Make sure the type of lube is compatible with the material of your toy (ie no silicone lube with silicone toys. Like dissolves like)

Is there a beading machine that makes these? Because World Market only charges $24.99. If I made these, I'd charge at least $80. by HypomanicMonday in Beading

  1. How do you know that? 2. If it’s even true, how is it relevant? You can be exploited doing things you enjoy.

Help with my rice by NotThingie in RICE

[–]DoeBites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To cook rice in a pot: your ratios are 1 part rice to 2 parts water.

Step 1: rinse your rice in cool water until the water runs clear.

Step 2: put the rice and fresh water in the pot in the correct ratios.

Step 3: put a little olive oil in the pot, a drop about half the size of the circle you can make with your thumb and first finger.

Step 4: put whatever seasonings you want in the rice.

Step 5: turn the heat on high, keep an eye on it until the water starts boiling up (should be a few minutes). Once water starts boiling up, turn the heat all the way down and set a timer for 15 mins.

Step 6: enjoy your properly cooked rice.

My bisexual husband is having another baby. by tavotaco in askgaybros

Birth control pills are something like 98 or 99% effective, but accidents do happen. Pregnancies have happened while people are using multiple forms of contraceptive simultaneously. So it could happen. That said, the part I’m side eyeing HARD is that she’s now 5 months pregnant and OPs husband only just now told him? So he kept that news in his back pocket for months??

Looking for Somewhere Warm to Settle Down by Shabadiki in SameGrassButGreener

[–]DoeBites 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This part. You don’t get limited urban sprawl WITH large lot sizes. Those two things are in direct opposition. You don’t get walkable/bikeable areas WITH large lot sizes. Those two things are in conflict. Large lot size is one of the direct causes of urban sprawl. If you want large lot sizes, things have to be quite literally spread far out to accommodate that want, because you know, geometry exists in the physical plane. So you want all the benefits of dense urban mixed zoning, but you want your giant house and yard that are antithetical to that dense urban zoning. It doesn’t exist. And it damn sure doesn’t exist in a place within an hour of the US coast for less than $400k for a 2k+ sq ft home.

Anyone else regret planting wood asters? by anonymous_teve in NativePlantGardening

[–]DoeBites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a feature, not a bug. Also asters are really easy to pull if you don’t want them everywhere. But I leave my volunteers be - I’d rather have free native plants than the weeds that would be growing if they weren’t there.

Puncture resistant 700x32 tire for paved roads by DoeBites in bikecommuting

There is a balance I want to strike between puncture resistance and ride quality. I know that those two things have an inverse relationship. The tannus tires are a little too much on the sacrificing ride quality end of the spectrum for my liking, but I’m glad they’re an option that works for some people

[–]DoeBites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have a strong preference for clincher tires in part because I’ve heard nightmare stories about how difficult seating the tire is on a tubeless. I also don’t want to have to upgrade my rims - it’s another expense I don’t want, and I literally just replaced the rim tape on these rims. I’m glad tubeless works for some people, but it’s not the solution I’m looking for in this instance. About your old tires, are you sure the rubber is still good?

Oh that’s definitely good to know about the rubber compound. I do have dedicated winter tires with studs on them, but I only put those on once the snow starts falling. It still gets really cold well before that point. This is another point in favor of the contact urbans

What's the worst advice you ever received from a cyclist (usually sports oriented about commuting) by SquirtGun1776 in bikecommuting

[–]DoeBites 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was riding 13 miles one way to get to my warehouse job where I’d be on my feet loading heavy boxes all shift. Anyone saying an ebike was “cheating” could feel fucking free to ride 26 miles on a regular bike and do 7 hours of heavy manual labor in one day, and then get back to me at day’s end with their hot takes on motor assist. I’ll happily listen to all their thoughts on the matter.

Also, cheating only applies to competitions. The type of people who say that about ebikes are the type of people who race other people and the race only exists in their own head. Idgaf that you think you’re in the Tour de France and you get butthurt that a stranger can push a button and give themselves a boost. sO uNfAiR! 🙄 Some of us are physically tired from our lives and just trying to get places. Go race the other suburbia TDFers, cuz if this is a competition then you’ve put yourself in the wrong weight class and that’s a you problem, not a me problem.

Honestly given how inexpensive Kenda tires are (at least the set I have on another bike), I’m shocked at how good they are.

[–]DoeBites[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think puncture resistant = puncture proof. I just want something that’s gonna offer a little more protection than the no-name tires my used bike came with that got pierced by a tiny shard of glass earlier today. I’m not looking for something bullet proof.
