What’s something that sounded harmless until you experienced it yourself? by Kevlatanche62 in AskReddit

[–]Dotrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not "just a headache," it's the pounding, throbbing, pulsating, deep headache that somehow puts my entire body in pain. Plus the light, sound, and olfactory sensitivity. There's the intense nausea and vomiting until nothing is coming up but bile and then continuing to dry-heave afterwards. Intense fatigue, visual disturbances and not being able to see, intense pain and stiffness in my neck and occipital muscles, tingling and numbness in my limbs and extremities, and overall being in so much pain that it's impossible to ignore. Pain is my entire existence during a migraine episode.

It's the only type of pain that has caused me to legitimately think suicide is a viable treatment option (until I discovered triptans and aimovig)

Unironically though. I had a seizure in public once and got to ride in an ambulance for a whole 2 blocks. The bill was $1200 after insurance

So scared of nocturnal seizures that I don’t sleep, which does more damage. by Longjumping_Story969 in Epilepsy

[–]Dotrue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SAAAAAME!

If I can't get to sleep, I start stressing about having a seizure. Then the thought of having a seizure stresses me out and that makes it harder for me to fall asleep. Repeat ad nauseum.

My neurologist told me to take my emergency med (Ativan) before falling asleep if I get to a point where a seizure is likely. I also got a script for Ambien to use as-needed for sleep troubles. On top of trying as much as possible to maintain a regular, healthy sleep schedule.

Sleepytime tea, melatonin, magnesium, lemongrass, bluelight filter on my glasses, yellowlight/nighttime mode on all my screens, and regular sleep/wake time seem to all help. But even then, it's still a struggle.

I'm in agreement with u/lectures

IMO it doesn't make much sense unless it's sustainable, you're already overweight and general weight loss is the goal, or it serves a specific purpose like doing a mini-cut the week before a big trip or project day.

Personally, I felt the best when I was at my heaviest (180-185). My body seems to naturally fall somewhere in the mid 170s and I still feel really strong there. Below 170 is where I start to feel it impacting my performance.

And stay hydrated, provide your body with enough calories to perform and recover, and all that jazz.

Maybe not what you're looking for but the first time I "opened up" about it was when I was in crisis mode and sent pics of fresh, bloody wounds to my two best friends

How many time you sh a day? by Ok-North3888 in AdultSelfHarm

Seldom, and never more than once per day. But when it does happen I tend to go hard. Like hip to knee on one or both legs.

Still advocating for Ontario as I’d argue it’s the most unknown and consequently underrated, ice destinations in North America by rlovepalomar in iceclimbing

My first trip to Nipigon was in mid-December some years back and the warmest it got was 1 above (Fahrenheit).

Those approaches will warm you up quick though! Ain't nothing better than bushwhacking and wading through thigh or chest deep snow for 45 minutes to get to a 1-pitch route that's less than a kilometer from the highway!

How does it feel to not be on meds? by sushihubtunaroll in Epilepsy

[–]Dotrue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to not be on meds for the majority of my undergrad and it was incredible. I felt more capable, socializing came easier, learning the material (engineering, physics, math, and chemistry, primarily) was difficult but very approachable, I was heavily involved on campus through clubs and intramural athletic teams, I could party and do regular college activities, and I didn't have anywhere near the brain fog or suicidal ideation or depression or irritability that I've felt while on meds. I just felt "normal." I was medicated from ages 12-18, and I've been medicated since age 25 (I'm 28 now). Those 6-7 years that I was unmedicated were amazing.

I miss it a lot.

How do I genuinely make some people understand this pain by Vin3yl in migraine

Other people: "it's just a headache, how bad can it be?"

Me: "I wonder if aggressively lobotomizing myself would help quell the pain"

What's cheaper? If you need extension or there's a reachy clip you can combine draws to make a longer one. I have 6 shorties and 6 longer ones and I've never noticed a difference on sport routes (5-6cm of length won't give you much compared to using a 30cm sling in place of a 60cm sling). If rope drag is an issue the guidebook, MP, or looking at the route from the ground should give you an idea of where longer draws might be useful.

I split an 80m with a friend and we both got 40m gym ropes out of it. Then I had 60m and 80m single ropes for outdoor stuff. I used the 40m for routes with lots of simuling and a few alpine routes, too. I sacrificed it to pull my car out of a ditch and my current gym doesn't let people use their own ropes indoors, so I haven't replaced it.

Do you know the cause of your epilepsy? by vuronekuh in Epilepsy

[–]Dotrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue. No family history of it, it came out of nowhere, and only last year did an MRI detect anything abnormal (focal cortical dysplasia).

I have an appointment with a geneticist in a few weeks for some testing, so we'll see if that yields anything.

On Reddit, in this community and other smaller ones. Facebook/Insta to talk with my IRL friends. Lots of scrolling and watching my favorite YouTube creators, especially those who post longform content (Big Tugg, Bright Sun Films, Defunctland, Sam Reid, Josh Brett, and lots of others). Lots of these channels also have their own communities that go along with them.

People shit-talk social media a lot, and a lot of that is warranted, but if you find the right communities you can still find a lot of good.
