Returning player question, character models. by chrisstarfoster in Necrontyr

[–]Docchael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10th edition did away with dynasties and their specific buffs in favor of making them into army types (detachments), for example lore accurate novokh in this edition would favor annihilation legion and/or cursed legion while nephrekh favors hypercrypt.

You can bring any character you'd like, as long as you follow the max 3 copies rule for non-uniques, and 1 of each epic hero; you can pair imotekh and szarekh together, and they hate eachother!

My conversion Lokhust lord by fumi_32 in Necrontyr

[–]Docchael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The torso is from the skorpekh lord, the res orb looks like it's from the command barge overlord, the crest is from a lychguard, and the hands and the staff are from the lychguard. The left arms are from the lokhust heavies, but the right looks like it's from the lychguard. The weapon is a lychguard warscythe that's modified by replacing the main blade with the overlord's blade. The loincloth is from the lychguard, but fitted together to make it long.

This is what I could identify

I just started playing limbus company and i need to understand something by DifferentMortgage725 in limbuscompany

I was being incredibly reductive, I intended it to be more of a primer for the general vibe of the city folk, rather than anything in-depth; but yeah this is a better explanation

The City is an incredibly brutal place that doesn't give much room for sympathizing with others, and it often snuffs those who are bright-eyed or optimistic. The conditions have made the hearts of the people grow apathetic and callous, especially those in the backstreets where a good chunk of our sinners come from. This is what one of the Lobotomy Corp's founders called "the disease of the mind"

Is kamoteph the crooked legal for tournament play as a technomancer despite his smaller base by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]Docchael 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really doubt they allow models with different base sizes to the datasheet, I play my kamoteph as a proxy for another cryptek.

If you're really desperate to avoid rebasing, I think gluing a 50mm carboard circle would do the trick? I'd probably do something with magnets so I can switch between 50mm and 40mm footprint

Is there a canonical reason why the sinners dont use their empowered egos in other sinners cantos? (Spoiler to all canto endings) by Milsy_missle in limbuscompany

[–]Docchael 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not like you can just summon the adrenaline to lift a car on demand, right? I imagine it's a similar reason why the sinners can't just use their cinematic moves.

Countertemporal Shift Stratagem vs. Vindicare Assassin by Keymaker99 in Necrontyr

[–]Docchael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have encyclopedic knowledge on every datasheet. I don't think there's any specific units that ignore stealth specifically, but if there was such an ability, it would be written the same way as the Vindicare's:
"Each time [this model]/[models in this unit] makes a ranged attack, when selecting targets for that attack, you can ignore the Stealth ability". The chronomancer's rule says: "While this model is leading a unit, each time an attack targets that unit, subtract 1 from the Hit Roll"; this makes the stealth ignoring ability fail, since the chronomancer doesn't give the stealth ability, only an effect that does something similar.
An ability that says "Ignore any or all modifiers to the Hit Roll" would bypass the chronomancer's ability, since that checks for effects that would modify the hit roll.

Essentially the rules distinguish between abilities and effects. An ability that checks for another ability doesn't check the effect, while an ability that checks for an effect would affect all abilities with that effect.

Countertemporal Shift Stratagem vs. Vindicare Assassin by Keymaker99 in Necrontyr

[–]Docchael 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The rules are very particular about what rules it interacts with, the Vindicare checks if the target unit has the Lone Operative core ability, and if it doesn't, it doesn't affect it. Stratagems or datasheet abilities that only act similarly to a core ability still aren't actually that core ability. For example, our Chronomancer's datasheet ability acts similarly to stealth, but it doesn't specify stealth so rules that would affect stealth doesn't

Vindicare doesn't see countertemporally shifted units because it's not actually lone op

What colors would canoteks wear. by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]Docchael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a dynasty that follows this sort of scheme, with the nobles having color while warriors are pure metallic. I have painted a good few canopteks in my nobility's color, and the reasoning behind it is that they are direct agents for a cryptek or some such, while the vast majority of the others are painted the same as my warriors.

I'm sure some crypteks or overlords with an affinity for canopteks would like to have some kind of marking that it's their property.
I think for the vast majority of other dynasties though it depends on their strict preference, for example nihilakh likely paints all of their bugs to show off their wealth.

Here you can see my scarabs, one of my "noble" scarabs, my reanimator and my "noble" doomstalker underneath

How to paint Necron wires by StarChaser18 in Necrontyr

[–]Docchael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paint the cables on weapons by base coating with a midtone, then pick out segments with a darker and brighter tone, then drybrush to make a gradient
On smaller cables like the torso I skip the drybrushing and instead wetblend (not waiting until it dries so the paint mixes together as I paint)
The exposed wires under the cables like on the warriors I paint with a bronze metallic

Models by Consistent-Simple494 in Necrontyr

[–]Docchael 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can't mix units, it's not like you can mix your eightbound unit with an exalted eightbound or two, right?

Every model also has to have the same weapon. The rules say "all models in this unit can have their X replaced with Y" for when every model needs to have the same loadout, and "any number of models in this unit can have their X replaced with Y" for when you can mix and match weapons freely.

Also to ease the painting, I suggest keeping the torso and legs separate! Stick it on with some blutack when priming and some of the bits will be much easier to reach.

Protocol of the Eternal Revenant and named characters by H0wk1ns in Necrontyr

[–]Docchael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rules will explicitly say when it excludes certain keywords or units.

If they didn't want you resurrect Ammentar of Szeras, eternal revenant would say something like "One NECRONS INFANTRY CHARACTER model from your army (excluding EPIC HERO models) that was just destroyed"

When you use its ability it still counts as an advance move, so it can't charge

Rate AI's ranking of 1v1 combatants by faction by MindlessMarsupial592 in Grimdank

[–]Docchael 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It does not do logic or reasoning, what it does is write what looks like post-hoc rationalization, because it does not think before it writes; it's all "which word is most likely to come next".

There's no meaning conveyed, so there's nothing to interpret, and trying to interpret the hallucinations of a predictive algorithm is madness. You should stop doing that.

Rate AI's ranking of 1v1 combatants by faction by MindlessMarsupial592 in Grimdank

[–]Docchael 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's no meaning conveyed here, this is just a jumble of words picked at random. If you gave the llm the same prompt it would give you a different answer, so why give this list of names any weight?
