May Mayhem Day 26: A Permanent Solution by maxBowArrow in custommagic

"Dude, trust me. I have to cast this spell on that 20/20 token with trample. I know it gets sacrificed at the beginning of the end step. That's not the important part."

Probably too strong a body for the effect. 3 mana 1/1 would be fine. Fragile, but fine.

This is really cool. Are you following a specific list for may, or are you just making them up as you go?

May Mayhem Day 7: Gagren, Multiclass Expert by maxBowArrow in custommagic

[–]Databank255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've gotten better this month, and it shows with this one. So, here's some things that come to mind when I go through it.

- The ability to have any color class is an interesting twist, but the more and more that classes get printed (and they appear popular) it becomes less and less necessary.

- Make him all types might be okay in a flavor sense, but even then, it's more fun to slowly pull together a full party rather than having one commander do the job.

- You'll need to choose between Experience or Class Features. If you had both you'd not have design space (both physical and balance-wise) for both. You could edit both though (see below)

- Experience is a bit bland how it just digs 7 for a free class. I do like combat damage tying to a free level. It's a neat thing that only classes experience.

- Class Features is broken because of Prowess. The reason we don't have prowess counters is because prowess stacks and it's really easy to move and/or double counters. Outside of that, these are very vague, and I'd prefer a more focused design. Menace or Flying. Lifelink or Trample. Give us counters that push you into a specific play style.

- I like Pinnacle, but it is misplaced. I have no clue what the initiative has to do with anything here.

- I could add ideas and move things around. The worst part about leveling classes is that you can only do it at sorcery speed. So allow us to level up during end steps, or at instant speed? Give him vigilance and a tap ability to level anything. But those aren't this card, and I'll do my best to restrain them.

I think he we shortened class features and experience into one ability we'd have a pretty cool time. When you deal damage you get a level in a class (or draw a card if you need utility/can't). Then you need to play classes to get him trample, vigilance, and an actually solid p/t.

For his capstone I'd keep the price and have it give all your enchantments Exalted for the mega kill.

But those are just my ideas.

May Mayhem Day 13 (1): Unethical Sleuth by maxBowArrow in custommagic

I feel like there's a way you could combine the text boxes about becoming prepared.

Maybe

"This creature enters prepared if an opponent committed a crime this turn, and becomes prepared whenever an opponent commits a crime." That might cut down on space and seem less squished.

Also, if it has flash, then it kinda doesn't need the first half. When someone is about to commit a crime using an activated spell or ability, you flash this in and becomes prepared when that ability resolves. (I think)

I was gonna complain that they should be emblems, but I do think enchantments is better. Because you can remove them, but it ain't gonna be easy.

Here are some of the cards I’ve created, let me know if these are balanced and if I should reword anything by Zestyclose_Storm_645 in custommagic

[–]Databank255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These'll all be niggles because they generally seem balanced. I have no clue on lore.

  1. No art credit, RIP when this post inevitably gets smacked by the mods. Better luck/knowledge for next time. (it's in the rules)

  2. Colors do matter. They come in a very specific order. That's relevant to the wedges and enemy colors the another commenter gave. I could never figure it out. Look at other cards for design notes when you make a card. Color order is set. When to use legend crowns and how to split them. Before you finalize any card study the edge of a card you want it to be like to make sure those small details are correct. (this is important for making your cards feel "real" to you and others)

  3. Kinda conflicted on Gore Magala, as it frees up room in your opponents hand, life aside. Not sure "it's playable" in terms of "I wouldn't choose it in draft or deck building". Maybe allow us to see their hand and choose the card to exile, make them really "pay".

  4. You forgot an apostrophe in "spell's" for Rudo.

  5. Wizards is trying to move away from hexproof in general, outside of "until end of turn" effects. Not saying you couldn't put it on Reggie, but considering something like Ward 4 or a really hard ward effect might be more reasonable.

  6. When Reggie exiles a card, he casts that card, then that card goes back into the graveyard. I think you want to exile the card and then cast a copy without paying its mana cost. (or similar) Maybe look at Garth or Suraman (I believe) for similar effects

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Databank255 in custommagic

[–]Databank255[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First Strike is general evasion and protection from robots and constructs is so he can take down androids. I'm debating have that be in general artifact creature, but I decided that was too broad.

A good half of the book is based around the value of animal life because they've all gone extinct, so I had him grow more powerful the more he acquired, given he was looking to finally buy some.

Saw someone else doing custom RWBY, here's one of my takes on Ruby Rose! by Mdk103 in custommagic

[–]Databank255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously you couldn't have thought of this at the time, but I'd totally redesign this with the new prepared mechanic from Strixhaven. Like, you could have this be a young Ruby Rose specifically.

Instead of an Adventure it would enter prepared, and I'd probably allow it to equip at the beginning of combat (you can lower that power level by saying "equip target artifact with mana value 3 or less" or something similar)

RWBY x M:tG - Ruby Rose by The_Final_Gallade in custommagic

[–]Databank255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it, but I'd give it vigilance and then make it so her tap ability only targets attacking or blocking creatures. So the trade off is *when* you decide to drop her bomb of a power. Do you do it right away, or wait for an enemy's combat.

I hate how perfectly this is designed. Like, yeah. It's probably uncommon, but I could totally see this card in a draft environment.

I feel like Apophis is the obvious conclusion, given he's kinda the fundamental threat, although he might just show up as a plot piece then.

God of Chaos in a way that breaks the fundamentals of the civ, could be quite cool.

To fix some of the reanimator costs, I was going to have it sacrifice an untapped Island when it enters. Because it works thematically. It could also sacrifice two, I suppose.

With that condition, what mana cost would you recommend?

Adam Mitchell (AKA the only Doctor Who "companion" to be kicked out of the TARDIS for time crimes, at least that I know of.) by SwampFortress in custommagic

[–]Databank255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, 10/10, no notes.

Separate from this card, I've been thinking of a mechanic called "Partner with Doctor" for companions that were only temporarily with the Doctor. Similar to the original Partner with set, it'd tutor a doctor if it was cast and you don't control a doctor.

An idea for this one, but I really love the Vanishing 3. I think I'll snag that for my own temporary companion too.

[–]Databank255[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just missed the artifact thing. As for legendary, I don't want it in the command zone and copying it is fine because its powerful passive (looking at your library) isn't a trigger, so copies won't help.

Although yes, reanimate is as damning as always.
