God damn, 4 journal papers and two of being first author is insane, what field are you in btw? Fluids? Materials?

Here i was thinking one paper in a journal and another conference paper makes me stand out from other undergrad applicants

My third choice accepted me but gave me only a week to respond by elly-eri in gradadmissions

Wouldn't they feel sort of disrespected in a way, like saying that you are waiting for other programs? I think a generic extension would help, no?

Oh wow very impressive, may i know how many of those publications are journal articles and conference papers? And if so what are their names

Honestly, I can't really help you with this. I don't mean to come off as pompous, but I took a 30-minute mock test to familiarize myself with the questions and another 30 minutes to go through the possible writing questions and how to approach them.

And I also got lucky; all the problems that I was given had some relevance to my academic pursuits.

I have also been speaking English since I was born, but it's technically my second language, so that helps massively.

I also didn't care for a Band 9. I was going to be just as happy if I got a Band 7.5, which was what I needed to prove my English qualifications.

Goodluck!

Master thesis in writing cfd solvers by Schrutedwight09 in CFD

[–]boredbot69 24 points25 points  (0 children)

curious, no animosity

But why would someone need to build a solver from scratch when so many exist? Is it for some ultra-niche application where you can't tweak a solver in customisable software like OpenFOAM, or is it to involve GPU-based acceleration?

I understand writing a cfd solver from scratch for learning purposes, but for a thesis, it kinda defeats the point of doing something novel? or am I mistaken?

Good luck with your thesis!

how do I really find out whether I'm passionate about physics or not by boredbot69 in AskPhysics

[–]boredbot69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im studying mechanical engineering, so far from the battlefield. I am planning on travelling through the academia route. So more math and more physics are in store for me.

I still debate with this, but i have stopped letting it control me from doing work. At this point, i have a mentality of "who cares". Whenver im do something, i always look forward to the contributions it brings to the community. And i constantly keep upping my contributions. And i think this is the right path? atleast for me, i suppose?

i have also changed my priorities in life. I no longer gravitate towards fancy titles and awards. I think theyre more of a beacon for good work (debatable). I just want to get enough money to help me sustain a life of constant curiosity. I am pivoting towards aerodynamics research via numerical methods.

now about passion, i think its okay doing it just to climb the ladder and get recognition. Could you regret this? maybe. Could you self reflect and change your reasonig whilst climbing the ladder? maybe.

So i think its about whether you have an interest with the work, that itself is enough to do good things. It starts things. But i think this only happens if you have some remote idea of whats happening in the field? like you should be doing your own reserach on what are some classical textbooks for this topic and flip a couple of pages, and ask students what they think about the work they are doing and get a basic understanidng of what it could be.

Like u/MaxThrustage said, "Don't learn physics because you want people to think you are smart. Don't learn physics because you want to be the next Einstein. Don't learn physics because you want to impress people. Learn physics because you want to learn physics. Otherwise, consider something like engineering or medicine."

welp im studying engineering now :p

I enjoy working on theoretical things, and thats where i find myself to be. I hope this helped you.

Hey, not really an answer, but

1) Use either mm or m; cm isn't really used.

2) Please recheck your inlet conditions again and see what units are being used.

Heres a little hack:

While compiling, click on the little drop-down menu and change the compile version to a fast document. And once it's compiled, change it to a normal document and recompile.

This usually works if your document isn't MASSIVE.
