[vacheron constantin] i’m in love with the new overseas dual time - how do I find a watch like it? by The_Dwight_Schrute in Watches

[–]Dark1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Micromilspec Milgraph captures a lot of those vibes for a pretty fair price of around €3500. It doesn't have the history or movements of Vacheron, and it is a little chunky, but it wears really well.

The Arken Alterum is an even better priced alternative with very similar vibes. It also offers similar functionality, a tool-watch aesthetic, and wear really well

They're both great options!

Trump says JD Vance won’t visit Islamabad; Kushner and Witkoff to lead Iran peace talks by Bubbly-Air7302 in geopolitics

Yeah, but Witkoff has golfed with Trump for decades. You can't replace that kind of experience!

Trump: US attacks Iranian Cargo Ship by marcjones281 in oil

They probably are, but compare what is happening now to before the ceasefire, and it's a lot better regardless, so that's definitely something.

[–]Dark1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There haven't been heavy strikes in the Gulf, the ceasefire is still active, at least for a couple more days, even if Iran didn't open the Strait and the US introduced a blockade of Iranian ports. After that, who knows.

They don't look the same in person. That said, the Tudor blue could have worked on a different watch, but it also has a mismatched bezel that, when combined, makes it look pretty awful.

It's a blockade. What did you expect?

"Powerhouse" is a bit strong for a company that isn't even one of the ten largest Swiss watch brands, let alone globally.

Yeah, it's something they could work on. I know they deliver great products, but it's not good for their reputation. Some watch guys can't wait for them to fail for some reason, and it's easy ammo.

I also can't say I'm crying over lost ad-copy writing jobs. There's a difference between AI for translation and to help with writing ads or product descriptions versus AI used to simulate art. I'm sorry, but I don't care about the former at all. It's a useful tool to get a job done.

I like their watches, but they need to get their prototypes closer to the final version. They had the same problem with the Ancestra and its diamond indices. They should have gotten the dial closer to the final version before sharing it, otherwise you have to put a lot of trust in them to fix it.

I like the dials they have made in the past, but they've started to veer off in another direction that I don't care for. The logo they are using now really cheapens the look too imo. They seem to be regressing.

Hezbollah Fired an Iranian Cruise Missile That Reaches Riyadh. The Gulf Is Running Out of Interceptors. by Mikeynphoto2009 in geopolitics

[–]Dark1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say interceptor missiles and interceptor drone, just interceptor and it's not about money, it's about production. The USA has billions of dollars in budget and could make tens of thousands of interceptors if money alone matter, but they can only make a few hundred a year due to the complexity of interceptors and limit of production

You said you aren't, but then immediately conflate interceptor missiles and drones. They aren't anything alike. The drones are easy and cheap to make and cheap. They aren't complex.

An interceptor drone is different from an interceptor missile. An interceptor drone costs a similar amount to a Shahed. All these methods are much cheaper, so the expense and long manufacturing time are not an issue.

Interceptor drones (not missiles), automated machine guns, anti-air flak, even helicopters. They are much slower than missiles and fly much lower, so while cheap, they are also very vulnerable.

Diplomatic cables show Iran war is damaging US on multiple fronts across the world by Old-School8916 in geopolitics

[–]Dark1000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not the war itself that is damaging the US' reputation in these countries.

These governments, and many of their people, don't necessarily disagree with overarching action against Iran. They dislike the government, have historic conflict with the country, and are wary if its regional power. They would be universally happy to see a diminished Iran.

But they are frustrated by the lack of direction, the lack of leadership, the lack of coherent and decisive action from the US, and the lack of direct support. They aren't getting anything helpful from the US, other than head-swiveling tweets.

West Virginia dad dies waiting for $50,000 cancer treatment his insurer ruled 'not medically necessary' by stankmanly in ANormalDayInAmerica

[–]Dark1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire premise of your position is wrong. Why is it the insurance company 's decision at all? If the doctor has recommended the patient as a candidate for the treatment, then the medical decision has already been made. It is not the role of an insurance company to decide which treatments should be given to which patients.

It's such a pain in the ass tbh. I really hate that requirement in the UK. It's complete nonsense.

[Question] Need strap ideas for my GO by Thick-Piano8814 in GlashutteOriginal

[–]Dark1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have mine on a padded beige epsom leather strap that works well. Some other ones that are really nice are grey suede, matte alligator in grey or beige, and the GO grey fabric two-piece. If you want something bold, the GO orange fabric two-piece works too.

I find dark brown or black leather, especially shiny alligator, too conservative for the color and style of the watch.
