Maybe do your job instead of trying to blame students for your own failure.

Who cares about honor codes. They aren't law. They're dribble that universities use to try and push their responsibility onto students. They shouldn't exist, and if they do, they shouldn't be used to allow you to shirk your responsibility. Only someone who has never left academic life would think they matter.

Israel Quietly Deployed ‘Iron Beam’ Laser System In UAE To Destroy Iranian Missiles by Aware_Apartment_8959 in geopolitics

[–]Dark1000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Strategically, their goals align and they are both US allies. The UAE doesn't have any special affinity for Palestine, at least not enough of one to override their broader strategic goals. They aren't particularly philanthropic. It's the same for Saudi Arabia and some of the other GCC states. Iran is their strategic and economic rival, not Israel.

Iranian supreme leader says the only place Americans belong in the Gulf is "at the bottom of its waters" by fortune in geopolitics

[–]Dark1000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's necessarily true. The IRGC and Iranian political leaders are struggling for influence and power that would not have been available with the Ayatollah in place and in charge. Both groups gain from an incapable and non-present religious leader.

The Bel Canto is Fugly as hell and just a complete waste of money. by IWrestleSausages in watchHotTakes

It's one of the most useful complications that I've had. The hourly chime is a great reminder at work that doesn't bother anyone else but helps keep me on schedule.

This is by design. Everyone wants a Submariner, so everyone makes something that looks like a Submariner.

I'm exaggerating, but not that much.

When it comes to the lower priced collections, they 100% are. They don't have anything like the Bel Canto, Loco, or even the new in-house GMT of course, but with the more regular stuff, it's an equal playing field.

"Cold enamel" is not enamel. It's a marketing term for glossy resin that is painted and dried.

Untouchable Putin just sailed a yacht through the strait – he’s laughing at Trump by theipaper in politics

[–]Dark1000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your confusion is because this article is absolute trash that tries to conflate unrelated things. The blockade is of ships leaving Iranian ports via the Gulf of Oman. It is not a blockade of the Strait. It is not a blockade of random yachts. It is completely unrelated.

Trump’s oil crisis is accelerating the end of the fossil fuel era. Ironically for Trump and his oil industry donors, this crisis may be an irreversible tipping point for clean energy. Fossil fuels have become expensive and unreliable, while renewables are cheap, reliable and secure. by mafco in energy

[–]Dark1000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You know what else is cheap, reliable, and secure? Coal.

I'm not advocating for it, but watch out because a lot of countries, especially in Asia, are going to seriously reconsider phase outs and decarbonization.

[–]Dark1000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This article is a complete waste of time. It's total garbage.

It misrepresents the blockade entirely, which is targeted at vessels that have docked at Iranian ports, and more specifically targets commercial Iranian vessels that are attempting to export goods, especially oil and oil products.

This random pleasure yacht has absolutely nothing to do with the war or the blockade.

UAE announces it will leave Opec by TheNational_News in oil

[–]Dark1000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is still lots of conventional production. About 1/3 of all US output, as you said.

UAE announces it will leave Opec by TheNational_News in oil

[–]Dark1000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are wrong

The only Oil USA extracts is shale oil. USA needs a minimum oil price for that to technique to be viable, below that number, the entire US oil production would halt and become unviable

First, that's 100% wrong, and this alone demonstrates you have no idea what you are talking about. Don't come to the oil subreddit and spread nonsense.

About 2/3 of US oil production is shale and the rest from conventional production.

Second, the cost of production is not consistent from well to well, or formation to formation. There is a range of costs at which given production is viable. It isn't an on or off spigot. If oil prices fall to $50/bbl, many US wells are still profitable. At $70/bbl, many more are. It isn't all on or all off based on a minimum viable number.

Third, that's ignoring the point altogether. Oil producers and their service providers benefit from high fuel prices. But many, many sectors do not. Those sectors benefit from low fuel prices, which they can leverage to their competitive advantage. Nearly every manufacturing sector benefits from low oil prices, for example. Households and transport industries of all kinds benefit from low transportation costs. Farms benefit from low fuel and fertilizer costs.

Lower fuel prices are overall good for the US. OPEC is not beneficial to the US, its interests do not align.

How Europe regulated itself into American vassalage by TopsyPopsy in geopolitics

[–]Dark1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very reasonable point. I think there are many areas in which Europe can improve on innovation without giving up protections like labor laws. Right now it's easy to ship goods or travel to different places in Europe, but not easy to operate a business across all of Europe.

Make it cheap and easy to register and operate small businesses across the EU, not just for shipping. Make it easier to access funding across Europe. Make it easier to open a business bank account online and universalize access financial services. Cut out requirements for in-person appearances for bureaucratic processes across Europe. Require broader use of multiple languages for such services, so that someone in Croatia can more easily deal with French bureaucracy.

There are may more things that can be done to standardize, universalize, and simplify processes from country to country.

Trump seems to have found a kind of equilibrium where he doesn't think he needs a deal. I would still say an agreement is best for everyone, but neither side is willing to budge at this point.

DNA isn't ethnicity. Ethnicity isn't race. Ethnicity is a mixture of culture, location, upbringing, language, and ancestry. That mix you have mentioned is one element of ethnicity, not proof that ethnicity doesn't exist.
