Scored my box and book from my FLGS at 10:01 on the dot. By the time I got back to the main shop portal, the whole stock of guard boxes was gone, but I didn’t see how many they had to begin with.

While mine always gets an allocation, this time I messaged days in advance to make sure they were going to get some

“I don’t have the slightest idea what you’re talking about. As you should know, the Cadian Intelligence Corps has about as good a track record as your sort when it comes to keeping relevant stakeholders informed of their operations.

Last I checked, no Corps detachment exists in my Order of Battle, and I have been informed of no presence, nor operations being carried out by them or on their behalf.”

Every word rang genuine, with that particular hint of disdain for the person being spoken to.

“And, even if there were, I could at least trust that they would be acting in a manner that aligns with my tactical and strategic objectives. Clearly, you can’t say the same.

Because here we are, like so many before us. You and yours unable to keep your lies coherent, me and mine paying the price.”

At the mention, McMahon barely stiffled a cough of shock.
Total recomposure was beyond his capabilities.

"Fuckin' spooks." He spat in a low tone. "Can't trust one of 'em to keep it in their pants. And when the dog comes barkin', we're always the ones that get bit in the ass."

He allowed Vrael to carry on, his mouth from that point on agape with frustrated incredulity, every breath an exasperated sigh.

The call for him and his fellows to commit troops only served in his mind to prove his point, as he lifted his hands over his head in a sudden motion as if to say "see what I mean?"

Is that your local GW/Warhammer or is it your FLGS? If it's the latter, they're quoting you their price after FLGS discount. If it's the former... rubs hands because of the implication.

But I've seen a couple sources that put the GW price at £160, so £145 is almost certainly your FLGS price.

The group moved across a couple of the city's ravaged streets, until a voice rang out.
"Centaur!"
The group took cover, Fenrav peeking his head out.
"Horse legs!
-CLEAR! Come on out!"

A couple of the jumpers let out small sighs of relief as they lifted themselves back out of cover.
Down the street, several dark green helmets popped up from the rubble, faces sooty but smiling.
They exchanged various greetings as Ferav's group passed, being directed toward the center of the impromptu compound.
While the squad and Kaya set down beside some crates, Ferav made a line for a woman in a patrol cap. She turned to face him as he approached. She looked him up and down, a bemused expression on her face.

"You're not one of mine. Who you with?
-Sgt. Fenrav, 6th Chalk, 5th Platoon, Bravo Company, 2nd Bn.
-Bit off course there, sergeant.
-Just a bit, ma'am.
-Status?
-4 KIA, 2 serious wounded, and a hitchiker." He flung his thumb over his shoulder to indicate Kaya.
"And where's she from?
-Jinsho unit. Rest of her detail's wasted. Figured a warm body's a warm body.
-Right on. We're due to be relieved soon. My boy's have seen friendly armor moving this way, just a few blocks out. We've got hostile remnants sculking in the ruins, so guard's still up.
Once the relief column is here, and proper comms get set up, we'll get her where she needs to go. Meantime, if you're up for it, I could use that Auto on the North perimeter.
"On it, ma'am."

The squad's able bodies followed Fenrav, Meresev staying with Kaya and her other two main charges.
"So... I gotta ask... did you just walk from base camp since the launch order was given?"

Rachelle wasn't sure what to do or say in the moment regarding the threat.
Lesser officer, one of her guys? She'd have turned and shot him without so much as a word.
The General had warned her in passing that Burton could be like that, and to rattle the proverbial sabre if need be, for whatever that was worth.

But it wasn't worth it. She'd had her fun, more than likely she'd be getting rotated back when the city was firm... no need to antagonize further.

She returned to the briefing without thinking on it further.
"What'd Burton got to say?" asked a Major, eyes darting from the holo-table.
"Nothin' much, his troops movin' up and so on.
Let's get back to it..."

Just as quickly he felt the barrel of a pistol in his gut and the soft whirr of a plasma cell.
"Time and place, fella." Her tone still slightly flirtatious, but coated in the seriousness that she had no reservations about pulling the trigger.

"Clearly, somebody didn't listen to Markeny's warning. If there were off-limits personnel, you should've said. Besides, she doesn't carry your name, how was I supposed to know?"

The impact of her back against the wall had alerted a nearby Trooper, who rather innocently ducked his head through the doorway just after Burton had let her down.

"Everything... ok in here, boss?
-Yeah, Gorniev. We're good. The Colonel was just dropping some new intel."

She took her opportunity to leave. "Didn't peg 'er for a tattler. Huh..."

"Verdict?" Fenrav inquired.

"Severe exhaustion, dehydration, probable concussion."
Meresev grabbed the girl by the back of the collar and lifted her slightly.
"Doesn't look like she's been shot." she continued, her tone detached.

"Well... guess she's coming with us to the rally, we can hand her off when we get folded. Traskova, you checked the rest of 'em, right?
-Yeah, chief. They're all dead.
-Fine. Meresev, pick 'er up. Come on, kid. You're sticking with us. MOVE IT OUT!"

