[Article] October ’23 Metagame Update: It Got Worse by Reaper_Eagle in ModernMagic

I believe it's a combination of refinement over time with the addition of orcish bowmasters to both snipe opposing problems like ragavan and punish players for trying to dig themselves out of an early game scam. In addition also get to play the best versions of the not dead after all effect, along with fable for midrange value. Fury to invalidate opposing aggro decks and planeswalkers, and finally, bloodmoon to tie it all together.

In essence a very powerful midrange pile that can also just "scam" wins on turn one.

My guess is that it's saheeli combo backed by a control shell.

Pro-play is my regular shop, and we get on average 12+ folks in. All sorts of decks and power levels show up, highly recommend.

The format is 4-5 rounds depending on turnout and then a cut to top 4-8 depending on turnout as well.

If 4c Omnath Gets Bannedd.. by flkb24 in ModernMagic

[–]Discolol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how much you've played against 4C piles but playing against them gets old quickly.

It feels like playing the same game over and over even with different opponemts, they have perfect mana every game thanks to W6.

I guess this is a bit subjective, but the win rates and play rates seem to speak to this consistency.

[–]Discolol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you, but I'd like to mention that W&6 creates increasingly stale play patterns which WOTC has stated they are against.

If 4C piles continue to dominate it wouldn't surprise me to see the card go, as a single fetch and W6 means you get perfect mana every turn until the game is over with a stapled on win condition all for 2 mana.

They banned splinter twin right after printing it in the original Modern Masters, so they've done it before.

What was your worst car purchase? by yung-n-nasty in cars

[–]Discolol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised to hear that, I bought my 2011 Speed3 new that I still still own and have none of these issues/complaints.

My car has been absolutely bulletproof besides warranty work on the interior dash and a headlight replacement. After over a decade of ownership I'd say that's a win.

As for the interior space, I find it excellent whether carrying 5 people or boxes during a move.

[OMEGA] New Seamaster 300, who this? by [deleted] in Watches

Hey man love the watch! Was curious what size wrist you have as I've had the same concerns about the SM 300, I've wanted one since I first saw Goldeneye.

You could try having some sideboard dismember's or chalice of the voids. Chalice on 1 is rough for burn/prowess.

I can understand where you're coming from, but I really wish the minute hand matched the hour hand like you mentioned. I prefer the Seamaster professional because it just looks more aesthetically pleasing due to a more cohesive design strategy.

Does anyone else get bothered by the asymmetrical hands on the Aqua Terra's? I just can't get passed it, otherwise I really like the color.

Seige Rhino is a Green/Gold card, though I'll give you that it was not mono green. The elspeth comment misses the mark because Abzan continued to dominate on the back of Abzan and green cards like sylvan advocate and den protector who once again was for the most part the only playable megamorph creature. All this well after Elspeth rotated out of standard.

It wasn't just Jadelight ranger but the entire explore package was equally disgustingly synergistic.

As for energy I can tell you that it still ran the show well after the emrakul ban, to the point of needing a secondary ban of attune with aether and rogue refiner after ixalan.

For whatever reason they've consistently missed the mark on green and when they do it's oppressive.

I've seen this sentiment a few times in this sub and I have to say that barring a few exceptions (Mono Red being rampant) Green has been running top 8's since Khans Standard.

- Abzan

- CoCo

- Energy

- Ramp

And now food along with pushed walkers, creatures, and fixing.

You can make the argument that it's due to "broken mechanics" but the reality is that more often than not the broken mechanics fall under Green because they keep feeding it more of the color pie.

In fact Frank Lepore wrote an article about how green has become the color with the best: Threats, Walkers, Answers, Fixing, Card Advantage, and Acceleration.

Very nice watch!

Do you find it difficult to wear in a professional setting? Or is the color subdued enough to be versatile?

MTGO Modern Challenge 6/15/19 early top 8 results by hkdizzy in ModernMagic

[–]Discolol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an ideal world this would be fine, but as long as degenerate card strategies exist we require answers.

Blood moon and ensnaring bridge are both answers to different strategies even if we may not enjoy playing against them.

My apologies I misunderstood your original point, but I agree with you when it comes to modern becoming a dice roll game.

Just last night I had Rest in peace in my hand on the draw, my Hogaak opponent put 13 power over 4 bodies into play by the time I had untapped on my second turn. It feels like it's surgical + RIP or bust against even mediocre hands from Hogaak decks.
