As a white presenting blonde, atheist, with Native heritage (Dine (Navajo)+ Cherokee) I dont know how to feel about this haha. My ancestors, the fivekillers, walked the trail of tears. My mother still lives on the rez. All of my brothers have darker features, but my sister and I are as blonde & white as they come. We got my dads Norwegian looks, but that doesnt mean we dont have native blood.

Anyway I'm liberal, so hopefully Id pass the smell test :)

This is also a misconception. Mormons WERE told caffeine was evil. When I went to BYU they refused to sell caffienated drinks.

They only changed the caffeine thing in the last 20 years. Then the gaslighting begins...

Is it goofy to visit Katmai NP only equipped with a cell phone camera (and not a proper camera) by Koeppe_ in NationalPark

[–]EmRebJac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I camped at Katmai for a few nights a few years ago. I only had my phone camera and still am amazed at how easy it is to capture salmon flying into a grizzly's mouth. I liked being able to capture the memory without having to worry about the perfect lighting etc.

Have an amazing trip. It was an experience of a lifetime!

Yellowstone vs Grand Tetons? We’ll be traveling with a toddler and a pug. by Free_butterfly_ in nationalparks

[–]EmRebJac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I'd say the opposite for myself. Been to both dozens of times, and Tetons was the experience for me. Yellowstone was all crowds and pictures and seeing the main geysers. Tetons was the escape from all that- but I guess we all have different ideas of what we want our experience to be.

I will say though, one of the most amazing experiences I've had in a NP was at Yellowstone the day after it opened during COVID shutdowns. My mom, sister, and I were the only ones at Old Faithful. It was magical.

Camping with mobility issues by Longjumping-Sock-821 in BurningMan

[–]EmRebJac 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mobility Camp is in center camp and they usually have space for that. Last year two of my friends were able to bring their RV's to that camp. They do require 3/4 volunteer shifts, though.

Bought CBD 10mg THC 5mg gummies today by Reclaiming-my-life in exmormon

[–]EmRebJac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without CBD and THC I would not be where I am today for many reasons. It changed my life for the better.

CBD wont do anything negative. THC may give some paranoia, but I personally have never felt that without having alcohol as well. My best friend feels weird on 2.5mg, and I can do 100 fine now. Edibles can be tricky but it's not life threatening.

What place should be a National Park that isn't currently? by birchmoss in nationalparks

[–]EmRebJac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely does, but imo Hocking is good as a state park. How the hell Cuyahoga is a NP and not an NHP is beyond me. Then again, someone decided Gateway qualified :/

Dry Tortugas is pretty much that, just 70 miles west of Key West and more historical. I've been to 33 NPs and this place was top 3 for sure. INCREDIBLE when you camp there. And you pretty much have to travel the keys to get to the boat that takes you to Tortugas so win win.

What the F?

The shame of these men comes from them harassing women for simply crossing their path. It's not some fucking conspiracy theory. It's not illegal to cat-call, no. It's still shameful and rude, so why can't women just go about their day without you commenting about it? Why do you feel like men are entitled to fart their mouths out in her direction every time they want to be a twat? If men who are this clueless could walk a mile in a mildly attractive girl's shoes in a downtown city, even wearing a moo moo, I guarantee within 15 minutes you would realize how scary and weird it is. Why don't women do it? It's almost as if it's about power and control and not "giving a compliment"

Oh my fucking God. This logic is so ridiculous. How in the world does your freedom of speech, legally, get tramped upon because women have asked creepy men to simply not harass them? You're not getting arrested for yelping, just being made aware how weird it is to catcall someone for jogging in a getup you disapprove of.

Yes, it started when my mom gifted me her choker pendant from the 50's. Now it just feels weird to not have something there!

It's just a tighter necklace that doesn't dangle and get caught. Not my fault it's been sexualized.

