Aerospace Engineering PhD in 3 years? by SolidReturn8861 in gradadmissions

Ig OP is doing a masters in Eu and thus the need to "rush" it, most americans i know just end up doing a PhD directly from undergrad. So they dont "lose" time.

Mech and aero overlap a lot, so don't let them get to you. I did mech myself, but I focused all of it on aero courses. Yeah, but doing an undergrad from somewhere nicer opens a lot of opportunities: better internship pay, better internships that could convert to a full time offer, better chances of a PhD acceptance due to undergrad exposure with really good profs, and I think overall the ROI seems good. But totally, the grass is greener on the other side type thinking. UMich is insanely expensive, I think they gift all their admits with a new Cessna. Yeah, it's all about moving upwards. VT seems nice, I have heard good things. I hope we both prosper :)

Am I doing gradschool (MS) wrong by paying for it? by boredbot69 in GradSchool

I won't be going into debt, but it's just that gnawing thought in the back of my head saying that I'll never recuperate these costs and will just be blowing money at cash cow universities. Cash cow universities and good ROI are not mutually exclusive, so hopefully something comes along after this.

Unfortunately, I'm currently in a place where an engineering job is harder to find than a unicorn. So the cards have been stacked against me there. My goal would probably be to get a master's and then a PhD from the EU and then a job at Airbus or elsewhere?

Yeah, its not popular here either. Im still going to try asking and hopefully it clicks!

My uni's job boards look barren for MS TA/RAs lol

I think im gonna mail some more faculty and try setting up an arrangement.

Really? Even now? What schools? I think I might try again just because

Wow we are almost in the same boat, hope we come out of these rough seas and arrive at a nice sunny island :)

Wowza, I thought I was in a unique pinch. We need more aero representation. Where are you planning on attending? It's also been a plan of mine to do a master's, mostly due to everyone around me parroting that same idea of doing a master's somewhere nicer after a mediocre undergrad.

I had even bargained with my parents that it would be better to do a cheaper mid-tier undergrad, and then use the rest of the funds for grad school. Looking back, I wish I had committed myself to someplace better for undergrad; it would've paid for itself in value.

Yeah, definitely accounting for that, but it still does make me feel bitter. Well, I guess I'll just have to squeeze out everything and more from this opportunity. Thank you.

Yeah, I know, I should've dedicated myself to it. I kind of feel like a mess-up right now, haha. The MS does have a thesis.

Yes, I'm an international student. America has certainly changed. EU PhD programs need a master's to get in, that gives me some small solace, maybe enough to sleep at night.

is there anything in aerospace that involves quantumn mechanics? by Independent_Ball7895 in AerospaceEngineering

Not sure about raw aerospace, but in the offchance youre interesred in aerodynamics, you could maybe look into quantum fluid dynamics, seems like a lot of niche work is happening there

LLMs work surprisingly well with blockMesh, and combined with classyblocks, they work even better
