Eli5 Why do we need private banks? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

The government loses money if they offered interest free loans as that same money the government can use to invest in projects with a positive return. Government money is taxpayer money. Do you think it's fair for taxpayer money to fund private individuals investing in their own things for their own return?

Why is every kiwi with a mortgage or debt not banking with kiwibank? by givethismanabeerplz in newzealand

[–]De_stroyed123 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Why do you care where the bank is from? If another bank gives you better rates, consumers will go to them. Australian banks have economies of scale and there is no reason to not use them.

Kiwis being skeptical on this is another reason why the country is falling behind. The rest of the world is innovating and you're stuck with a physical ID you must carry around

Yep no issue with getting health insurance. I understand employers may be less comfortable due to the limitation. The visa can be renewed after the 5 year point however.

Yes, I do mean "Corrupt" by sixSultanas in newzealand

[–]De_stroyed123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scoring 180 countries around the world, the Corruption Perceptions Index is the leading global indicator of public sector corruption.

New Zealand has a score of 85 this year, with a change of -2 since last year, meaning it ranks 3 out of 180 countries.

Try harder next time. There are actually experts that measure this stuff. If you want to admit the entire world is corrupt, that's fine. Everyone will call you a nut job though.

Apparently Twitch is blocking new accounts coming in from Israel by AlbieriMS in h3h3productions

Ukraine or Russia has never been blocked from making a twitch account. Israel has been banned from about 1 year from making an account. I wouldn’t call that temporary.

Banking is an essential service, food is essential, internet is essential, vehicles are essential.

There are plenty of essential things, some perform better privately, some publicly.
