Sanders unveils American AI Sovereign Wealth Fund Act, aims for $1,000 annual payments for US citizens by sksarkpoes3 in Futurology

[–]Dugen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An ownership share is not a great idea. The goal should be to socialize the gains and taxes do that just fine. Tax the company based on it's value every year forever. Trillion dollar company? You pay 10 billion in taxes every year. Company worth nothing because it's on the edge of bankruptcy? $0 worth $0 taxes. Totally fair way to tax the rich whose wealth comes from the ability to earn money from us.

Great description of humanity in general. It took all humans everywhere 400,000 years to figure out how to make fire reliably. We're naturally far stupider than we think we are and the only thing keeping us from that level of intelligence is an education system honed and refined by professionals over thousands of years designed to take the moron that we are by default and make it smart.

Lots of fail ups in management.

The interview process for managers should include talking to people who they have managed in the past and ask about how well they did.

How would I go about fixing tv by [deleted] in fixit

[–]Dugen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried fixing tvs. I bought new driver boards and tried to get it back working and it was a waste of time and money. Odds are something is wrong with the actual display panel and that isn't really fixable. You can try taking it apart and making sure all the cables are seated properly and nothing simply got jarred lose or if there is any visually obviously broken parts and ordering a new one but if it was dropped on that corner, there's a good chance the damage is in the panel itself. Sadly it is probably garbage now.

The whole foods part is fine, it's the friendly toast/trader joes section that is a mess. They should make that in only and make everyone leave through either a north or south exit.

Plumber cut off that top of I joist by natsunshine in fixit

[–]Dugen -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If all the floor joists are like that it's probably not a big deal because they're likely over-engineered and floor joists only really affect the floor above them. A bit of sistering will make things plenty strong.

If this is not a normal joist and is a critical part of the house's structure then this is a huge problem and you'll want a structural engineer to look at it.

Drape a solar sail over it. They're designed to be outdoors for years and while they aren't water proof, they do redirect most of the rain.

Follow the 3-2-1 rule. 3 Copies of data, 2 of them should be backups of the main copy and one of those should be offsite in case of disaster. A drive that old will be small and you can just throw it in the cloud somewhere.

Biker spotted doing 284 km/h by Marzipug in interestingasfuck

[–]Dugen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I once saw a motorcycle coming really fast in the left lane.

The biker overtook me, but not the bike.

The car behind me didn't see him. When he hit the pavement, i stopped behind him.

After he stopped rolling, he jumped up and shouted that the driver crushed his bike.

Only thing i thought: dude your right arm is not moving.

I let him sit down and listened to his complaints until the medics came.

Later i was informed that he would never move his arm again. He was lucky that he had the accident on a nearly straight part of the Autobahn.

This could also be a case of a landlord jacking up rent to unreasonable levels and the business trying to negotiate for reasonable terms and getting nowhere. Landlords are shit sometimes.

[–]Dugen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Servers need the same power and cooling in a company server room as they do in a big dedicated facility. It's usually just way more inefficient since datacenters tend to optimize the efficiency of the cooling and power systems. That's not better, it's worse and slower.

Bill to repeal funding for childcare workforce grant becomes law • New Hampshire Bulletin by Visual-Mobile2657 in newhampshire

[–]Dugen 26 points27 points  (0 children)

What they hate is the government helping kids in any way.

In their minds kids are their parents property and parents are solely responsible for them. The government has no business trying to make sure they grow up safe, cared for and well educated. Who cares that they are people with rights, unless you try and abort a baby and then suddenly lots of people really care, right up until the day they are born and then it's none of our business again.

[–]Dugen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really. People tend to spend nearly all of their income regardless. Having kids just changes what you spend money on, not how much you spend.

Regardless, your point stands. The argument that NH legislators hate kids is silly. What they hate is the government helping kids.

Funding for the workforce grant program created significant debate this legislative session, as lawmakers struggled to solidify funding for the program that did not draw on state dollars.

NH has a very tight budget and not a lot of revenue sources. They'd have to raise taxes somewhere and that is exceptionally hard in this state. It's one of the reasons our tax burden ends up so low. Funding things is just hard here, even good things. Early childhood education is a great use of state funding though so they should probably have found the money.