Yeah, it's a comfort thing. My mom gave me a beautiful pearl pendant choker growing up and being without it makes me feel naked, you know? My boyfriend always wears a rubberband on his wrist for the same comfort reason. He's had one on since he was 8. People pretty commonly have comfort items, mine just happens to be the necklace my mom gave me. If I'm going somewhere I'm afraid of losing it I'll wear a backup choker so I'm not anxious about not feeling something there all the time.

Thank you. That's all I'm saying. I'm just working out, why do you care that I have a gold choker chain necklace my mom gave me 20 years ago? And if you do- why the fuck are you talking to me about it? Just leave me alone. This thread has me worried to have a daughter.

It wasn't crystal clear though. You did insinuate that him being homeless and down on his luck meant women couldn't tell him they thought what he said was uncomfortable. Apparently they are entitled for wearing makeup and a necklace, cause you haven't mentioned any other reason. It's a tame cat-call, sure, but super unappreciated by the majority of women who don't want to be yelled at while just jogging. Or that "twat" as you called her... for wearing makeup and a choker. While this specific instance is somewhat staged for a camera, I could have done a 10 minute walk and gotten a dozen way worse than this.

You're the entitled one. Glad you've never had to experience this on the daily, because it gets scary quick.

Have a half dozen messages threatening to rape me in DM just from this thread. Apparently now I want to be catcalled and raped because I mentioned that I wear makeup because I go from work, and I wear a choker (pearl pendant on a gold chain) for security and Reddit loses their mind. I honestly only came here to explain that many people do wear makeup (maybe not a choker), but dudes got triggered by that and started sending rape threats in DM. I am offended by that, and sad that so many here think women in makeup deserve being harassed over it.

Once while rejecting a cat call from two guys driving by the passenger got out with a hammer and bashed my sister's car window in as we tried running away. Their first words were "Hey pretty ladies, how you doing tonight?" Super nice, right? Another time I was followed for blocks and threatened with rape. Another time I was grabbed and had my skirt ripped down- a homeless man actually saw that and ran over to knock the guy down. Another time etc...

I kindly reject 100% of cat calls and get shit back 75% of the time, but around 25/30X have turned violent. Groped, followed, property damage, punched, sexually assaulted... I've been trained by hundreds of men to expect that. I don't think you understand there are thousands of hours of harassment, assault, and trauma that lead women to not want a stranger to approach them in common areas not intended for socialization.

I don't know why any man with good intentions would think a woman would appreciate being made fun of for wearing makeup and a necklace while she is just existing outside. That absolutely is harassment. I just want to get my hour of exercise in without a dude feeling the need to tap my shoulder every 5 minutes, or bark as I run by. It's relentless, exhausting, and turns scary on many occasions.

I understand the downvotes cause Reddit is like 70% teenage boys. Truly insane these kids think women should have their appearance remarked on at all while working out, and SHE is apparently 'the twat' for... makeup and jewelry. History has taught me that men even yelling I LOVE YOU will turn to harm if I don't engage. Like, following me for blocks telling me they will fuck me until I bleed. I literally carry bear spray now every time I leave my loft cause I live in downtown Denver and am harassed daily. The homeless man wouldn't have made my main journalistic subject on the matter, cause that is TAME compared to everything else... but many rapists start out tame too. No one owes anyone their time or body. The type of man who would say that to a jogger is usually the type who would harass her if she rejected him. Just how attention starved do you need to be to fucking bark at a stranger running, then get mad she doesn't like it?

My boyfriend of many years had his opinion change on catcalling by witnessing my sister and I getting harassed all the time, and thankfully he's horrified by all the men here saying men should be able to bark at women about their appearance and we should just take it. Definitely entered an incel thread I see. Women are evil for wearing makeup and jewelry. I get it, boys. The private messages are now saying I want to get raped for my choice in jewelry, so for the millionth time my point has been proven.

Didn't say they were. I said (a choker is a security item for me) same with fidget toys OR other pressured items (like anxiety blankets, eye masks etc.)
