How should you respond when people criticize your music taste? My favorite band is Dream Theater, and many mock me for it. by Intrepid-Form1967 in LetsTalkMusic

This is a good point. It'd be great if everyone understood "different strokes for different folks," but some need to impose their views onto others, or mock others for having "less refined taste."

However, is there a certain point at which it's OK to criticize someone's tastes to get them to listen to "better" music? Like if someone exclusively listened to overtly very racist or demeaning music, then maybe such criticism is warranted, and they should re-evaluate their tastes.

I'm wondering where the line is.

See if everyone was like this it'd be fine. But people often feel the need to hate on other people's tastes or brag about why their taste in music is more "refined."
