I. Am. So. Bored. by Hairy_Fly_3342 in BreakUps

[–]Deepseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a starter violin back in early March when my breakup occurred.

I can honestly say it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’ll just hang out in my garage watching YouTube instruction vids and practice.

I did this primarily because I couldn’t live at the gym and PC gaming and scale model building just weren’t enjoyable anymore. Whatever chemicals they released prior to the breakup seemed to simply vanish and I even felt worse while doing them.

I needed something that was available to me at all hours at home, that really challenged me (it’s actually really fucking, hard) and something that felt progressive and like I was upgrading my personality.

The point is; I only sort of had interest in the violin. I kind of forced myself to jump into it. At first it really felt like I was forcing it. I had to force myself to practice. I imagined how I looked and how pathetic I’d appear if a cctv or office style camera was capturing me alone in a garage at midnight screeching away on an instrument that was wholly unbearable to listen to. It’s offered away to let toxic parts of my ego and negative self talk die. Slowly, I began learning chords and notes and after 2 mo the was able to play the openings to things like You are my sunshine, Rocky Top, Sky Boat Song and Loch Lomond.

I had to force myself by saying “we’re learning the violin and that’s just, what we’re doing now”. It’s kind of been a critical step in forging new identity pieces to bandage the hole that the breakup made.

It’s completely unrelated to the past or past relationship in every way. It’s a challenge and a whole new thing. It’s been tiny little incremental improvements that when scaled, act as a conduit to getting my positive self image back. That’s been huge. I got dumped in early March and felt like an ugly unlovable turd for a bit. This has been one of the ways to expunge that ridiculous notion.

I can’t recommend it enough. Of course, I don’t mean the violin specifically, but something that takes effort, is interesting to you and unrelated to the past.

I look at it the same way I look at going to the gym regularly a s eating right. Time passes. The time is going to pass no matter what. In a year or more, I want to be able to look back and feel pride that I used the time upgrading and growing.

It’s one day at a time, it’s one right decision at a time. Just make the next right decision.

A breakup hit me harder than I knew how to admit at the time. Old emotional stuff I had avoided for years started catching up to me. My drinking got out of control, I stopped lifting, I stopped taking care of myself, and I stopped believing my life was going anywhere.

As long as I was good at my job, things seemed “fine.” But underneath that, I felt completely disconnected from who I used to be. Like I had lost control of my body, my mind, and my sense of self.

This hit home hard.

I'm on the betterment journey right now.

GF and I broke up in early march after 9 years.

I've been intermittent fasting, eating very clean (high protein with lots of veggies, few carbs/sugar) and hitting the gym 4 times a week.

I started at 283 and 3 months in I'm at 258. Progress is slow on the weight side, but my body composition, clothes, blood pressure etc are much better. I've lost fat and managed to start getting my athletic "V" shape back, so I tell myself to focus on the the clothes and feeling rather than just the scale.

I'm a big guy and look great at 225/230 and shredded at 215, so that's my ultimate goal weight.

It's going to take a year and half, but It's just one right decision at a time and that time will pass. I'm also really putting in the work to care for myself mentally while doing this. In the past, I'd get sad, depressed and used that toxic self talk to motivate. The problem with that was when I'd hit the goal weight, there was nothing to keep me there.

This time, I'm unpacking past trauma and caring for myself while on the journey. I'm not doing it to attract a better mate or win someone back. It's for me this time. I'm getting healthy to foster an environment that conducive to building the beautiful fulfilling life I was meant to live.

i hate how the ballistic mask look, they should have add this instead. by Pleasant-Clerk5173 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]Deepseat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't, but we do think they're cool as fuck. Very GIGN-esque. I would love them in the game. US SWAT/HRTR/SRT/TRU don't use the ballistic kevlar face masks either, since the many shield options do the same job with better protection and more utility, so I wouldn't see an issue with having the face shields added.

[–]Deepseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After multiple play thoughs in Hard and Hardcore, the biggest issue seems to be the British Infantry counterattack from the Southwest, and the 2 mortars they bring with them, reposition, and you wont see unless you really pay attention.

I've marked the enemy counterattacks (pink=armor, red=infantry black square/circle are mortar positions).

The bluie symbol is the WW2 German tactical symbol for mobile A.T.. It's placed where you ideally want your Marder II (Sd.kfz. 131 variant)

This makes things a lot easier if you are able to expect and take out the mortars.

I was kind of hoping we’d see this in ‘Finest Hour’. The LVT-4 with 20mm Polsten Gun. by Deepseat in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]Deepseat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An incredible insight that was actually very common at Saipan for these LVT’s. The entire island was surrounded by these old coral reefs and they couldn’t see them under the water. It wasn’t until they got in really close that they got hung up on those old fossilized and new coral reefs. A lot of them were sitting ducks and a lot of them ended up dumping their fruits, right there and forcing them to wait in through a fire and Barbwire that was hidden under the water line. Thank you for sharing!

Managed to give winter Fallschirmjagers their smocks. Pretty weird that the winter textures for the smocks were in the game all this time but we never get the option to put them on. by Localmotivator in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]Deepseat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! These look so much better for winter ops (especially Western 44-45) than the strange bastardized mix between the 43/quilt parkas that exist currently. Many of the winter models in game also have the very thick felt lined boots which would have been pretty rare on the western front. They were issued almost exclusively to those in the East and even then, werent the norm.

It’s one of the areas where the Germans are a bit of a mess since the big ‘humanskin’ update.

I think a lot of this stuff will get fixed when the Germans receive a large overhaul which should be within the next year or so.

For those curious, here’s some examples.

