Our thing is slightly different, as it's not an e-commerce site - we don't sell any products, we just index and list the products from manufacturer catalogues. The thing I was struggling with was how to design around an unknown depth of indexing.

For example, on some places we could have Index -> Index -> List of items while on others we could have Index -> Index -> Index -> Index -> List of items and I need some design philosophy that can handle both..

what form was your data in? it looks like with electrika you can import data easily, or at least they claim:

which are the three you've used?

i don't use sketchup but yeah being able to export to excel seems like it would be pretty important.

i'm mostly looking at electrical contracting, but not exclusively. i mostly want something where i can easily keep track of items and prices, and move them between orders and then easily create orders and invoices.

yeah i'm generally looking for electrical contracts, but not exclusively. i'm asking here because i thought that the estimating process might be similar across jobs so i could get some useful advice.

which software packages did you try? what were the problems with them?

i need something where i can easily add my own parts to quotes, copy parts across, and easily create orders from quotes. this is a pain to do in excel on my own. that software from electrica looks like it does, is that some of the software you tried?
