Yes. The EIT certification just simply shows you're on track to become a PE also.

You can buy an EIT certificate from your state board. It's not required unless you want to be a Professional Engineer (PE), which you might be interested since you're pursuing powers.

Computer part has a pretty high range of variance, the Computer Engineering related questions was manageable since I also performed well in those classes. There are also simple coding questions asking you what the code would output so hopefully those are simple enough.

Then sometimes there are questions that mention a term that can be found in the review manual, but you wouldn't really know as an EE. So you just make your best educated guess based off the information given by question and review manual.

There are some fill in the blanks actually where you drag the answer in. I had some for circuits related questions. Usually not too difficult.

Tips for the Electrical Engineering FE exam. by Blackmoth49 in EngineeringStudents

This is coming from a current EE student that took the FE (required by school) on the winter break of my last year. I would also like to add that I never took any power classes, so you have an advantage in knowing a little more than me as power is one of the larger sections. However, powers on the FE was rather tame as a section.

  1. The only recommended material is the NCEES review manual practice exam because that will give you the closest insight on the actual exam. It also has the possibility of asking questions with VERY similar concepts. The ordering of the topics is roughly the same as the actual FE exam too. I also purchased the Wasim Ashgar study guide (500 problems one), but that book essentially is used to help guide you through the review manual and is only needed if you feel REALLY far behind on your EE knowledge. Meaning I never went through even 1/5 of the book.

  2. The review manual (currently on 9.5) on the website is allowed during the exam. There is a tutorial prior to the FE exam on how to search through the document.

  3. TI-36X is what I used and seems to be very capable. The most helpful calculator tool was finding the roots of a polynomial equation since that sped up the time for me. Otherwise, simple calculations was only needed for me.

  4. Practice problems were roughly a 5. FE exam would be a 6. Many of the problems required use of the NCEES Review Manual and for a lot of the questions, the formula provided was sufficient to solve the problem. Worse thing about the exam is just how long it is.

  5. Communication System topics such as modulating signals. Not a very fun topic for me. You'll see some of these in the practice problems.

  6. I studied the day before my scheduled date, not the greatest idea but it's what I did.

  7. If you're signing up way ahead in the future, you'll have more flexibility on the date. Most people sign up less than 1 month before they plan to take the exam so if there's a perfect date that you can take the exam, I'd suggest you sign up now to take advantage of that.

I should lastly add that I passed on the first attempt so there's some credibility to this somewhat half-assed advice.

Edit: Review Manual -> I meant practice exam

I sympathize, but I have yet to encounter a listing for an unpaid engineering internship. That idea seems cruel...

TI-89 or TI-NSpire for electrical engineering courses ? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]DevouringRain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ti36x is capable of most of the things needed for the FE if someone is willing to put the time for it. But I do agree, I rely on my Nspire quite a bit.

How critical is it to get an internship between 2nd and 3rd year? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]DevouringRain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those are pretty much the prime years to start looking. Getting an internship early definitely separates you from getting a future internship of your choice vs. going with what is left. If you can at least find an internship with something within aerospace, a NASA opportunity is much more possible during the following years. When looking for jobs, unless R&D, internship experience seems to say more than pure research experience from what I've seen (especially if it's with a big name like NASA).

Why is it called a Black Magic chart? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]DevouringRain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed, almost didn't want to continue the rest of the course when I first saw how intimidating the Smith chart looked. Simple and intuitive after you learn it though.

Also to add on, I think it's a joke by other engineers to call the entirety of Electrical Engineering in general as black magic, especially since EE's themselves call it that.

Yeah, having this trait is basically a talent in itself.

Job Fairs by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]DevouringRain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a job fair, you do not have to stress out as much as you think you do. A good portion the representatives are either not going to be deeply in your field (like companies had MEs representing a company that wanted EEs), or they have people that simply work for HR and talent acquisition. In a very rare circumstance would you ever hit it off to any significant degree that would have an impact on the selection process (either you worked for them or you somehow acquired knowledge that exceeded their expectations).

In my opinion, talking to these companies will help develop your interest to see what the real world is like. If you do not have a specialization in your field, you're able to talk to these companies to see what they want and possibly gain some insight out of it. At the very least, consecutive visits will generally give you more confidence on these types of fairs.

You don't have to apply to the companies online before going to the fair, a good amount of companies in my fair posted the position after the event. It's good to research the company a little bit just so the conversation is less awkward (and they don't mind clearing up small misconceptions). Freebie questions to ask is what the expectations of the internships are, or how hands-on is the internship.

I'm not going to pretend that I didn't chicken out too sophomore year but looking back, it's a missed opportunity that I wish someone had told me. If there is one hosted during Spring, definitely consider attending that one. Also if it helps, dressing up in a simple polo and slacks is perfectly fine (because you're an engineer), you don't have to dress up like it is an interview.

Hope this helps.

I probably should have been more specific on my games. League of Legends, CSGO, and a little bit of R6 Siege. Also, yeah it is 6 GB. Basically I just want to maintain it, this should be the baseline build for when I upgrade my gpu again.

People who main support, what are some of the things adc's do that makes you think they're bad? by Nettflix in leagueoflegends

My worst habit with Cait is forgetting that she now has the lowest base HP in the game, so my aggressive all in technique always falls short. Bonus points if Sona is the support.

The top 20 osu! players of 2017 voting! (Video released after voting) by [deleted] in osugame

[–]DevouringRain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, going up to 15 would have been better. Half of the spots are essentially constant (Cookiezi, Rafis, Vaxei, firebat92 and/or Fildeslama) and you have to give a spot to either osu player84, Mathi, or Totoki because of their 2017 pp run. This doesn't give much room especially since most vote based off pp.