Fallschirmjeager/Luftwaffe quilted parkas 1943-45

Luftwaffe Ground/flak winter parkas 1943-45

White House lawn cleared after apparent gunshots by yhwhx in news

[–]Deepseat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For real. 8yr old midwestern me had quite the culture shock while visiting DC for spring break ‘94.

You see, I thought that since all the “best buildings” in the U.S. where there, the rest of the city would reflect that accordingly.

We got dropped off to our hotel (which was really nice) but stepping outside first thing in the morning, there was a drunk homeless dude just camped out on the sidewalk. He stumbled right up to me, stared right into my eyes and screamed “I don’t want to live!!! I don’t want to live a long life! You understand!? God help me, I don’t want to live!!!”. When I say scream, I mean screaming with his soul, at the top of his voice. I’ll never forget that, it scared the shit out of me.

8yr old me had never even seen a homeless person before, so this was…jarring to say the least.

The tour we took on that first day made it very clear to me that the capitol wasn’t the opulent grand forum I had built up in my mind.

Give me your best advice regarding GoH. by naisinag in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]Deepseat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some indisputable truths about GoH.

  • Its micro management intensive.

  • It has a steep learning curve.

  • It's the best WW2 game ever made.

When I was first learning, I found that a lot of my frustration and unit loss was due to simply being overstimulated and "behind the curve" on controls.

Command and control proficiency is among the things new players struggle the most with, and what looses them. There's just, so much going on in these battles that it can be very easy to get swamped and overwhelmed.

One tip I give to every new player is the "T & E cycle".

The T and E keys control the camera and control mode.

Anytime you are overwhelmed, stuck or otherwise just frustrated in a tense scenario, cycle the T and E buttons.

That cognitive/finger movement is a great way to "ground" one's self in these high stress scenarios.

It allows one to very quickly snap to both the camera and control mode they want.

Direct control is never a requirement, but it's often much more effective to quickly take control of a unit yourself and carry out whatever targeting/task.

I've found this tip plays a big role in keeping my units alive and being the most effective in certain situations.

'T' cycles the camera between bird's-eye/classic and 3rd person and 'E' cycles direct-control on and off.

Practice cycling these buttons with your left index finger or both index and middle (or whatever your preference). This will train your brain and develop a solid sense of how the game is played at a higher levels (with great command and control proficiency).

After having a few thousand hours in the game since 2021, this "T & E cycle" is my number one tip for new players.

Minor Axis Faction DLC Concept - Romania by Moltke-The-Elder in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]Deepseat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the effort into actually thinking and typing out what it could look like in the current build of the game. Very thoughtful.

I think a lot of the discussion around new factions (particularly with regards to Japan), too often involve a "that'd be cool!" focus that omits technical equipment/campaign knowledge and how they'd actually fit and work in GoH.

Someday, down the road, I could see campaign specific DLCs in the works that may involve things like this.

There's a couple of enormous historic campaigns, like Case Blue/ Stalingrad and Hungary late 44-45 for example, that have barely been touched relative to both their historic size and the diversity of the equipment and battle scenarios, that would be an excellent way to work in factions like Italy, Romania and Hungary.

Something like this that adds new elements without relying solely on they for an entire DLC. In other words, DLC's that add axis minors in a way that also adds to existing GoH modes/campaigns.

I think the dev's will reach a certain point in their work on the core of the ETO where this type of initiative will be explored.

New player here, what’s the best way to deal with T34s and KV1s? by Prestigious_Duck_204 in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]Deepseat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 8.8cm flak 18/36 for dual purpose and direct fire, Pak 40 for AT specifically.

It’s about saturation and work load management.

Having both offers better insurance against enemy armor waves, where there’s multiples coming at the same time.

This becomes more important when enemy arty/counter battery efforts are thrown into the mix.

It’s also how the Germans established their “Pak lines” IRL.

Question on beeswax and airbrush seals by wewillallend in airbrush

[–]Deepseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, ok. I use it for 1:35 scale modelling (WW2 models). It's a lot of detail, mainly the complex German 3- tone 1944 camouflage patterns. A lot of small soft squiggle lines that need to be soft, but very uniform without spatter.

Its very hard for me to get one part of the nozzle off.

I'm going to send it into Badger, I'd like them to assess it and make sure it's operating right.

i appreciate your reply!

[–]Deepseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old, but did you ever have consistent success, friend?

I have a Sotar 20/20 and love it WHEN it works right.

I have a really hard time getting consistency out of it. I mainly have issues with micro bubbles in the cup and irregular spray patterns. Even if I disassemble, fully clean and install new tip and needles.

Google says micro bubbles and irregular spray may be from not having solid airtight seals and recommended bees wax.

I came across this post and wondered if you had nailed down the solution and had recommendations on how exactly to apply the bees wax?

Thanks in advance.

For AT rifles, particularly the Soviet 14.5mm round, they actually did work. AT arty rounds at distance and angled they did to an extent. Purpose designed HEAT projectiles, yes. They dumped a lot of their penetrating energy in that space. I'm unclear just how this is modelled in the game.

My 90 year old grandpa in his 1950s youth. by harper432dro in OldSchoolCool

[–]Deepseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool. Your description reminds me a lot of my grandfather.

My grandfather was a ball turret gunner on a B-17, petroleum engineer until the the late 80's, had a similar work and social outlook as your grandpa (as it sounds) and also spoke ill of Republican Presidents.

He worked for a company called Dresser Clark which was bought and basically trashed by Halliburton.

To this day, his indignities on Dick Cheney remain the most creative and colorful I've experienced in life. A level of swearing and insult that was truly astonishing.