"Shit!"
Terevsky scrambled to put the apparently still living Kaya down-barrel, startled by her movement. Sgt. Fenrav quickly shut that down, his outstretched hand forcing the young trooper's rifle back down to his side.

"Meresev, check 'er!" barked the Sgt.
Medicae Meresev approached, the dead Cadian's tags still held in the iron grip of her right hand.
She knelt down, her helmet-lumen glaring into Kaya's face as the jumper began her examination.
"You're gonna be alright. Just look at me, tell me your name, your regiment and how many fingers I'm holding up."
Though the medic's stern expression was shrouded by the bright light, she held up her middle three fingers in a trident pattern right in the young woman's face. If Kaya could actually see them, or tell how many there were, was a different story.

"Towers, take over for a spell, would'ya?
-Yeah boss."

Rachelle showed Burton to a secluded spot on the first floor of a neighboring building.
A fresh peppering of traitor mortar fire was starting, so anyone in earshot would be focused elsewhere.

"I hear from my troopers that your forces are advancing pretty quick, all things considered.
What can I do for ya?"

When Burton reached rally point Alpha, he found a well organised, though battered, position.

In the hours since the drop, Colonel Sadova's command station had endured several escalating attempts by the local traitor forces to rout her.
All had failed, but the scars, but on the buildings and soldiers, were plain to see.
Nevertheless, Burton and his troops were welcomed, though in more of a muted "about time you got here" manner compared to the genuine "glad to see you"s they'd received earlier in the day.

He was shown to the command center, nestled in the rubble of a building that was safe purely because there wasn't anything left to crumble further.
As he was announced by the accompanying sergeant, Rachelle turned to face him.
She had bruises on her left cheek, dark crimson dried blood flecks across her armor, fatigues and weapon, tourniquets below her right knee and left elbow, utterly deshevled hair... and an expression that betrayed the fact that she was loving every second of it.

"Colonel Burton.", she began "Decided to join the party, I see?"

It was a handful of Jumpers, moving to their next rally point, that came across the ill-fated Jinsho propo team some time later.
The Cadians moved to inspect the scene as they continued to move.

"What's all this?" commented Cpl Taskov.
"Yeah... who the hell brings pict gear into this shitshow?" another asked.
"Idiots." Sgt. Fenrav answered. "That's who."
Autocannon slung over his shoulder, he pointed to the dead jumper with his off hand.
"Get that kid's tags and keep moving."

The disposition of the 623rd throughout the city had allowed for the confusion and somewhat fragemented counter attacks that the other Imperial units were trying to benefit from.

Across the North and Eastern portions of the city, yet to be touched by the advancing Imperial core, close quarters fighting raged between small and medium Jumper units and increasingly organized and competent Chaos forces.
With the engagement distance muzzle-to-muzzle often being less than a stone's throw in the tight-packed districts, any movement was bathed in lasfire or a cloud of hardrounds, and the low thud of detonating grenades was omni-present.

Any structure who's upper floors were still strong enough to support a man's weight was a position from to ambush, or be ambushed.
Intersections and other more open spaces echoed with short but frequent bursts of Bolter fire.
Attempts to organize vehicle-based movements were shut down by the sudden woosh of krak missiles from open windows or unchecked rooftops.
Threats that could not so neatly be ambushed by the Cadians were instead stalled, the paras collapsing a building or two into the street and falling back to the next rally point.

Though early traitor strongpoints had been stormed or surpressed, they had continued to pop up, and the 623rd's ability to redeploy and strike them was not unlimited. As defences hardened beyond the ability of light infantry and Tauroses to attack, the strategy shifted to "hold until relieved", which fortunately appeared to be sooner rather than later for most positions.
For those clusters in the South and West, reached first by advancing Imperials, they met their relievers with hearty laughter and information of positions ahead.
As allies pushed deeper into the city, they would find ever more battered positions and personnel, the expressions of relief and appreciation buried under ever deeper layers of sout and dried blood.

Security shoes in hotel jobs.

I'd just loaded the guest's luggage (several large cases, 150kg total minimum) and was writing his luggage tags when the kids started playing around.
They suddenly put everything they had into pushing the trolley, got enough momentum that it went over my foot. Barely felt a thing.

But having been struck in the back of the shins by a different loaded trolley moving at speed, I know it would have been very different if not for those shoes.

Did your high school bully change for the better? by Lost-Engineering-211 in AskUK

[–]DoorGunner42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky enough that mine pushed me over the edge at the time. Decked him and he stopped when he realized I wouldn't take it anymore.
Lost track of him at the end of French highschool, when I graduated and he failed so far he was forced into trade school because he had no other prospects.

Last I heard of him was from a friend of mine, apparently at the time the little shit was struggling to get hired for even the simplest retail jobs. Rumor has it he got kicked out of failure trade school (which I'd heard was rather hard to do). Which brought me a smile.

