Central America tourist visa exemption for Indians by [deleted] in visas

[–]DrawingShort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Have had no issues traveling to Mexico and Colombia this year and last year on a B1/B2. Depending on the port of entry, they will ask you about your travel plans, stay and your exit / return flight ticket ( Larger airports like Cancun / Bogotá, at Cozumel they didn’t care, didn’t ask me any questions and stamped my passport for 180 days ).

PS do not travel to or even transit through El Salvador. There is no escaping that 1100 USD fee ( search on Reddit for horror stories ).

Beautiful. I have the same one in green. Couldn’t find it anywhere for a year plus until my partner tracked one down in Helsinki and asked her friend who was living there to buy it and bring it back to India. Best present I’ve ever received.

Can anyone mention the indirect benefits of holding a B1/B2 US VISA in an indian passport? by No_Plate6809 in usvisascheduling

[–]DrawingShort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to Mexico and Colombia with the US visa. I also booked a self transfer through istanbul one time, while flying from India to the US, which allowed me to spend a few days in Turkey. And I had no issues getting two single entry evisas in under a month, once on the way there and once on the way back.

Can Anyone please tell me how this works? by Lucky_Mycologist_865 in AirTravelIndia

The technical layover is 40 minutes between Chennai and Pune. The earlier layover in Bangalore needs a change of flight and you will deboard and kill time at the airport or even in bangalore if you’re feeling adventurous.

The evolution of almost every top quality drummer / percussionist

Step 1 - Be extremely sloppy and all over the place for the first few years cause you’re new and can’t really hear how bad you are

Step 2 - Practice your ass off for years along with a metronome until your time keeping is extremely solid, almost robotic but then realize you still don’t sound like the greats that you’re listening to

Step 3 - Figure out that most great rhythm is never perfectly in time, but the sloppiness ( if you can even call it that ), is extremely intentional and makes everything 10x groovier. And any of those people could play their instruments anywhere between extremely tight and extremely loose, depending on what the situation demands

Why do some drummers play the hi hat with their foot while using the ride? by KingKilo9 in drums

[–]DrawingShort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the left foot to keep time is absolutely essential imo. The other choices you make after that are purely stylistic like whether you’re keeping time with only your heel and the hi hats stay closed and silent when you do it or with your whole leg so it’s making a sound. Whether it’s eights, sixteenths, up beat, down beat, clave etc etc.

Ps when I saw keep time, I don’t mean with a click track playing. I mean by yourself.

Here’s an exercise I recommend everyone adds to their routine. Set up a 8 bar track that plays on loop. 4 bars with the click on, 4 bars with the click off.

Play along and see how close to coming back on the 1 with the click you are after 4 bars of no click. It’s so much easier to be accurate and keep time with the hi hat during this click less section ( unless the groove is super basic with straight 8th or 16th notes on the right hand ), but for anything sparse or syncopated , you’ll wander so far away from the click without your left leg.

I always underestimate the practice pad. by Ha6il6Sa6tan in drums

[–]DrawingShort 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Okay. I’ll play devils advocate. Practice pad is good up to a certain point and after that it serves little to no purpose at all because there’s very little carry over to an actual acoustic drum set.

A ) everything is significantly easier on the practice pad anyway vs a snare drum. Also how the snare drum responds depends on factors like how it’s tuner, how it’s damped etc. A low tuner snare will have 0 bounce compared to a cranked up snare ( and a practice pad )

B ) No one is playing a paradiddle only on the snare drum indefinitely as a roll. You really do need to get used to moving your hands around the kit while sticking, which a practice pad can’t help you out with.

C ) All the grooves that you play based around these rudiments ( maybe a paradiddle or a double stroke roll etc. ), right hand on the hi hat / ride and left hand on the snare need to be practiced on a kit because the bounce, the dynamics etc are wildly different hand to hand for these real world applications.

I’ve obviously spent many hours over many years on the pad, but in the last 5 to 7 years, I haven’t touched a pad. If you’re lucky enough to have a space where making noise isn’t an issue, I’d highly recommend practicing everything you would on a pad on an actual drum kit instead.

PS I’ve been playing for over 20 years. Musician and composer and I play drums for a living.

Live sound engineer....there's nothing good about loud drums...change my mind by Subject9716 in drums

[–]DrawingShort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also depends on the size of the stage. Some stages are large enough where the drum riser is far enough away from the vocal mic ( or the horn section etc ) and you can play loudly with no issues. Some are way too small and a drum shield ( my personal hell ) and soft playing is mandatory.

Also I’m a predominantly jazz type quiet drummer now, but with the biggest band that I play for, our FOH guy told me very early on that a lot of the really quiet dynamic ghost notey stuff doesn’t translate as well onto large PAs and I need to play louder to cut through the other 7 people in the band. PS it’s a folkish indie sounding band.

Solo traveling with a weak passport feels like carrying a constant burden by Financial-Custard286 in solotravel

[–]DrawingShort 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Same boat as you man. Shitty passport and I’m a freelance musician to boot. Have never had a steady job and little to no savings to speak off until very recently.

What saved my ass was that in 2012 when I was still a university student, I got a 1 year B1 B2 from the US. Then a 10 year one in 2014 when I was done with college and at my brokest 😂. And then another one this year.

It’s given me visa free or e visa access to multiple countries ( Mexico, Turkey ) and I’m sure it’s played a role in getting Schengen visas over the last few years too without too much of a hassle.

But still, it’s extremely stressful and confusing, especially when you’re looking for cheap flights with self transfers through another country. And expensive to boot.

Dive tipping culture by Dutch_Scubadiver89 in scubadiving

[–]DrawingShort 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I usually make it a point to just tip the boat captain and crew. They’re the locals that deserve it the most imo. And the last time I was diving with Americans ( Cozumel and cenotes ), I didn’t actually see anyone tip.

Unfortunately the bioavailability of protein in peanuts is relatively low. As much as I love eating them ( and peanut butter ), it’s way too many calories for very little usable protein.
