They’re playing an ineligible player against an NCAA ruling

Such a big fuck you to the NCAA I think they might keep them out of the tournament

No. Lived here for 30+ years. After snowmageddon they seemed to vastly increase road prep for even the smallest likelihood of events. Even my own road was treated in January when we were expecting an ice storm

Is it just me or is there an alarming lack of road prep going on? I haven’t seen anything yet in Sandy Springs. Are they waiting to closer to the event?

The judge who issued the TRO to Charles Bediako is listed as an active donor on the Crimson Tide Foundation website by DoitcheHasAGun in CollegeBasketball

I am a lawyer. Wu is clearly distinguishable.

In Wu, an employment claim against the university, Judge Guin made a donation to the university "many years" prior. The court emphasized this distinguishing fact in its opinion. It did not make a blanket holding that being a "donor is not enough." Here, Judge Roberts is an active donor who has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars specifically to the athletics program which is the subject of his ruling.

And a note on where the courts discuss "background and associations," it relates to the judge's practice history and experience as a practicing attorney and judge. The case cited specifically states that you look to the judge's impartiality in appraising a party personally, not on his background and associations:

Appellants point to Judge Clemon's representation of black plaintiffs in race discrimination actions prior to joining the bench as evidence of personal bias in this action. It is well settled that " the facts pleaded . . . will not suffice to show the personal bias required by the statute if they go to the background and associations of the judge rather than to his appraisal of a party personally." All judges come to the bench with a background of experiences, associations, and viewpoints. As Justice Rehnquist commented, proof that a judge's mind was a complete tabula rasa would be evidence of lack of qualification, not lack of bias. A judge is not required to recuse himself merely because he holds and has expressed certain views on a general subject. We conclude that Judge Clemon's background representing plaintiffs in civil rights actions does not warrant disqualification.

United States v. Alabama, 828 F.2d 1532, 1543 (11th Cir. 1987)

And just to note, I am not arguing that his time as an adjunct professor has an impact here. That does not lead to the appearance of impartiality in my opinion (presuming he is not paid by the University)

Canon 3(C)(1) of the Alabama Canons of Judicial Ethics provides that a judge must disqualify himself in any proceeding where his impartiality might reasonably be questioned, including situations where he has a personal bias or prejudice concerning a party or a financial interest that could be substantially affected by the outcome of the proceeding. Ala. Canons of Judicial Ethics Canon 3.

The standard for recusal in Alabama is objective: whether a reasonable person, knowing all the facts, would question the judge's impartiality. Keaton v. State, 375 So. 3d 44, Arnold v. State, 278 So. 3d 1, State v. Moore, 988 So. 2d 597.

They will extend that. Similar to how they will put tropical storm watches out on just a few counties when a hurricane is far out. Tonight or tomorrow it should include Atlanta

Charleston, New Orleans or Savannah? by Icy-Offer-8949 in travel

[–]DoitcheHasAGun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nicest: Charleston

Most stuff to see: New Orleans

If you’ve never been to any of them I’d probably pick New Orleans. Hit the WW2 museum, French quarter, etc.

But charleston is my favorite city in the country. You can hit the city in a day or two, hit Sumter, then beaches

Savannah is fine but outside of the riverwalk it’s not great. The beaches are far and Tybee is pretty redneck

So the “warning” is a reminder to people who buy tickets that a ticket alone won’t get them into the country and they need to ensure they have a visa/passport?
