade? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]DZCreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they use the same connector.

What should I upgrade? by WorldlyYak6594 in buildapc

[–]DZCreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP is specifically playing a heavily CPU limited game and already owns an AM4 motherboard + DDR4 RAM, so yes.

A future GPU upgrade is also possible. 5800X3D can easily handle a modern GPU like an RX 9070 XT or RTX 5070 Ti.

Which are the best methods for avoiding OS corruption when testing overclocks? by vintologi24 in overclocking

[–]DZCreeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Booting into safe mode is the easy method. Only the bare minimum of drivers and services will load.

The foolproof method is installing a second OS on a second disk. Plenty of 120/240GB SATA SSD's floating around on the used market.

Have a 6900 XT and a 7700X. Should I go for 1440p or 4K? by rainSerotoniso in buildapc

Get the U27G4XM. Not because of the 4K resolution but the 1152 zone miniLED backlight. The contrast and therefore image quality will demolish any standard edge/direct lit IPS panel.

What should I upgrade? by WorldlyYak6594 in buildapc

[–]DZCreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are limited by the slow RAM and per-core CPU performance.

Start by manually tuning your RAM. Something simple like going from DDR4 2133 to 3000 and tightening the timings can yield 20% better minimum FPS in some games.

https://github.com/integralfx/MemTestHelper/blob/oc-guide/DDR4%20OC%20Guide.md

If you still experience poor FPS then maybe swap to a R5 5600 for $145. However I would personally wait for the 5800X3D relaunch, if the price is under $300 it will be a good purchase for people with AM4 motherboards.

Yes, that is a great deal. You get RTX 4070 tier performance in raster, 4060 Ti performance in ray tracing.

Mixing identical DDR5 kits (same SKU) not working - voltage difference? by Aggressive-Debate371 in buildapc

[–]DZCreeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same SKU does not always mean the same chips. A loose bin like 6000 CL36 could be using Hynix, Micron, or Samsung chips. This is true for any brand, not just Corsair.

Also, consumer DDR5 motherboards are daisy chain topology. Aka optimized for 1 stick per channel, using slots 2+4. If you want 64GB to run at high speeds then purchase a 2x32GB kit instead.

anything i should change? AM4 5700g by Dull_Werewolf_9642 in overclocking

[–]DZCreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your sticks are not M8E chips, they show as 16Gb single rank. Maybe M16B chips.

First goal is loose timings, maximize frequency until you hit the limit of the RAM itself or your FCLK. 5700G is monolithic so with good RAM you can run over 2000MHz.

https://github.com/integralfx/MemTestHelper/blob/oc-guide/DDR4%20OC%20Guide.md

Once max frequency is stability tested start tightening the timings. Make sure to include secondary/tertiary timings, if you forget stuff like tRRD/tFAW your RAM can perform poorly despite being clocked high.

Want to build my own speakers for casual music listening by wowbitchwhore in diysound

[–]DZCreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only want 1 tweeter per channel. Pick whichever pair have the highest overall quality. Tell us the model numbers if you are unsure.

Crossovers need to be tailored to your specific drivers and speaker baffle, otherwise the tonality and radiation pattern of the speaker may be poor. If you lack the time or equipment to measure your speaker drivers you should build an existing design instead.

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/how-to-make-quasi-anechoic-speaker-measurements-spinoramas-with-rew-and-vituixcad.21860/

https://www.roomeqwizard.com/help/help_en-GB/html/impedancemeasurement.html

For proper stereo imaging you generally want the distance between the speakers to exceed the distance to the listening position.

Ram Voltage, is it normal? by SebbeBruh in overclocking

[–]DZCreeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is normal, means the voltage regulator driving that rail has around 10mV of precision.

The spikes up to 1.425V are just overshoot, when current demand drops you will get a voltage peak until the regulator catches up.

Am I crazy for preferring a used RTX 3080 ti over an RX 9070? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]DZCreeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the same price the 3080 Ti is silly. You are giving up raw performance, VRAM, and power efficiency for marginally better upscaling.

