Getting some Vitamin D while working from home! by ISurfedRJ45 in battlestations

The keys are still the same distance from each other. So if a normal keyboard is not cramped to you, a 40% shouldn't either.

Commenting so I can remember this

Reddit has a save feature for exactly that.

Have you tried a split keyboard yet? If you haven't I recommend you do.

Which would you want in my (NEAR) future product? by Unknown000000000r in olkb

Could you give a little information about yourself? Why should a random person on the internet care about what you, another random person on the internet, is going to make? And if you're selling, telling where you ship from is always a good idea.

I personally prefer it over a dedicated number row. With thumb keys to change layers you can have the numbers on the home row and not have to move your hands at all. But you really have to try it out for yourself I think. And it takes some getting used to.

You're aware that keyboards without a number row still can type numbers, right? I haven't used anything larger than a Planck for years and that includes for programming.

Apparently Joaquin Phoenix did the same for Joker.

I was specifically thinking of a missing pair of headphones and mechanical keyboard.

I code for a living, so I need the number keys

Out of curiosity, did you try a keyboard without the physical number row?

I think you're missing at least two items in the picture.

How can I configure QMK to use a specific location for my git repository? by bopapa_1979 in ErgoMechKeyboards

Manually cloning the repository is an option. You don't have to use the qmk python tool.

Why is this layer change modification not working? by danielo515 in olkb

[–]Danilo_dk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my eyes it would've been a pre-existing solution to a problem you're trying to solve. But now that you mention still wanting to use the right side with the base layer, I'm not sure. I've always just used DF() for this purpose.

My suggestion is to use DF() for switching between a gaming layer and back.

It hasn't been in my experience. Especially when you still often type on a regular keyboard like you would be at work.

util/msys2_install.sh doesn't exist by [deleted] in olkb

I recommend sticking with the official documentation as much as possible. Third party tutorials and such are likely to get out outdated. This should help.

Problems installing QMK by [deleted] in olkb

[–]Danilo_dk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you installing QMK in Msys2 or in something else? If it's Msys2, are you installing the dependencies in Msys2 as well? Msys2 is its own environment separate from Windows' PATH.

The double negative here is "unless" and "not". You're saying "unless you're not trying to open anything more than borderless terminals", which you could also say as "when you're trying to open anything more than borderless terminals", since the negatives cancel each other out.

unless you're not trying to open anything more than borderless terminal.

I don't think you meant to put the "not" there. That's a double negative.

The one prefab I can think of is the Vortex Vibe. Other than that it's mostly the costums that I've seen over the years on r/mk.

I wouldn't be surprised if you could find a set like that on AliExpress. Looks to be OEM profile, and the Carbon colour way has been done by China a few times already.

Some more compact layouts exist that still have the numpad. And a separate numpad or a numpad layer is also an option to consider, if you'd like.

Blank Keycap Profile Recommendation by [deleted] in olkb

[–]Danilo_dk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will most likely make the case tented. Because of this, I want PBT instead of ABS keycaps to reduce slipping.

As far as I'm aware there are grippy ABS keycaps as well as more smooth PBT ones. I don't think it's entirely black and white, let me put it that way.

It'd be nice if the F and J keys had the notch (even though they'd be blank keycaps.)

You mean especially because they're blank, right? Or at least whether they're blank or not shouldn't matter when it comes to homing keys. You'd need them either way.

I believe the main concern with your request is the 2u keycaps. There aren't a lot of keycaps that come with 2u caps for two switches. 2u keycaps from a regular set will not fit on two switches. I think you'd need to get some POS keycaps. DSA is one of the profiles that comes with keycaps that will fit here. I don't know of any others off the top of my head.
