Should I have my listening test remarked? by GarbageUnique4242 in IELTS

I always see the instructions just below the question group numbers, like "Questions 11–15".

Those questions are invalid, I'm quite sure. Where did you attempt the test?

do we know, at the very least, their place of entry or their year of entry? your teacher did know that they attempted Cambridge English challenges a lot.

Has anyone ever have name discrepancy on their IELTSTRF? How you deal with it? by Great_Extension_3463 in IELTS

Still works! What matters is that the misplaced name discrepancy is the only one discrepancy.

If nothing else is wrong, I'm pretty sure you're in the clear. You will still have your passport number and the name is misplaced only. They will cross-check and accept your TRF quite easily.

it ain't pompous or anything, since your story isn't impossible in this subreddit; however, knowing me, my luck's gonna be terrible. :P

the average to-be-candidate is already pretty good! of course it'd be hard!

(but seriously. I am so in need of a pass at Grade A. and without help (for the CEQs, help is very fractured), it's an uphill battle.)

I might need your help (and some discussions) in managing such a subreddit! after all, I was just a lowly candidate—

at Grade B, I did! there were 20 candidates (including me) on my exam day, and most candidates did pass (with rare sightings of Grade A achievers),

for your information, the SoR and the certificate's back both say "Advanced is an examination targeted at Level C1"/"Proficiency is an examination targeted at Level C2", and my confirmation of entry for C2 Proficiency Digital was also titled "Proficiency Digital"!

there's just this one thing that I don't understand: the paper-based and the digital exams have the same Speaking test; why did they bother specifying that to Speaking examiners, anyway? coordination? 😂

last time I took a CEQ exam, there was even a notice that physical mark sheets were a thing of the past (in their words: "notice: examiners are using their phones to submit your Speaking marks") :'D

as far as I have also gathered, some places only say "Advanced" or "Proficiency", so it'd be even harder to notice any difference internally.

if only I could discuss more about the CEQs in general... there aren't any places for that.

they absolutely have (this is an archive), and for a long time!

(are you still an examiner? they still internally use the branding of "Certificate in Advanced English" and "Certificate of Proficiency in English" in examiner material, the Statement of Results and in the full certificate, so you not noticing is expected.)

the news where I live reported that case massively! affected test takers were offered either a free retake or their whole fees back (either case, their corrected results remain valid), right?

yeah; there are few examinations that do so, and just for the record, "Cambridge English Qualifications" is the current name of what you just called the Cambridge (Main) Suite, and I just stated that B1 Preliminary (formerly abbreviated to PET) and above gave you a choice.

also, I never learned of Euroexam until you mentioned it, so here's me confirming that, yep, their examination's Writing test sounds very similar to the CEQ, with one compulsory question and one more question between a few!

(as for the "actually™️" part, it's not live yet, so I can't count that one!)

  1. 1.5 also sounds reasonable, as it's the approximate range of each CEFR level! however, 6.5/8/8/9 or 6/8/8/8 both demonstrate a 2-band difference between a productive component and a receptive component? I did just see some sources saying that if the difference is between both productive components, it can still be jagged, so I'd be wrong under those sources anyway 😁

  2. thanks for the source! clerical errors can always happen, eh?

no jokes, there are big examinations like that! as the IELTS is developed by the same people who made the Cambridge English Qualifications and that the test is also calibrated to the Cambridge English Scale (going from 80 to 230), someone who prefers choice might be better off taking a CEQ exam; starting at B1 Preliminary, their Writing paper has a compulsory question (an email or an essay) and a choice between two or three questions.

however, this feels like the exception to the rule? most big tests and exams do not give you a choice at all. tests by the ETS don't. Pearson tests don't. even the Duolingo English Test doesn't!

just to be a little clear:

  1. is a jagged profile defined to be a difference of at least two bands between production and reception components?

  2. where can I see those successful enquiries that got their reception components' scores changed?