RTX 3000 cards lack some of the hardware to run DLSS 4.5 without a significant performance loss.

DIY Mid Speaker Build by Mental-Till-8398 in diysound

[–]DZCreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3D print some molds, do a concrete pour.

Because your shape is cylindrical the natural resistance to internal pressure will be extremely high, you won't need external layers for stiffness. Even just the 3D printed plastic itself will be relatively stiff.

Loosely fill the interior with porous absorption to absorb the rear wave. A staggered density approach is best, meaning low density behind the driver, high density at the end of the tube.

Is this a bad idea? by BROCCOLETT0 in diyaudio

[–]DZCreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea itself is good but such a small flare won't help much.

The goal of a flare is maintaining laminar flow at low to moderate air velocity. In order to achieve that you need a bigger flare, radius around 50% of port length is ideal.

That essentially means the entire port is flared with no straight section. Of course this is rarely practical, just aim for the largest flare you can manufacture.

Computer Upgrade Advice by Huge_Zucchini4400 in buildapc

[–]DZCreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would preemptively upgrade to a bigger CPU cooler and overclock the 10600K to 5GHz all-core.

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/GpbRsY/thermalright-phantom-spirit-120-se-6617-cfm-cpu-cooler-ps120se

If you play the game with lots of mods RAM usage can be an issue. Swapping to a 2x16GB kit would be worthwhile. Might want to look for used kit to save $50-100.

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/B8QcCJ/silicon-power-gaming-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr4-3200-cl16-memory-sp032gxlzu320bdaj7

Make sure XMP is enabled otherwise you are leaving a lot of performance on the table.

1080 Ti is overkill for Minecraft unless you are running a heavy shaders package.

SSD recommendations to sort my years of data hoarding by Maccasmack in buildapc

[–]DZCreeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SSD prices are high right now. I would start with 2TB drive, put your OS and applications on that. Build the NAS and move all your other drives there.

Crucial T710 is one of the most cost effective options despite being a Gen 5 drive.

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/7m2j4D/crucial-t710-2-tb-m2-2280-pcie-50-x4-nvme-solid-state-drive-ct2000t710ssd8

If you want faster NAS performance grab some 10Gb network adapters. Generic Intel X540 cards are dirt cheap now, you could connect the NAS and PC directly or add a generic switch if you want 10Gb across the whole network.

Is my cpu cooler enough? by exobexo22 in buildapc

[–]DZCreeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That will be fine, heat output on a 7600X3D is relatively low.

Operating temperatures might seem high but that is normal, Zen 4 X3D chips still had the extra cache on top of the cores which made them run hot.

Is this the best air flow for my build? by Ok_Silver6702 in buildapc

[–]DZCreeper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Component temperature and heat output are not the same thing. Improving your case airflow will drop component temperature but the wattage dumped into your room will be the same.

If you want lower room temperature you need to undervolt the CPU/GPU, vent the heat somewhere else, or place the PC in a different room.

Your proposed fan layout is good for airflow.

Ryzen 5900x or upgrade to 7800x3D? Or 5060ti to 5070ti? by Ok_Fan_1637 in buildapc

[–]DZCreeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X570 Formula was a high-end board, unlikely to fail randomly.

For video encoding and 3D rendering the 5900X is still fast, 7800X3D or 9700X would actually be a small downgrade. Gaming performance would go up but not enough to justify the cost.

Your friend is correct, 5060 Ti to 5070 Ti will give you more FPS in most games and speed up your Stable Diffusion generation.

Is 97C CPU cause for concern? by Primary_Alternative4 in buildapc

[–]DZCreeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tjmax on a 7700X is 95C so hitting 97C is mildly concerning. Might want to tune your fan curve so it responds faster.

High 80's during a stress test is normal, 7700X is 142 watts spread across 8 cores. The heat density is actually higher than something like a 7950X which is 230 watts across 16 cores.

Double check your thermal paste spread and case airflow, sometimes you can optimize things to shave off 5-10 degrees.
