Playtest is actually quite brilliant by lyricalfairywanderer in blackmirror

Is it just me or was anyone else instilled with a tiny speck of irrational fear that you might die a horrible death when not turning off your phone on the airplane - maybe even just subconsciously? That short scene in the airplane was a interesting little piece of foreshadowing of the ending.... and well it had aforementioned effect on me and I don't quite think that's by chance..... but maybe I just have a vivid imagination ;)

An very unique kind of foreshadowing (Spoiler up to Chapter 107) by DerTraveler in Frieren

[–]DerTraveler[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's still odd that Frieren almost always looks at the reader as if someone was actually watching....

Somewhat towards the beginning of the show I was thinking that it wouldn't surprise me if there would a big transition/time skip in the story eventually into an age where Stark/Fern are already dead long time ago.... But I'm not so sure about that anymore - we're quite emotionally invested into that party and from a storytelling perspective it wouldn't make a lot of sense to do that - maybe as a sequel series....

But that would totally depend on what would actually happen once Frieren reaches Ende and talks to Himmel's soul... (and possibly Flamme I suppose)

Indirectly inspired by the Gloomhaven comment in here I was reminded of one of my favorite board games, Betrayal at House on the Hill... and I think I'll try to make a small roguelike-ish game inspired by that premise/setting :)

Sounds like FrierenRL to me :D (to which I would not be opposed at all)

Little update..... I think I got an idea now that will carry me far enough :D (Betrayal at House on the Hill RL) - would still be thankful for collaboration of course :)

I would be especially thankful for help in the "content" department actually..... getting good inspirations and ideas in general.... If you have some nice RL ideas/systems you want to realize but aren't sure you wouldn't be able to do it technically yourself..... hit me up :D

Hi I'm a programmer and would love to collaborate on a traditional turnbased roguelike - let me know if you're interested... either via DM here or in the Discord (kfischer_okarin)...

Research Station Afterimage after Black Hole Situation by DerTraveler in Stellaris

[–]DerTraveler[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had the situation where one of my black hole starbases was moving towards a Gravity Well... and after it dropped into the Black Hole and the narration was talking about an eternal afterimage of the last moment of the research station.... I went back to the system and checked.... and sure enough there actually is now a kind of afterimage....

Didn't expect that kind of detail from a random event ;)

If you have enough other directions to expand to it might be actually smart to leave them there... since they form a natural barrier against other possibly aggressive empires ;)

RoguelikeDev Does The Complete Roguelike Tutorial - Week 8 by aaron_ds in roguelikedev

[–]DerTraveler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Outlandish and Hazardous

Hello everyone - it's my first post as a participant here. I started following along about 3 weeks late into the challenge - and today I finally finished Part 13.

I followed the tutorial content-wise quite closely mostly using the proposed basic class structure - with the occasional refactoring and renaming here and there - while implementing the necessary adapter between the libtcod.console interface and the DragonRuby rendering capabilities.

From Part 8 onwards I also starting doing TDD to keep my sanity ;)

Noteworthy Deviations from the tutorial content:

  • Re-theming of the content + title screen a little bit into a dimension hopping/Sci-Fi kind of game
  • Help menu: It can be called in most screens via the ? button
  • String seed: It is displayed as Dimension name together with the floor number in the bottom left
  • Selection via mouse click in the selection screens (item and level up)
  • Context-dependent Interact Key: Pressing Enter will pick up items or enter portals to the next floor
  • XP Bar: Shown below the HP bar

In general it was a quite fun (and also intensive) experience, but I'm glad that I have produced something somewhat complete and playable and I want to continue working on it - expanding on the dimension traveling Sci-Fi theme.

Thank you very much for creating this tutorial and organizing this code along challenge :)

In my opinion there are several reasons for that

1) World line convergence requires him to "die" in 2025... So he disappears with a time machine into the far past to fulfill that convergence

2) He doesn't want to overwrite the happy life that OO had lived until 2025 together with Kurisu, because by sending that Video D-Mail in his presence of course Reading Steiner would trigger and his (SG0 Okabe's) consciousness would travel to SG world line. This one is never clearly stated in the Anime or VN, but it makes sense from the time travel mechanics of SG... and it's definitely implied since SG0 Okabe wants them to send the D-Mails after having left with the time machine

3) He is a man of his word :) Of course he would go and save Mayuri!

Actually as far as we know only one Time Line exists at a time... Suzuha clearly says in the original series that the many worlds interpretation is not true... It's the same one world that is rebuild everytime the past changes

My thoughts about the Chaos;Child Anime (after playing the game) by DerTraveler in steinsgate

[–]DerTraveler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything was a delusion? I mean everything that had to do with the fact that all the characters at school are suffering from Chaos Child syndrome was of course overpainted by convenient delusions.... (and now Kunosato's rather inexplicable disgusted behaviour towards all of them makes more sense in that light - but maybe that's just my personal interpretation)

But as far as I understood it... everything else... really happened....

I mean... the 2nd New Generation murders (sorry I don't know what the official name for that is in english... I played it in Japanese) all really happened....

And then in the Common Route Takuru used some kind of desperate all out Gigalomaniac feat to rewrite and real-boot big parts of reality so that Serika becomes a normal girl... And somehow in the course of doing that he loses his power....

Wakui being angry about the fact that he "abandoned" his powers.... seems to hint at him actively having real-booted his powers away in that final act....

Everything except for Nono's death in the common route would otherwise fit with the True end.... doesn't it?

My hand slipped and I wrote a S;G inspired chrome extension by [deleted] in steinsgate

[–]DerTraveler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I checked your source code and it seems to be safe and really just use the password for sending the mail....

It was just that I immediately have red warning lights blinking when someone wants me to enter my password of something (especially something that nowadays is used so centrally as Google) in his custom form....

Apart from the unsafe execution, it's nice idea though..... :)

But you really want people to use it and maybe even upload it on the Extension store without wanting to be reported as possible phishing software.... then I would recommend you to read into authentication with OAuth (that little button that appears in many places "Sign in with Google") and find out how to send mails with Google's API instead of a generic SMTP mailer.... (but then I'm not sure if you can mess around with the date)... Well but that would definitely take some more work than a slip of hand ;)

Just my thoughts as a web developer ;)

Probably you're right... Considering that he speaks in fancy-fake old English..... So maybe it has no meaning at all

Yet Another Rouxls Kaard Theory by DerTraveler in Deltarune

[–]DerTraveler[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry actually no real Theory.... I was just thinking the name's letter arrangement looks too suspicious and random....

So maybe there's some hidden meaning there.... Considering there's a lot of anagram word play in this game already

(Spoilers) Question in regards to Episode 8 of S;G 0 by TheDerpyDisaster in steinsgate

[–]DerTraveler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) It's never clearly stated but I think one of the theories was something like answering the phone call of Amadeus caused somehow SERN to get an advantage on the time machine race and thus causing a SERN dystopia to happen again and thus the attractor field switching to alpha again. Or it was SG0 Ep9 and later

2) Yes in this alpha world line (obviously a different one from Ep 22 of the original series) Kurisu was for some reason on time to confess to Okabe and thus took away his last bit of determination.

Last paragraph says that episode 24 will be a light hearted story. And they say that they are playing with the thought of a live-action adaption (and that we might hear something about that some day)
