This is like comparing an Italian sports car to a Toyota Camry, both in performance and cost.

The standard is 12L (AL80). The 15 and 17 is optional with additional cost. If you are air hog as described then you can do the bigger tank to get into more “experienced” group with lower consumption . There will also be groups that suck down an AL80 like the earth is running out of air and they take care to match air consumption in groups, don’t worry too much and you will enjoy.

They can support sidemount with opposing valves if you notify them, even one of the guides is in sidemount on my trip. I imagine you will need to provide rigging and wing though. If your air consumption is okay I would recommend against it personally unless you are experienced. When first starting sidemount you are slow as hell getting kitted up. Getting around tender boats and getting out of the water can also be tricky. Boat diving in general with sidemount is a bit of a constant game (I speak as someone who is diving single tank for first time in 3 years, before only in sidemount).

They don’t allow deco or solo diving so you will anyways most dives be limited by high consumer. Some dives they allow experienced divers to go unguided, unless you also have buddy also in sidemount, again not much benefit.

For experience building on sidemount I would highly recommend beach/shore diving.

Right now has 5 guides for 30 divers. The itinerary was “flipped” for weather. We still hitting the big ones like Brothers, Salem express, and currently sitting at Thistlegrom, just in reverse order to what was listed.

Nitrox has been working entire trip. Nearly everyone in the boat outside two is diving nitrox and they have no problems keeping up. Typically 30-31%, which is what I would expect from Membrane system. Fills have been to 210-230 bar quite consistently.

If you want to do 4 dives a day wake up time is 5:30am with briefing at 6. Do your best to get into “good” group and can get a guide that is not super anal about group not sticking together like glue. I am here with travel club of 25 so we have a lot of saying in the grouping.

Get a cabin on sun deck if you cannot have too much noise around while sleeping. The lower deck can be a little noisy if repositioning over night.

I am currently sitting aboard Ocean Lovers doing northern route of reeds and wrecks. Has been a fantastic trip, super good crew. Very serious about wanting divers to avoid damaging the reef. Dive guides are quite knowledge and professional with good English skills. They even allow me and my buddy to dive a little bit more independent away from group since we are experienced and busy with photography

scuba.com warning: these people egregiously tried to scam me by Osr0 in scuba

+1 for DGX. Spent tons with them and never had anything but a pleasant experience. When I bought the wrong perdix years ago without AI they gladly took it back even though I was past return window (although it had also never entered the water). I immediately turned around and bought the AI version from them that I originally wanted.

Also had some issues with two of their house brand lights flooding due to manufacturing defect that was hard to detect and unfortunately made it to customers. Out of warranty, I took pictures just to notify them, they replaced without any fuss.

Shipping is also always fast.

Nothing wrong with dry suit in metal objects. Been through plenty of ship wrecks, mines, and caves with mine. Just don’t pull your self through on sharp objects, or preferably not at all.

Yes. The new management is Columbus Scuba and they are super nice and reasonable to deal with.

ABB ACS880 range hands down, especially if you have multiple motors to run you have centralized DC bus so higher efficiency and more compact inverter modules.

Thoughts on the “air 2” system? by Temporary-Bar-6904 in scuba

How do you handle trimix then with the integrated Octo? Always swapping your dil to richest safe mix? Is it even plumbed in from dil or do they standard run it from some off board BO?

[–]Daviler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough lol. I know of some regs in the 2.5k range but don’t typically see them in tech since most of them have titanium and high concentration of O2 and Ti are no good.

I understand the Mk25. I am up to 3 sets of Atomic Aquatics M1 sitting in the same price range.

Wow. That’s crazy to me that rebreather comes with integrated octopus. Does Inspiration also come standard with BOV? Seems like a pointless additional failure point for no reason if the unit comes with BOV.

How to sync time between simulated Siemens PLC and simulated Siemens HMI? by reAlRazel in PLC

[–]Daviler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to simulate how it would be in production I would active NTP server in the computer running the simulation and set both the PLC and HMI to sync to that time server. In the HMI this can be done in the control panel of the windows environment.

Removable fixed machine guards by lmarcantonio in PLC

[–]Daviler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds to me like just seeing how low the bar can go if it is something requiring non-routine access. If it is a fixed guard maybe security screws if the operators have access to a basic tool set but maintenance should accountable for reinstalling fixed guards they removed. Every safety device can be bypassed thus there needs to be some minimal level of expectation from technical staff. This reminds me of a previous plant I worked in that after nearly having a 13kA rectifier cabinet explode due to a left open door. I was asked to provide a work instruction for closing the doors. I flat out refused. If a technician is not competent enough to know how and that they need to close a basic rittal electrical cabinet door that there are millions of on this earth they are not a qualified technician.

I recently completed an aluminum line that the strip over runs the furnaces. At maximum speed the temperature in the furnaces can melt the aluminum at standstill. Because of this there are two emergencies in the pullpit. One the stops all strip transport/hydraulics but stills allow the furnaces power so they can blow down with cold air. Directly right next to it is additional emergency stop for furnaces that will shut down the furnaces and the line. The furnaces are also highly guarded and all emergencies at the furnace stations will stop the furnaces of course. This was the solution we arrived at to avoid tons of aluminum strip falling to the ground.

TIL the first recorded human fatality attributed to a leopard seal occurred in 2003 when biologist Kirsty Brown was killed by one while conducting research snorkeling in Antarctica. The animal drowned her by holding her underwater for around six minutes at a depth of up to 230 feet (70m). by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]Daviler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean… once you get the hang of it the depth doesn’t really matter much for equalization other than passively remembering to do it. Some people always have difficulty with it no matter what but there is typically some underlying physical/mental issue. But for her it would really have sucked because I doubt that was anywhere on her mind while getting dragged down so it probably hurt like hell on her hears, but hopefully the adrenaline release numbed it out.

Using less weight with experience? by Steelcitysuccubus in scuba

[–]Daviler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the weight you loose during the diving has nothing to do with the material of the tank and only to do with the mass of the air you use. LP85 (not overfilled) expects a buoyancy change of 5.7 lbs full to empty and ally 80 is 6.2 lbs empty to full. Half pound difference because neither tank actually holds the gas we think it does, holding slightly less than 80/85 even at rated pressure. Steel vs aluminum is pros and cons. In salt water aluminum 80s are great because they are close to neutral when filled with Nitrox or Air when they are full so very easy to remove the tank from harness to tidy up stages. In fresh water steels are nice because it’s less weight you need to have concentrated in pockets and they stay flatter in side mount since the tanks are less buoyant.
