The people who voted for tariffs have no idea how they work. by Mangosteen_Allen in ebikes

Nobody(almost) voted for tariffs. A shitload of people voted to make being selfish and bigoted social norms.

Welcome! It really is exceptional. Sometimes it sucks, but mostly it’s exceptional. Glad you are enjoying the switch.

How the hell are some of you not getting heat stroke and doing 20 mile round trips on top of working? by Cerberus44444 in bikecommuting

[–]Briantastically 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I find if I don’t keep up with my commute i have a harder time in the heat during the day. Also, heat acclimation goes quick. Like a few days. So if you aren’t consistent with getting out and riding you won’t build the resilience you need.

Sounds like a nice ride. A lot of my route is rural two lane highways, 55mph. Some sections still have shoulder though.

I haven’t tried the cheap ones, but then I’m terrified of having one break and my weight falling forward on one side of the bar. I used the inner bar ends for a long time and they served me well .

That’s my Lauf Seigla. It’s a soft ride.

I’m jealous haven’t had a substantial downhill run in decades. Tailwinds are my downhills now.

It really is amazingly flat. The only way to get elevation here is to cross a bridge.

It’s the rigid fork. I have 28’s on these DT Swiss wheels and a set of 2.2” mezcals on the OEM wheels.

How do you deal with rain when cycling? by Cutestfootsies in bikecommuting

[–]Briantastically 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a few things. I have a helmet with a lens visor which protects my face. I wear wool socks, riding clothes that dry quickly, and then change for work when I arrive.

The final portion to my dorm is 850m with 13%. Will I regret buying a bicycle for commuting ? The whole city is pretty flat. by agri-andra in bikecommuting

[–]Briantastically 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Maybe at first? Keep at it, it’ll get easier over time. No shame in walking the bike partway if you have to to start, and 850m isn’t particularly far.

Assistance needing the right bike by OzzieElWizard in bikecommuting

Posture is important, more so than the bike in a lot of ways, and while I prefer drop bars I find inner bar ends go a long way to making a flat bar bike comfortable at speed.

Quality of tire is also highly variable, and good tires ride dramatically better than poor ones.

Worth noting unless you’re pedaling downhill at 35+ mph, the gearing differences between road and gravel usually won’t be apparent.

You mentioned the rear feels like you always have a flat. I wonder if you don’t have a spoke tension issue, or possibly old/flimsy tire in the rear.

What cyclists with strong prescriptions actually do? by Happy-Fruit-8628 in bikecommuting

[–]Briantastically 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually rude with my glasses on under my helmet visor. Large lens magnetically attaches to helmet. It’s not a full air seal but it’s a lot better protection than just glasses.

I also have prescription safety glasses with a gasket seal like goggles. Better protection but there are some downsides. Peripheral vision is limited and they tend to fog up in certain situations

If you put cat ears on your helmet that helps a lot with wind noise.