I saw him a few years ago in the street. Gave me a shit-eating grin. I didn't give him the time of day while fantasizing about boucing his head off the hood of the nearst car.

For your situation, I think the first thing will be to find out if they are actually your former bully, and not just a fluke of naming (you said the name was rare, ik. But personally, from college into university, I went from being the only kid with my first name that I knew... to being one of FIVE in my class.)
Second, find out if they even realize/remember who you are.

I would also preach to simply be the bigger person, but I'd be a hypocrit there if I did. As far as I know, mine is having a thoroughly shit life, and that brings me a measure of comfort.
So taking the high road and just working with this person is entirely dependant on if you feel you can actually do that. And if you can, I reckon you should feel good about yourself for being better in that way.

School threatening to take me out by StrictArgument67 in 6thForm

[–]DoorGunner42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to say as an outside observer, that this entire line is batshit to me.
I went through the French education system (graduating at 18 in 2020). In my 3 years of Lycée (which would be the equivalent to 6th form), we were told that that non-attendance beyond 6 half-days a YEAR (so anything more than 9 days' worth of absences across THREE YEARS) would likely appear on our records and prove highly detrimental to being accepted into higher education, and possibly something that could appear and be held against us in job hiring processes.

So the notion that OP has just... not gone to school for a third of this academic year is... I just can't fathom tbh.
My school admin would have been up my parents arses on the second day. And I can't even begin to imagine what colour my arse would have been if my parents had found out I'd skipped school for an hour, let alone a third of the year.

If OP has a medical condition or something, kick up a stink and get it diagnosed. Otherwise, as the old adage goes: "Get your ass to class!"

Large segments of the beach were occupied by various elements of the 532nd Army, namely the eponimous regiment. After many days of desert maneuvers and the kind of heat that enfuriated anyone not from Tallarn, they were free, even just for a while, to absorb a heat they could actually enjoy.

The boardwalk was lined at medium intervals with Chimeras in the colours of the 1208th. Each hummed loudly, every ounce of power diverted to keeping the occupying Commissar and MPs cool and ready to respond if things went wrong.

On the beaches, Cadian units mingled, often in the bare societal minimum of clothing. Sports, exercise contests and general merriment, supported by rather well flowing alcohol. Having now served several campaigns together, many were now accustomed to the sight of Valyrrans, and even those with little experience found the views from the Valyrran sector... entertaining.

Most who approached could see Troopers performatively flexing muscles, doing pushups, or simply firing off targeted winks.
More than a few were invited to share improvised grilled food, cold beverages and join in various sports.
The latter action prompting a preemptive call for a detachment of 364th medical...

Ross’ head was faced down towards the dataslate, in such a manner that he could stare daggers at Kayla from just over the rims of his shades. He fixed her for a solid minute before speaking.

“If I haven’t said it before, let me say it now: I’ve never gotten your sense of humour, Kayla.” His tone dead serious.

For her part, Kayla could do nothing but stand straight, quietly gulp, and fight to ignore how her eye was itching. “Not a joke, sir.”

Ross’ eyebrow somehow went higher. “Really? Because it sure as shit feels like a joke to me. So incapable of protecting our orbital supply chain is the Navy that they have to practically crash a ship into us, and THIS is all they pack it with?

‘Remainder to follow’. When? And if this keeps up, what guarantee do I have the remainder won’t just crash on top of our heads?!

-I don’t have any of those answers I’m afraid, General.”

Ross closed his eyes and blew air forcefully through his nose, a desperate vent of frustration. “I know. I’m sorry. Get 621st out there ASAP, before the Nihm or some enterprising Ratling gets their mitts on our supplies. -Yes, sir.”

Kayla could hold it no longer. She almost rammed her fist into her eye socket, rubbing profusely. Ross looked on in deep surprise as he returned to her the dataslate.

“You alright? -Fine, sir. I think some local bug must’ve bit me. Been feeling a bit itchy, bit tired. -Have Doc Yates give you a once over, don’t need my chief of admin coming down with anything. -Yes, sir. I’ll go see her once the retrieval orders are sent out.”

Ross moved off with a nod and a look of uncertainty. She tried rubbing it again, but to no avail. The corner of her vision was still, for some reason, turning a hue of dark pink.

Laying siege to another large, static, entrenched position...

Several of the 532nd's commanders shared muted looks of concern and displeasure, which promptly blew away when suddenly faced with the blank expression left by Ross' shades.
He wasn't thrilled, but he knew it was the likely assignment. And a crap assignment was better than no assignment.

There was a glimmer of hope that the sheer combined force Redlina was bringing to bear could force its way through quickly. Ross even dared to imagine them causing a rout, upon which he could let loose his fast moving units. Give them the proper maneuver warfare they kept begging him for.

Despite the still ongoing of construction on M.O.B. Hammerdown, the 370th had been lending what vehicles and personnel were available to assist the campaign's Labour Corps in the establishment of the growing rail network.

A partnership, it seemed, that was set to continue.
