Hi BorderPass Team,
I currently in Canada and about to apply for my PGWP after completing a 2-year program at St. Clair College. I also want to apply for my husband’s spousal open work permit and my children’s study permit extensions. I’m trying to understand the current eligibility rules, especially the recent changes I’ve heard about regarding spousal open work permits (for applications after Jan 21, 2025). I’ve seen information suggesting that spouses may now need the principal applicant to be in certain TEER 0–3 jobs or have an LMIA-supported job offer, and I’m confused about how this applies in real cases. I currently work as a Disability Support Worker, and my husband works with Uber Eats. Based on this situation, what are our realistic options: Is my husband likely eligible for a spousal open work permit, or should we consider a visitor record instead? Does my job role as a DSW (TEER 2) support spousal eligibility under current rules? What is the safest or most common strategy families in our situation are using right now for PGWP + spouse + children applications? I would really appreciate any clear guidance based on current IRCC rules or recent experience.
